Pretty slow week for news so far, hopefully that will change on Friday with the Jarrod Wilson announcement. But still, here are a couple quick updates:
- Jarron Jones has officially decommitted from Penn State according to ESPN, but the four star DT did not name Michigan amongst the remaining choices. I guess this makes some sense, UM has few spaces left, and are in a good position for O'Brien and Pipkins (possibly even Aziz Shittu), so it's understandable if other schools might be recruiting him harder.
- Maty Mauk will visit Missouri this week, and given that he plans to decide soon, I think this visit should seal the deal for the Tigers. He's said before that he wants a spread passing attack, and Mizzou can provide that. Michigan is up there for him, but I don't give us much chance here.
Maybe its just me, but I would focus on those players who WANT to come to UM before you focus on players who "don't know". These kids have been in football their whole lives (in most cases) and I don't believe that they don't know where they WANT to play. I feel many of those prospects are riding the wave of popularity and seeing what each school will "offer" them. Michigan is all about "the team" and some of these high * recruits just scream "its all about me"
ReplyDeleteSo on twitter i saw that Dee Hart tore his ACL... and you never like to see a young guy get hurt but id be lying if i didnt say to myself "glad the wolverines dont have him on scholarship"
ReplyDeleteif he was with michigan (or any other school) he wouldn't have torn his ACL...
ReplyDeleteHe tore it during light 7 on 7 practice. That ACL was destined to be torn.
ReplyDeleteFeel bad for the kid nonetheless......long road ahead for him.
ReplyDeleteTo bad he got hurt. I thought he was going to get some serious playing time this year.
ReplyDeleteSince he won't have the playing time this year, I wonder how he'll perform when we play bama in 2012. That'll be fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteWe were talking about Cam Gordon's potential for next year, ESPN must have been spying because they posted this video today...

This puts Kalis as a silent commit. Obviously nobody really knows, but it can't be a bad sign.

Thanks for both links, they were both great. Let's hope the thing about Kalis is true.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first post and would like to say how much I enjoy the information and atmosphere of this blog.
ReplyDeleteI do have a question, it was said before that Mauk and Kiel were the only qbs that were offered or would be taken. Is this still the case? Even if no med redshirt is giving to DG?
Abach,
ReplyDeleteWelcome. It's pretty much Kiel or nothing. I think the coaches have complete faith in Bellomy.
We have also offered Devin Fuller, and I believe he is being recruited as a QB. Unless someone completely blows away the coaches or if one of our current scholarship QBs gets surriously injured then it is unlikely that another QB will be offered.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we need to take a QB this year, Gardner will be great, Bellomy could has potential (if he puts some weight on) and Morris looks dominate. That wraps things up for 4-5 years.
ReplyDeleteRegarding Jarron Jones withdrawing his pledge to PSU: I realize that these kids are young and indecisive and that this is a huge decision shaping their lives, but I always think why commit early? Just to decommit a month or two down the line. Take all your visits to wherever you are considering and THEN commit with all the facts and well informed. Takes a little luster off of all our early verbals... hope we can keep them all
ReplyDeleteCheck out this Freep article from Josh Helmholdt of Rivals.
ReplyDeletehttp://bleacherreport.com/tb/ba6yY
He thinks UM will take: 1 DT, 2 WR, 1 FB, 1 TB, 2 OL, and 1 TE with their remaining spots after Wilson or Clark fills the safety spot. This seems to go against what most are saying who think there will be more defensive selections. I don't know how UM could leave all those great defensive prospects out there that seem to have UM in their top group...
Nice article and video on Shane Morris. Hard to belive this kid is going to be jr. this year.

According to Rivals, Kyle Kalis is thinking of heading back up to Michigan with his family this weekend..
ReplyDeleteIf he does make it up, I think he makes it official and commits...
What do u guys think?
Go Blue!
Jake, that prediction from Helmholdt is just wrong, very wrong...
ReplyDeleteTwo WR's is unlikely unless Burbridge gets his academics in order. I think Michigan will take at least one more DE, probably two with Wormley and Washington.
Tight End is still a mystery with Ron Thompson and whatever issue he has; and personally I don't think they need that 3rd TE.
Fullback is still a bit of a mystery too, UM has offered a few guys and received a couple of visitors, but I don't think they lead for anyone right now.
Cal-
ReplyDeleteWhen I posted about DG's RS, I was referring to the medical RS specifically. According to the letter on NCAA law, he played in one game too many.
Very sorry to hear about Dee Hart. It must be devastating for these kids when something like tha happens, and you go from "the man" to an after thought. Reminds me of "Friday Night Lights."
Benji-
If the staff saw Thompson as a TE, they would not even be taking the time to meet with him.
I believe they see him as a WR in the Michael Floyd, Mike Williams category.
I'm surprised most programs don't sacrifice a little speed for more reach at WR, especialy in the Big Ten.
I remember watching the Army AA game that pitted poor Boo Boo($-three something, If I remember correctly) against Floyd (4.55). It was like watching an adult in a JFL game.
I agree about the "two WR comment." I can't imagine why he wrote that...
As for FB, I think they are waiting for a prototypical guy, because they already know they have a solid back up plan- an existing LB or TE moves to FB.
Hey Benji,
ReplyDeleteU were right with Maty Mauk, He Commited to Missouri this morning.
Nelson A is only considering UM bc one of his coaches is garret rivas former UM kicker. Apparently southern schools lead for his service. He is planning a visit to Texas but not to UM. He is from Nigeria and a really raw talent. Expect him to draw his recruiting out as his stock is up. I love the midwest kids we are getting but some south florida speed would also be nice. Im stoked about jarrod wilson. 10 interceptions, 5 of which he took back for touchdowns last year. Ballhawk and playmaker. Have a great week everyone. Back to work, grrrrrrr
