LB Royce Jenkins-Stone just tweeted that he won't be taking any visits now after all. I'm guessing Hoke had a quiet word in his ear! Haven't seen if Terry Richardson has canceled his visits, but I imagine he might end up doing the same if Hoke isn't happy with it.
Every day that passes, I get more proud to be a supporter of UM. With recruits of high integrity and a coaching staff the caliber of Hoke & Co., there's no doubt that Michigan is returning to the ranks of the nation's elite. To RJS and the rest of our recruits, I for one am proud to say you're one of ours. This is what being a Michigan Man is all about. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteApparently he got a word from his high school coach as well. If he were to visit those programs in the south it would be bad news. Thats all they have down there and they spend all of there money on it. The programs down there are not full of integrity and would offer things and show things that a 17 year old kid probably couldnt ignore or turn down.
ReplyDeleteThe news about his coach (michigan alum) giving him the advise not to visit other schools is good news because that means he probably said the same thing to TR
ReplyDeleteTalking likely decision timelines, Wormley looks like the next prospect to choose, no? Most of our prospects have top 5's now, but would Wormley's summer decision come next, or would a DT decision or a Dunn decommitment possibly happen sooner? What should we be looking to happen next?
ReplyDeleteDiamond sounds like he's pushing his date further back, and A. Washington's coach said they don't really have one, and have no visits scheduled. OK just took a 3 star qb (4 on scholie now) so Kiel is down to 3 of his choices remaining, but all is still quiet for him so he may wait to see what the classes he might join shape up to be instead of being one of the earlier commits. Have Bisnowaty or Payton or Garmon put any info out there? ect.
The barbecue should speed things up but aside from Wormley it looks like recruiting momentum is with OBrien and maybe Pipkins to decide sooner than some of the other kids. Which prospects will be attending Hokes BBQ?
ReplyDeleteGood news about RJS, but this visit situation still makes me uneasy. Remember how much TR liked Oregon? I obviously don't know him personally but he seems more interested in the glamour and nike gear he sees at other schools than the tradition of excellence (academic and athletic) we have here at Michigan. Here's hoping I'm wrong. I would hate for him to take this trips and get mixed up in a shady recruiting situation.
ReplyDeleteMichael, I think a Wormley commitment is probably the next bit of news to look out for. Should happen in the next couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason TR seems more like a rebel than RJS does, i just get that impression. Glad to see RJS is smart enough to stay put.
ReplyDeleteOff Topic (as usual for me) but I've been watching a lot of game film lately. What do you all think of Michael Shaw? I don't feel any of our back's got justice last year thanks to Drob's running. But I feel Shaw was impressive. A bit injury prone, but impressive none the less. I feel if he were to add another 15 lbs (I'm sure he's been getting bigger since last season) he'd be 6'1" 205 or so. He's got 4.4 speed, and he has the ability (at least what I've seen) to break tackles like nobody's business. I think if he put on some good solid muscle, (and stayed healthy) he could be a very good back.
ReplyDeleteInteresting Q&A session with A.W.:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.chatsports.com/michigan-wolverines/a/Michigan-football-recruiting-rumors-QA-with-Ace-10-2-310
He answers some questions regarding Wormley's pending commitment, RB/FB status (including Dunn), Washington and Stanford leaning toward the SEC, and Michigan's possible DT pickups, Pipkins and Shittu (more so than O'Brien).
I know many of you hate this guy, but he's giving us what we want when it comes to recruiting info.
Wormley, O'Brien/Pipkins/Washington, Burbridge/Stanford, Dunn, Banner/Garnett/Diamond boy what an option. What would you people pick if you got to choose 6 of the above. And who do you think the attrition will come from (state names if you like) because I don't see more than three people leaving. I say Jordan Paskorz, Terrence Talbott and Kenny Wilkins

ReplyDeletewoops forgot Shittu choose from him as well
ReplyDelete@lalondtm
ReplyDeletethe running back that i like, that was from the team last year, is #33 Stephen Hopkins, 6' 230 or so(depending on amount of weight add since the season)and runs a pretty good 40 at 4.6
i would love to see him and, incoming freshman, Rawls be 1 and 2 on the depth chart.
I agree they have the size, but I just feel that if shaw puts on some weight, he'll have size, moves, and speed. Oh well, we'll see how it goes haha
ReplyDeleteWhy not have earth, wind, and fire
ReplyDeleteEarth-Hopkins
Wind-Denard
Fire-Shaw
@mark
ReplyDeleteif there was a way to like a post, i would like yours
I like the Wisconsin running back situation. Its a great problem to have. If we rotate backs in and out it keeps legs fresh and controls the clock. It clearly works bc both of Wisconsin's main backs have gotten plenty of national attention.
ReplyDeleteok, lets try this again. Who's up and wants to talk Michigan Football
ReplyDeleteMonty mandras (I doubt I spelled that right) was just offered by Michigan. He is another Cincinnati kid and a 4 star on scout, Espn, and 247. And his is 6-2, I would still much rather have Stanford, Peyton, or Burbridge I still like this kid and he could be a good back up plan/ catalyst for stanford or Peyton to speed up the process.
ReplyDeletewhere do you get your information from Mark?
ReplyDeleteim new to this recruiting watch stuff, and i dont seem to find anything before anyone on this site
Mark, you beat me to the madaris offer update. I think Hoke was getting tired of waiting around for stanford to visit.
ReplyDelete@Will
I'm up. Are you gonna ask a new question or should we answer your first question?
@Casmir
ReplyDeleteI don't know if Mark uses the same sites as me, but I mostly use Mgoblog and TomVH twitter.I also use 247sports michigan recruiting thread.
I found about his offer on the mgoblog and then I searched his name on the four major recruiting sites, the other stuff is just an educated opinion.
ReplyDelete@ davon
You snooze you loose :)
Just for shits and gigs check out the bit on michigan and the big ten
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/24156338/30612159
lets start with the old question
ReplyDeleteI would choose these 6:
ReplyDelete1.Pipkins
2.Washington
3.Burbridge
4.Garnett
5.Stanford
6.Shittu
As for attrition, I have no idea. I would say some slot receivers may leave but I couldn't tell you any names.
I was also looking at the top prospects in the official Michigan football preview book. (if anyone has any questions let me know) Michigan for 2011 and 2012. In 2011 we got the #3,4,5,9,11, in the state (something like that) And Michigan State got #1,7,18,24 if I remember correctly. We're killing everybody else in the midwest tho I'll bring up the exact stats later. It also said Vincent Smith will probably do some kick returns for us this year, and Junior Hemingway will be a Punt Returner, I am very excited about. Hemingway is great after the catch and in space and i think will make an excellent return man. Also does this mean we won't see Jeremy Gallon or Drew Dileo in return roles? Where will they be I know Dileo was used on kickoff last year, I would like to see Dileo and Gallon used on screen passes or slants I just dont see how you can waste so much talent with all the receivers we have but I am confident that the coaching staff, already being said that they will adapt the offense to the talent, will find a way to get these guys in. Terrence Robinson was a four-star recruit and has great speed and the size of Desmond Howard I think he could be a great home run threat. Thoughts after you answer my first question?
ReplyDeleteI think Hemingway will do a good job on punt returns. I've also heard that Martavias odoms will get his fair share of return time. Since we are gonna be running more of a west coast offense, Drew dileo and gallon will be key elements in the new offensive scheme. Terence got some playing time in the Uconn game last year, and I'm excited to see how he adapts. I wouldn't say "killing"everybody in the midwest.Notre Dame has a good class going as of now.
ReplyDeleteSorry if I'm taking to long, I'm on mobile so it takes me awhile to respond.
thats a great six. The Dline would be rediculus with Washington, Pipkins, and Shittu. I don't like Stanford's chances of coming to michigan. The state of Michigan and midwest has some WR prospects I haven't heard of and I wonder if/why they have or haven't been offered. I think Burbridge is a good pick-up as well, him and Stanford would be much needed in 2013 when they are redshirt freshmen and our projected upperclassmen are Jeremy Jackson and Jerald Robinson Dileo and Gallon are also there and Miller but he is a tight end now could switch back i guess if they need him tho, but I think we will need two more impact receivers I never thought of taking two until now but I think it is necessary. Garnett is looking good for us right now and so is Banner and I think it'll either be them two or jordan diamond alone probably whoever commits first ya know.
ReplyDeleteMy six would be
Garnett
Wormley
Burbridge
Stanford/Washington (i know those two will probably come together but I think there are two needs and we can only fill one unless we get 26 which I don't think we should because I don't see that much attrition)
Shittu
and O'Brien
and believe it or not we are actually in good shape for DTs it's the DE that we are thin at. In 2013 we will only have Jibreel Black left at that position from the current roster, the rest will be Brennan Beyer {if he stays at that position} then Keith Heitzman. The rest will be Redshirt freshmen from 2012's class {Ojemudia (if he stays at that position), Stroble (if he stays at that position) godin (same thing), Pharaoh Brown (same thing)
yea, hopefully terrence comes around and I do think Odoms will be a good return man, I think he returned some punts/kicks in 2008/2009
ReplyDeleteAnd no problems.
Wormley
ReplyDeleteObrien
Pipkins
Peyton
Diamond
Dunn
What do you think about the Linebacker position this year? I think Demens can hold down the fort as a Mlb.Cam gordon has potential but needs some work. I think Jake Ryan and J.B Fitz will fight for the other LB spot.I wouldn't be surprised if Hoke offers some elite linebackers in the 2013 due to lack of depth and experience.
ReplyDeleteWhy Diamond over Garnett/Banner?
ReplyDeleteI think it will be a carousel this year. We actually have a lot of potential players to see good playing time. I like Marell Evans at middle linebacker with Kenny Demens getting about 40% of the time there. Cam I think will play most of the time at the WLB but have Mike Jones and Brandon Herron spell him when the offense throws out bigger packages. Yea, I think it'll be Jake Ryan and J.B. for the other spot. I like Ryan tho the players are raving about him. Why do you feel a need for elite linebackers in 2013 tho? We got 4 in 2011 and have 4 in 2012 as well. I'd say one *elite* linebacker for 2013, try and get a top 5 or none elite and just get a couple in-staters that aren't as highly ranked but can serve as good back-ups
ReplyDeleteWhoops, I forgot about the 2011 class.I didn't pay much attention last year.Just ignore my linebacker need comment.
ReplyDeleteno problem.
ReplyDeletejust a question: What do you blog about
I was going to blog about michigan recruiting but I decided not too.I I haven't decided on an idea yet. Hbu?
ReplyDeletedoes anyone know how ricardo miller is doing as far as the depth chart goes? he was highly recruited and has some size. i beleive 6'3"? and 4.4 or 4.5 speed?
ReplyDeleteI don't have a blog, this is my aim profile. If I had to blog it'd probably be michigan football, basketball (any type) or fashion (mainly hip-hop)
ReplyDelete@Casimir Miller has 4.5 speed and is probably 6'3 1/2"
Miller is projected as the #3/4 TE. Kevin Koger is the #1, Moore is 2 and Miller is probably tied for 3 with Steve Watson but expect him to get some good playing time this year although it will mostly be mop up duty. I think Miller will come in in 4-5 wide sets when you want a speed/strength threat
Just a question Will.
ReplyDeleteHow old are you? And are you a michigan alum or just a fan?
I am 23, my parents both went to Michigan and I grew up in Ann Arbor, and I usually get up to at least one game each year
ReplyDeleteLucky..I live in Ohio..I get criticized on a daily bases whenever I talk about Michigan.
ReplyDeleteman, that sucks. I couldn't be around that many ohio fans. I do say it is a nice state tho.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes you a Michigan fan?
I like the state..the people..not so much lol
ReplyDeleteLuckily my aunt and uncle are michigan fans so they took me to some michigan games when I was younger.Ever since I've liked michigan.Plus I travel to michigan every year for vacation.
Nice. Did you go to any games last year
ReplyDeleteYes I made it to the Illinois game and the Ohio state game.
ReplyDeleteo, nice, that Illinois game was fun to watch. I haven't been to a ohio state game since 2005 I think. I was at the Bowling Green game. That must've been hard to sit through that ohio state game lol
ReplyDeleteI was in suspense during the whole illinois game.Yea the ohio state game was not fun when both your parents are cheering on ohio state while your sitting beside them in disbelief and despair.
ReplyDeletelol. sounds like a tough spot to be in down there. Do you have any other football questions or topics?
ReplyDeleteNah, maybe tomorrow I gotta sleep..
ReplyDeleteyea, me too.
ReplyDeleteRe:
ReplyDeleteTR.
If someone knows about his character, I'd like to read your post.
I mean no judgment, or criticism of him, or anyone else, but I have a concern:
Two recent Cass Tech CB's have been in the news. One is Boo Boo, the other was a poor kid who I think played, or was going to play for Wayne State, before he was shot and killed.
For all I know, the poor kid who got killed was an innocent crime victim, and TR is an Eagle Scout. If that's the case, I'd like to hear about it.....
1. Garnett
ReplyDelete2. Banner
3. Payton
4. Pipkins
5. Shittu
6. Washington/Wormley/ Obrien
I have been trying to sell everybody on the Banner Garnett package. Both want to play together and that is something that we need to consider much more than we all have. Give up on Diamond already!!! I feel the same way for Dunn! We got 2 very good backs last class with Justice Hayes and Rawls. We need to use the final spots to build the lines. For the final spot I think Obrien might be the better option between the 3 for the 6th spot.
Since Diamond likely won't read this page I'll say it here. We need an incoming LT. We have Taylor Lewan. Lewan>Magnuson, Magnuson>Diamond. Magnuson can be a monster RT just like Kalis will be a monster Guard instead of good tackle. Magnuson might grow into the LT role in a few years, but his footwork/agility need to improve. He can passblock against powerful ends, but speed ends can burn him. Diamond just stands up and catches the defender. He got a great rating as a sophmore/Junior like Wormley did, but head to head Wormley has more upside that Diamond. Kalis would make a better LT than Diamond. Diamond could be a solid RT someday and Magnuson could be an LT someday, but Banner>or=Lewan. Plus Diamond might push his commitment all the way back until December. He's been a Michigan "lean" for months now, he seems wishy-washy while other guys have great technique, better builds, and mean streaks. I wouldn't mind if he did commit, but Banner has NFL potential already. His yet-to-be-refined technique and body type is so valuable that 5 LTs were taken in the first round this year and Nate Solder was even a converted tight end because hieght+agility is more important than size.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the class will likely end up :
ReplyDeleteOL Jordan Diamond
DT Aziz Shittu
DT Ondre Pipkins
DE Chris Wormley
WR Aaron Burbridge
RB Bri'onte Dunn
FB EJ Fatu
Banner is 6'9" and he could still grow an inch or two, he will have a tough time against some speedy players off the edge. I still would take him, but if I had to choose a player out of Garnett banner and Diamond, I would choose Garnett. Manguson would be one of our tackles, Garnett and Kalis would be guards, and either someone from the 2011 class, Braden, or a 2013 kid.
ReplyDeleteThe quarterback coming in the 2013 class is left handed, making the right tackle position more important during his tenure.
ReplyDelete@ dcook
ReplyDeleteVery good point!
Left or Right doesn't really matter. We call them Left tackles because most every QB is right handed so the Left Tackle protects the QBs blindside and must be the best tackle of the two. Weakside or Blindside Tackle is really what we should call it because the Left Tackle would just move to the Right in Morris case.
ReplyDeleteWhich would be Magnuson.......on the right. I am not sure you recruit a natural "left" tackle and then move them to the right side for a lefty QB. Magnuson is a right tackle and IMO....hand picked for Morris.
ReplyDeleteMagnuson could be that guy, he's got the potential, but natural isn't what I'd use to describe him. I know he's played LT but the top 2 OGs in this years class both played RT exclusively in High School too. Magnuson has pretty bad footwork, his pass blocking is great against bigger DE's but he basically hops from wide locked stance to wide locked stance in pass protect. His run blocking is stellar but his footwork there is a little off too, but a lot easier to fix. He'll move to RT in both of our estimations, but I have him moving to RT right away while you have him ending up there after 2013. Banner is the better passblocker if you watch his film. His basketball game helps him quickly move his feet and maintain position, his kickslide is alot better, and his longer arms help him lock out and contain. If we don't take Banner then Magnuson would be the guy for the weakside job, but he's pretty duck footed right now and relies more on his upper body strength than athleticism in blocking. His run blocking is excellent and ferocious and he and Kalis would be Masters of the Universe in the power run from day 1. (Likely they play day 1 because next year we'll only have 2 scholarship tackles,) and if he doesn't redshirt then he likely won't start at LT right away because even Long and Lewan redshirted before playing LT in college.
ReplyDeleteTouch The Banner had a pretty good profile on Magnuson, worth checking out with some film. I'm VERY excited about Magnuson, though, and he hasn't even realized his potential yet.
Does anyone know when Michigan starts summer practice with the coaches?
ReplyDeleteAs for Monty Madaris, I haven't watched any game film yet or read much about him, but the first thing I saw was his GPA. 2.8? Good luck getting into Michigan with a 2.8. I'm not tooting my own horn, but I was nervous about them accepting me and I had a 3.8, then again they didn't want me to play football haha.
ReplyDeleteHe goes to a highly regarded high school, he would have a much higher gpa if he went to some crappy Cincinatti public school.
ReplyDeleteThats good to hear then. It's always a shame when grades hold the athlete back, see demar dorsey
ReplyDeleteAce Williams just tweeted "@chatsportsACE Coaches should be receiving a BIG commitment call soon. And by big, I mean the guy calling weighs 325 lbs"
ReplyDeleteI question the quality of this source, but that sounds like Pee Wee Pipkins.
ReplyDeleteThe more combine video you watch (especially the ones in pads) the more you get convinced we couldn't do much better than OjemudiaWDE, OBrienDT, PipkinsNT, and GodinSDE. Stars will say one thing, but watching these guys all go head to head they dominate against all the top OLinemen, even the dream candidate ones for our class. Army combine, Nike combine, and The Happening makes it look like we might never need to blitz again if those 4 are our front 4. I (reluctantly) hope Ace Crap-Factory Williams is again lucky enough to be right about Pipkins.
ReplyDeleteYea, I'm not sure how I feel about Ace Williams yet. So far what he as said has been holding true, but he's also pretty vague, so it's hard to be wrong when your so vague.
ReplyDeleteWhats Pee Wee's twitter
ReplyDeleteSO KNOW ONE KNOWS WHEN SUMMER FOOTBALL PRACTICE STARTS FOR MICHIGAN?
ReplyDelete@balla
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure the first practice is August 8th.
I'm nervous. This is my final year at Michigan, but I don't want to stop coming to games. I think I'll attend grad school here too, so I can get another couple seasons, maybe see our boys in Blue beat the fuckeyes and put an end to the landslide.
ReplyDeletecant find it. link?
ReplyDeletePeeWee9456
ReplyDeletewhat do you guys know about greg garmon? 4* 6'2 200 lbs, 4.4 40.
ReplyDeleteNorth Carolina is way ahead, we don't have much of a shot at him.
ReplyDeleteIs there a realistic chance Michigan can go 9-3 this season? The coaches seem to think so, so I wanted to know your guys opinions on it.
ReplyDelete10-2 I said!! Lmao yeah 9-3 is perfectly realistic. IMO our d was crippled with youth, and injurys. We won't have as hard of a time as ppl think we will. Won't have a top 10 defense by any means, but I know it will be drastically improved. Offense as well!!
ReplyDelete"The goal of the program, the expectation of this program, is to WIN the BIG..TEN...CHAMPIONSHIP! If we fail, and we don't do that, then we need to get it right. We need to reload. We need to work harder. We need to compete harder. We need to get after it with a sense of urgency."-Brady Hoke being introduced to his team
ReplyDeleteRealistically we have an excellent chance of playing in the first ever B1G Championship Game. We're taking huge strides forward and return the most starters, while everybody else loses a TON of guys.
Notre Dame @home will be tough because they have momentum in their program, while ours is just getting going. Game 2 will be tough for us, but they've been slow out of the gate for Kelly every year now.
ReplyDeleteSDSU's QB throws the ball one way, bullet strikes at crossing routes, but they lose their whole coaching staff so unless they pass our lights out we'll win.
Sparty on the road will be huge, but they lose everyone. They lose all of their LB's and pretty much every tackle they had last year, plus their LT,RT, and C left and they don't have talent depth like other schools do so the offense takes a big step back.
Iowa lost their entire defense and their qb.
Illinois keeps Scheelhaase but loses Leshoure and were only a 7-6 team last year. They lost to Fresno St. and Minnesota at the end of the season.
Nebraska returns nearly the fewest starters in the NCAA, doesn't know who their qb will be, has a new OC and visits us at the end of a tough B1G schedule.
TSIO loses their playcalling head coach, 95% of their offensive production in Pryor, and wears the target on their back all year. They had a safe offense to begin with, now they need to find some way to acquire an offense at all for next year.
If Wisco happens to make the Championship game it'll be a surprise because they return even fewer starters than Nebraska. PSU has a better shot, but Wisco could still do it.
I expect the Vegas over/under for wins in 2012 will be 8. Most people expected an 8 or 9 win season, even without the coaching change.
ReplyDeleteImproved D, improved O, improved special teams, including a kicker, would have all happened even without the change. I'm expecting improved coaching, as well.
I'm obviously biased, but I would not be surprised if Michigan gets some pre-season mention as a team that could surprise a lot of people.
Some good breaks here and there, some pleasant surprises in player development, and this team could be the beginning of something quite special.
Iowa still has some top defensive backs in the B1G in Micah Hyde and Shaun Prater
ReplyDeleteJust a quick update.
ReplyDeleteApparently according to mspeedkills twitter account he says that Elijah shumate and Yuri wright both plan to visit michigan.Shumate wants to visit before the season, while wright wants to take an official.
I wouldn't read into it too much, but this makes me think that richardson is a"soft"verbal and the coaches just wanna make sure they have backup plans.
Word is that Sheldon Day might be going to the BBQ. I wonder if we can get two top DT. Its a position of need I dont know why we wouldnt if they are both top recruits. Pipkins,Day or O'Brien if we can get two of those guys I hope the coaches take them both. Much easier for one of these guys to play DT than have one of are DE turn into a DT.
ReplyDeleteNot to say they're the same, but Godin has the same bodytype/skillset as Suh did in high school. 6'5"-6'6" DE/DT, highly athletic pass rusher, coming in at around 275 lbs. Godin can easily gain 10 more before Sept. 2012. Sheldon Day wouldn't surprise me at the BBQ. He grew up a Michigan fan and lives close by in Indianapolis. He could make an even better 3 tech than OBrien would if he paired with Pipkins.
ReplyDeleteI love the way this recruiting class is shaping up and can't wait to see the job that Hoke/Mattison due with the defense this year. The D may not be back to what it was for decades all the way up through the mid-2000s, but there is going to be significant improvement with more experience at all positions and hopefully (fingers crossed) a lot less injuries in the secondary. I'm looking forward to hearing this on 4th down again more than 2 or 3 times a game...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dERccWsc5Y&feature=related
Mattison will also get us back to this style of defense also...notice how EVERYONE is flying to the ball...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yddze0yyxSo&feature=related
Update Time!!
ReplyDeleteAccording to 247sports Darius Powe is set to visit Miami and Michigan this fall. Has some good offers (Miami, USC, Washington) and is rated 4*by rivals and Espn.I don't think Michigan has offered yet. I highly doubt he will choose us but you never know.
Isn't Darius from the midwest?
ReplyDeleteJehu Chesson is also visiting
@Will
ReplyDeleteNo he's from the west coast.
