O-Line Updates

Offensive lineman Eric Olson is actually scheduled to visit campus today, so hopefully we'll hear how that goes in the next 24 hours. Olson has offers from Boston College, UConn, Duke, Virginia, Wake Forest and Northwestern, as well as Michigan and he's rumored to be on the verge of deciding. UM is clearly his best offer from a football standpoint, so if the visit goes well, UM could put themselves in the lead here.

Eric Magnuson is meant to be visiting this weekend, June 10th, and a commitment there wouldn't be totally shocking since he named Michigan as his leader about a week or so ago. Magnuson would be a fine addition to the class, as he's one of many extremely talented west coast O-lineman in this class.

Speaking of west coast lineman, despite landing an official visit this fall from Zach Banner, there's a growing view that he's probably going to stay at home and play for the Washington Huskies. I've always thought Michigan had a pretty good shot with him, but with this bit of news, and with Michigan potentially picking up 3-4 OL this summer (out of Olson/Thurston/Magnuson/Diamond), Banner more than likely won't be donning the winged helmet.

  1. What's the talent level of olson?? His offer list is not very impressive, coach Hoke and Funk must see something the other top universities don't see

  2. @ chuck t

I agree with you completely, he is unrated by rivals and a low three star on 247. I feel like we have enough higher rated guys interested in us that the coaches must see something special in him. His size is decent but it isn't amazing, I guess we have to trust the coaches on this one.

  3. Yeah and who knows he may start to get more attention by evaluators later in the season

  4. Alot of these guys arent rated high because they havent or arent able to participate in camps... Like Anthony Standifer he had offers from few colleges but once Michigan stepped to the plate and his film got around he started getting offers from the top schools..When it comes to Olineman I dont get to caught up on * rating because all you need is size and coaching and you can become a beast

  5. Do we have a legitimate chance with Joshua Garnett the other Washington O-Lineman?
He said "distance is definitely never an issue. I like to say that a plane ride is a plane ride whether it's two hours or six hours."
And he said he almost certainly taking an official to Michigan.

  6. Kids like Gant, Olson, and Houma coming out of nowhere. It's exciting, but change frightens me. I already put the top 25 players in the nation in my mock class. What to do, what to do... I really like Houma, btw, I should proly watch Olsons video. I heard Olson tests at a genius level but if he commits to Michigan it'll prove it.

  7. Yeah, I heard Garnett is more likely to end up at UM than Banner is, but neither are that likely in the first place. UM will still land an extremely good OL group though.

  8. The reason Olson is not rated very highly is that he put out from the the start that he was only interest in non west coast high academic universities. That is why his offer list is all academic schools. He and his coach have both stated he has had interest from some high profile programs but that he had no interest in them. Sounds like a smart kid to me.

  9. I want big physical players with smarts! They bring more to the game.

  11. Jordan Simmons is also a name to keep an eye on. He has interest in UM and a former alum as a mentor/coach I believe.

  12. There have been rumblings about Jordan we have to wait and see what he thinks after the visit.

  13. So if Ohio loses television games could that possibly affect (THE GAME) being on tv. I don't know how that works, but im assuming its a dumb question considering they wouldn't punish us.

  14. Benji. Adolphus washington scouts profile says his interest level in Michigan is high. Is there anything to this. And have him and Stanford visited yet

    ReplyDelete
  15. The NCAA hasnt instituted tv bans recently and I don't think that would change with osu. There is a lot of money to be made off of tv rights to games and those folks sure like there money, so I just don't see it happening. Remember that this is still the same NCAA that allowed osu to play in the $ugar bowl.

  16. Washington recently named a top 10 which included Michigan, but he hasn't even visited yet, so I wouldn't read much into his scout profile's interest level.

  17. @ Richard

There is a article on Michigans Rival page about Stanford and Shane Morris connecting as friends and possibly more ( its behind a paywall) so that bodes well for us

  18. According to the MGo Board Pryor is history!

    ReplyDelete
  19. That must mean the NCAA is going to find ALOT of dirt on him.... It was no point in him even trying to come back ...Cant wait till the NCAA hits OSU with LACK OF INSTITUTIONAL CONTROL and they get ounishment similar to USC

    ReplyDelete
  20. ESPN says Tressel had more contact with Pryor mentor then he said he did.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I say our chances of winning this year in the Big House went from about 30% to about 55%

  22. Yeah, Tyrelle Pyror is a douche and he won't make it in the NFL, but he was a good college QB for OSU. Him leaving should definitely help Michigan in The Game.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Pryor was the least of our worries. Personally, I was hoping MI would play him again. Reminds me of that Paulus, if that's how one even spells it, guy as defining overrated. Never improved, probably never will.

Will regard to Olson, Lash hit it on the head:

His offer sheet is not impressive because he has told the football factories housed in sham college campuses: Need not apply!

I LOVE this kid. Potential epic recruit, player, and all around human being.

    Michigan Man. Through and through.

    Go Blue!

  24. Benj,

Agree with the douche, but the NFL depends on him.

I believe he could be a TE, and will be willing to finally gravitate to his his natural position, once the money demands.

    Beats flipping burgers in PA.

  25. Pryor might have a lot of problems getting into the NFL. The supplementary draft might not even occur because of no bargaining agreement. Then what does he do? I suppose he could go to the Canadian League. That would kill his pride. I think he always thought he would be a #1 pick in the NFL. This guy is a real knucklehead.

  26. There's a good read on Sports by Brooks, that may explain TP leaving so abruptly, apparently the NCAA cited tsiO today, because there's a paper trail linking to Pryor to merchandise that was being sold on Ebay by a local memorabilia collector.

  27. Can anyone tell me who the picture is on the front of michigans rivals page? they say two 4* lineman are visiting, today 7th and tomorrow 8th, and i dont know who the picture is .

    ReplyDelete
  28. Logan,

    It's Adam Bisnowaty.

    ReplyDelete
  29. You might want to include Bisnowaty on that list of potential OL's to come to Michigan. Talk about coming out of left field!

    Olson/Bisnowaty/others...?

  30. Dude, the ESPN 150 is on crack this year. I don't even know where to begin. Well, they say that there's hardly any difference between Kalis, Banner, Diamond, and Ben Braden. They're a slight injury away from 3 stars according to ESPN. Jarron Jones is only marginally better than Godin as well. Evan Boehm got some serious love but Pipkins had his way with him several times at combines and is listed as a 78. Barely 3 stars. It's not a head scratcher, it's a joke!

    ReplyDelete
  31. so we only have 2 that made the ESPN 150 but alot of plyers rated 78-80

    ReplyDelete
  32. Overall the rankings are very favorable to Michigan, see above :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. It's just numbers but if you put much weight on them, we do look better than last year on the ESPN 150:

    Class of 2011:
    80 x 1
    79 x 4
    78 x 7
    77 x 4
    76 x 1
    75 x 1
    74 x 2

    Class of 2012:
    81 x 1
    80 x 5
    79 x 3
    78 x 2
    77 x 1
    75 x 1
    45 x 1

I think we're looking pretty good. Benji - any comments on the AJ Williams "45"

    ReplyDelete
  34. Benji, What do you think of all these offensive lineman visiting so close together? Are some of them starting to read/hear about the class filling up so they want to get to see it so they can make a choice if they are under some sort of pressure
