Commitment #17 is here in the form of offensive lineman Blake Bars. This shouldn't be a big surprise, just look at the post below this!
Bars is the 4th offensive lineman to commit, leaving probably two spaces left for OL in the class, which are likely to be filled by Kyle Kalis and Jordan Diamond.
Blake is a three star OT. (OMG only 3*'s, wtf hoke??? [sarcasm] ) However, he's got a rating of 79, which means he's awfully close to that fourth star.
Full commitment post to follow later today.
he is a fourstar on rivals and I think he released his highlight tapes late so teams didn't get a good look at him until later in the process.
ReplyDeleteYes, Rivals has him as a four star and his "Rate It" is rated as a 4.58 which gives him five stars. I'm not really sure how much you use this as a judge but he has some pretty decent offers including, Clemson(Clemson had the number 9 ranked recruiting class according to rivals this previous year), Florida, LSU, MSU (the good one, Mississippi State), Penn State and South Carolina. Some quality SEC and Big Ten teams.
ReplyDeleteClemson is in the ACC I know.
ReplyDeletereciever and Dt are the positions now that I'm most worried about Michigan falling short on. Rb i'm not sow worried because coaches seem really high on Rawls and Michigan fans have been pleasantly surprised by freshman backs in the past; but reciever worries me a lot and Dt just because there really seems to be no one right now that isn't a full season away from commiting
ReplyDeleteSo long as we have mamouth linemen, battering ram FB's, and RB's with legs the size of tree trunks I'm not very concerned about a lack of WR's. Teams are going to have to stack 9 in the box to stop our power play leaving our WR's open.
ReplyDeleteNext year will be a great year for WR recruiting. Shane Morris will attract interest in most of the top receivers and they will be able to get early playing time. I see us getting 2-3 of the top receivers in the country next year.
ReplyDeleteBenji:
ReplyDeleteOn an unrelated note, John Turner committed to ND today, giving them three committed safeties this year. It seems unlikely that Jarrod Wilson would become the fourth, no? Would this mean its really down to UM and Penn St.?
Here's my updated "Projected" Class List
ReplyDeleteQB - none (might be wishful thinking)
RB - Dunn
WR/TE - Thompson
OL - Kalis
OL - Diamond
DE - Wormley
DT - Pipkins
DT - O'Brien
FS - Wilson
The frustrating part of this is the Standford/Washington combo wants to be a package and if Wormley commits soon, Hoke & Co may have to say "no" when Washington is ready to pull the trigger, which leaves out Stanford. O'Brien will be Blue, Hoke won't let him get away after the dominating performance he had at UM camp. I would love to see UM get Burbridge, but the academic issues still scares me, as does Thompson, but I think Thompson is closer to committing. Wormley & Kalis will be Blue in only be a matter of days, but I am starting to worry a little about Diamond. I am curious if Wormley and/or Kalis have silently committed, but the coaches don't want them to announce for fear of scaring away Diamond or Washington. Anyway those are my thoughts and this will give us a class of 25, so maybe just maybe there is room for Washington/Stanford after all!!!
I don't know if anyone has noticed this but ESPN.com had added safety Jeremy Clark to the 2012 Michigan recruiting class. Has anyone else noticed this and do they have analysis on this guy?
ReplyDelete@ Justin
ReplyDeleteClark was offered a grey shirt. If Wilson commits, Clark will be a member of the 2013 class. If Wilson does not, he will be a member of the 2012 class.
@Dagger Oh, alright. Thank You
ReplyDeleteOL and DL are the two biggest needs. We have scholarships 4-5 deeps at every position except for OL/DL we only have a 2deep and we may only have a 2 deep for the next 3 seasons unless we have true freshmen starting left and right.
ReplyDeleteSidenote, it's been documented several times the coaches only want 1 more interior lineman this class (much to my consternation.) In the 4-3 over/under the NT and the WDE/SAM are the anchors. NT takes the double team, SAM/WDE are the outside pass rush. So Godin/Wormley could technically be the "interior" linemen surrounding the NT.
Has anyone else read into Pharoah Brown becoming a receiver? He was dominate as a receiver at the 7v7, I think this could prove to be worth-while. He's 6'6 220. Put another 10+ lbs on him, and no defensive back will be able to handle him.
ReplyDeleteHe's listed as a DE but could just as easily play the TE spot if he is as athletic and his hands are as good as they're saying. The coaches will have to weigh that before accepting too many more commitments. If they land, say..Wormley-Washington then he might move to TE, if they land a WR like Stanford then Likely Funchess stays a TE and Brown stays a DE. If they land Washington and Stanford then my head explodes trying to figure out where these kids will all end up playing.
ReplyDeletePharaoh Brown has GREAT potential as a rush DE, and that's where he'll start in college for sure.
ReplyDeleteI think Brown dominating at 7 on 7's showcases his athleticism and that will prove even more valuable coming off the edge (see Pierre Woods or Shawn Crable). If we grab a guy like RThompson he has the same kind of ability. The more I watch Thompson video the more I want this kid. On the DL conversation, I think Ojemudia, Brown and Washington (if we land him) are rush DE's and Wormley and Strobel stay as SDE. Godin will move inside and Pipkins and/or O'Brien will be at NT. The more I look at this class it makes me think that by fall of 2013 our defense will be transitioned to a 3-4 scheme. Versatility is essential in that scheme and that is what we appear to be recruiting. Even our LB's are capable of moving around. I remember when we had Woodley we played a lot of 3-4 to account for his talents. Either way, Mattison knows what he's doing and the more pash rushers the better!
ReplyDeleteCoach Hoke has said in interviews they'll run the 4-3 over/under scheme which takes the best of both 4-3 and 3-4 looks. NT takes the Center/OG double team, 3 techDT and 5 tech DT/E don't have to be as big because they're never double teamed and because the WDE is a bigger rush end type, and the SAM is more of an OLB/DE tweener (ala Woodley/Graham) and lines up on the LOS half the time. Question is who's the SAM? By 2013 we'll have Ash at NT, and Washington as the 3tech, Black and Wilkins as the starting Ends and likely Jake Ryan as the SAM. It's tough to tell how these kids will grow into the positions and when they'll start playing. Ojemudia might play either outside position, I think Wormley will put on more weight than Strobel and start at SDE, but Strobel might also get more rotations than Brown at first in backup because he's already bigger than Roh right now. Brown will be great but he and Brennen Beyer need to put a little more weight on.
