ESPN 150 Chat Notes

The ESPN analysts are doing a live chat right now, here. I've already posted my question about Ondre Pipkins! But there have already been a couple of interesting comments, so I thought I'd jot a few of them down.

- The guys at ESPN think Michigan will be the most improved team in terms of recruiting rankings.

- Zeke Pike does not look like a top flight QB to them. They've watched the film and seen him in person three times, so I guess I'm going to trust them on this one.

- Joe Bolden and Devin Funchess are on the list of players who just missed out on the 150, and there's only about 10-12 guys on that list, so JB and DF are ranked somewhere in the 150-165 range.

- One of the things they are stressing is that camps/combines aren't that important in rating a player, the film much more vital. Can't remember too much about Ondre Pipkins' film, but clearly it wasn't that great!

  1. That has to be why the ratings are so different than the other scouting sites. To me, combines are important for ranking kids head-to-head. Jordan Simmons dominates in film but he's lined up against a 5'10" 200 lb public school kid, but at the combine he's lined up against kids in his size/skill level and still dominates, whereas other kids tear it up in school but then along comes Pipkins...*wrings hands with an evil grin*:o)

  2. The combines don't have pads though, which makes a difference in a game situation.

  4. I know this is off topic but I am watching the Outside the lines report. They are talking to a former friend of Pryor and his face is shaded. You don't need to shade him we all know it Tressel say I got you Pryor.LOL

  6. Just watch Zeks's film, the dood is horrible. doesn't take a espn analyst to figure that out. Unless he wins a national championship. I'm glad he did not come to MI. He'll be the white Terrelle pryor. lol

  7. Let this be a lesson to you: ignore ESPN recruiting. They don't have their act together.

  8. I have a question ... We have 2 kickers at the moment with in coming freshmen Matt Wile coming in that will be 3 ..

What im wondering 1st is if the 2 kickers we already have are on scholarship ?? And once Wile comes in and claims the K spot ( since the other 2 kickers suck anyways)what would be the reason to have possibly 3 scholarship Kickers on the roster ? Do we keep those 2 incumbents or release them and add 2 more scholarships ???

  10. I think only Gibbons is on scholarship so adding Wile will give them 2 scholarship kickers. Still one too many in my opinion.

  11. Seth (un-spellable 2nd Name) is just a walk on, so he'll be on the team no matter what.
As for Gibbons, I'm not sure the coaching staff would just cut him because he's not the starting kicker. What if Wile gets injured and Gibbons is the 2nd best kicker?

  12. I don't think Hoke will cut a player already on scholarship. Michigan is not in the SEC they are better then that. That aside it does not matter if you have 1 or 3 kickers if you can't make a extra point say goodbye. And keep the walk on.
