Special visitor

There's been a rumor going around for most of this week saying that Kyle Kalis will be visiting Michigan this weekend, and it looks like the rumor is true. Commitment watch is definitely a possibility, given that Michigan is the presumed leader, and that this is his second visit in the space of a month.

Enjoy the weekend!

  2. Plus I hear he is bringing ALL his family. Usually grounds for a commitment watch.

  3. What rumor ?, this was never a rumor.

  4. If he commits it will be the start of a major domino effect. His commitment would lead to Diamond committing in the next few weeks and Wormley would want to go join his friends so he would also commit. The Taft duo is visiting soon (yes they are still very interested, the problem with getting Stanford to visit was his AAU schedule) and they will fall in love with the school. Washington will see that spots are filling up, so he will commit early. Stanford will see Peytons interest in Michigan, so he will complete the package an commit. And then there will be a dogfight for the last three spots.

  8. I've also heard the rumour that there are no coaches on campus this weekend.....that they are ALL on vacation. I would like to think that if Kyle is visiting with his mother, somebody would want to be on hand. Visiting with mom is a great sign. Kyle will be a great catch. I only hope that the NCAA looks at tOSU proposed sanctions and laughs their asses of. If they do in fact support the tOSU proposed sanctions it might sway some kids back to tOSU. The good news on Kyle is that I don't think he wants to play for Fickell.

Mark......I love the way you put a class together :)

  11. With a red carpet I'm sure!!! Who says recruiting isn't fun.....other than MSU and tOSU?

I know it'll be a while before we see these guys starting and that we won't be going 10 and 2 this year but our future is looking very bright!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. So you say we won't go 10-2...I belive it's possible. Our offense was 5th in the nation last year, and I know our defense will be at least 50% better. Both starting corners were out with injury, and are back now. Our D-line should be alot tougher against the run with Martin & cambell in the interior ( I kno I said that before lol). Everyones more experienced. There won't be 6 fr starting. The cheaters season should be disasterious. Msu lost half of there D.

There's no reason to think we won't do well, new system or not. There going to play to DR strength. So the offense should still move, hopfully with more passes down field. And the d shouldn't loose us so many games, might even win us a couple.

    10-2 here we come!!

  13. I told ya to watch what happened next!!!!

  14. smokey is the right name for u cause u got to be smoking something to beleve we can win 10 games. Give it 2 years then will be talking 9 to 10 wins.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jarhead,

You have said that twice know. What are you talking about?

    Smokey,
    I am thinking 8 to 9 wins.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Jer89

so your guessing we will loose to notre dame, wisconsin, Nebraska, ohio?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hard to lose to Wisconsin when you don't play them unless it's for the Big Ten Championship. I do think ND,Neb,San Diego St. and OSU will be tough wins. OSU will be playing with a purpose this season.I do think this is a very good chance to win 10 games if the D gets better awhole lot better and the O plays as good as it did last year.I would love to say I was wrong at the end of the year I would have no problem with that.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Lol I meant Iowa. & SDU? are you kiding? If that's a close game it's gonna be a ruff year..there's no way their D is gonna hang with DR! There not stocked like that. Not to mention they lost their whole staff.

I guess we'll see soon...I got it marked as a stomping. Lol

  19. This would be a great pickup, and I agree that Kalis committing would start a domino effect. Or so I hope :)

Jer & Smokey, I'm going to side with Jer that we go 8-4. I see us losing to ND, Northwestern, Iowa, and Nebraska. I see Northwestern as a sleeper, and Persa is a great QB who is a dual threat, and lets not kid ourselves, UofM has never been good at covering the dual threat qb's. Bold prediction, I know, and it obviously depends on how Persa recovers. If we win 9 or 10, it will be an extremely successful season, and most likely shock everyone. I see our defense improving, yes, but I don't see them as being a 10-win defense with that tough of a schedule. I hope I'm wrong!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. SDSU is returning just about the whole team so don't be shocked if it's a close game there QB is pretty good. I watched there bowl game and I do know it was Navy they played but they picked them apart. And how bad was UM suppost to beat UMass last year?Iowa and Ill. maybe touch as while.

    ReplyDelete
  21. My picks have us at 9-3 and my gut has us at 8-4.

I pick us to lose to tOSU, Nebraska and Iowa and think that we'll drop either the Notre Dame game or the MSU game. The Northwestern game scares me too (depends on how Persa is doing)but I think we can pull that one off. I think we pick up a game a season for the next two seasons and then I think the gloves come off and we become the team to beat. I'll take 8-4 and 9-3 for the next two years.

I agree our D will be vastly improved......hard not to be and I agree that Denard will look different in every game. In the games where he was successful last year with his style they will give him alot of freedom. In the games where his style didn't work they'll combine styles.

One question I had about last year and this year. Imagine throwing Denard Robinson and Devin Gardner in the backfield every now and then.........Does Gardner get the snap and go to the air, pitch to Robinson. Once Robinson has the ball does he go to the air or run for 30, 40 or 50. How many play options would that leave us....how would a D-Line set up against that threat.

Back to the above mention prediction......I would very much like to beat MSU this year!!!!

  22. does anybody know where he'll be? I'm sure he's seen a lot of the selling points, just curious. I'm a UM student, so I'll be here lookin for him, letting him know us UM fans have his back!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Also @ GoBlueNorth,

I had the same discussion with some friends a few days ago. Split the backfield, they both can run, they both can throw. Snap it to denard, pass to gardner as he runs to the side line, then pass a bomb. Just an idea, I think the coaches could use the two in a big game, at the end of the season, so Nebraska or OSU wouldn't of had time to prepare.

  24. @ Jer

SDSU was very impressive in the bowl game last year, and Lindley is one of the best QB's under the radar. However, they don't have either of their two beast receivers anymore, but their RB is very good, so hopefully our 4 man front will be able to contain him.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I hope they do that (DG and DR in the backfield at the same time) i had that same thought last year, it would give us such a dynamic offense that would make the defense not be able to key in on DR, making our offense even better than last year? And does anyone know who from our recruits were at the oregon camp besides the players on mgoblog. And how our recruits did on the 7v7 and 1v1

    ReplyDelete
  26. as for 10 wins, its POSSIBLE. Then again 12 wins is POSSIBLE. I think the two games everyone has marked as a loss are Nebraska and OSU. If things go our way, and go against our opponents, we could win all the games. I think Nebraska's Defense is going to be pretty beat up by the time they come to the big house, the B1G is a lot "tougher" than big12. And who knows how OSU will perform, they still have lots of talent, but if we have a great year, we'll have momentum closing the season at home. And thank god we don't play wisky this year, dodged that bullet. I think realisticly, 8 wins is a good year. We have a high power offense (the new style wont hold Drob back like everyone thinks, he's a pretty good passer, and will only get better) and our defense will be vastly improved with Mattison. Realistically, we lose to Neb, NW, OSU, and either Iowa or MSU. I don't think we can lose to ND at home with the hype of the night game, and the throw backs etc. I would like to think MSU is a win, but that game will probably be a shootout since both defenses are the weak links.

    ReplyDelete
  27. My pick is 7 or 8 wins, with a couple close losses.

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's perfectly reasonable to expect a 14-0 season or two next year. Don't know what everyone is all up in arms about.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Robert-

I agree with the 7-8, with a couple of close losses.

Or a couple of close wins, and 9 or 10 win season with the bowl game.

Not many teams have a QB that turn a broken play into a scramble FD, or even TD.

When it's all and and done, I believe DR will look like Vince Young 2.0. Not as big, but faster, and with a better arm.

    Go Blue!

    Lal-

I'd bet on Campus Inn. Zings for lunch. Grab a table and hang out for a while. Post some pics if they turn up!

  30. GBN-

    I've had a similar dream...

    Only the wishbone...

With DR, DG, and a bruising FB/TB hybrid.

    Unstoppable.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I like the idea of having the two QB set, but I have one problem with it. They are both right handed so they would be less effective on the left side rollouts. I think this strategy could be more effective if DG got the medical redshirt so when he was a redshirt senior he could be on the rightside and Shane Morris (lefty) could be on the left.

  32. "Has a surprise school shot to #1 on Washington's list? Are he and Stanford still a package deal?" Does anyone know about this? it was on scouts.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Right now D'Rob is right where Antwan Randle El was in college, by the end if this season (mentored by Borges) he could be where Vince Young was in college (success-wise.) He has to improve his passing accuracy and his deep ball to ever be in Vicks passing league, he's already in Vicks running league. With 2 years of maturing plus mentoring under Borges he very well could be at Vicks college level because they're the same height. As a true freshman Drob was already a pro kick return prospect, in 2 years he could very well be a pro qb prospect, but he isn't one yet. No true sophomore is. I believe Borges will help him get it done, he's already done it so many other times.

  34. From Sam Webb on Scout.com
"I've been talking to Tom (Strobel) every day about how we're gonna be roommates and stuff," said Kalis to Scout.com Ohio analyst Bill Greene late month.

According to sources close to the Lakewood(OH) St. Edward star, while on his unofficial visit to Ann Arbor, the five-star lineman gave the Michigan staff the jolting news moments ago that he will indeed join Strobel in Maize & Blue. This comes just weeks after he officially rescinded his commitment from the Buckeyes.

Kalis would be the first five-star prospect to pledge to the Wolverines this year and is rated the #6 offensive tackle in the country. We will have confirmation from the talented youngster himself in the hours to come.
