Blizzard!

I'm nowhere near the midwest, but everyone seems to be talking about this blizzard/snowstorm or whatever. It is in fact affecting recruiting, as it already moved up the Rawls announcement, and apparently has done the same for the Glenville kids - Frank Clark.

Clark will be announcing sometime tonight, so watch out for that, hopefully I'll be able to confirm the timing of it shortly; Clark is expected to pick Michigan, so you don't want to miss it!

*UPDATE*: As someone in the comments section correctly pointed out, Frank Clark is now announcing at 10AM ET tomorrow. I think the rest of the Glenville kids are announcing tonight though.

Rumor Mill (NSD Eve Edition):

Here's some random things being said on Twitter, other blogs, and the legendary MGoBlog message board!

- Jake Fisher gave his verbal commitment to Oregon over the weekend, link here.

- Darian Cooper is down to Iowa and MSU

- GBW's Eugene Hankerson just tweeted "GBW heads, those who say Cooper is a "huge" loss are over stating the situation. I'll say more after signing day. Michigan will close well". I take it this means Michigan really is out of the race?

  1. I'm eager to see by what he means, "Michigan will close well". If he means we get 4 of the 6 recruits, I'd say that's not a surprise. I wonder if Hoke has any magic left in him to pull in a couple top recruits last second.

  2. There are many ways to interpret Hankerson's tweet.

A: They're "over stating the situation" to say he is a loss for Michigan. He'll sign with Michigan ("Michigan will close well") and he'll go into why Cooper went through his process the way he did "after signing day".

B: "Cooper is a huge" loss are over stating the situation". Its a loss (he'll go elsewhere), but it's not huge because they'll replace him with someone else ("Michigan will close well") who might fit the team's needs better.

C: Cooper wasn't a great fit in Michigan and so its not a huge loss that he went elsewhere. There's plenty of DT talent on the roster and in the 2012 class ("I'll say more after signing day") that Michigan may be better off pursuing than landing.

  3. Sorry, that was a little muddled. I was just trying to say that depending on how you read the news it could be good or bad.

    A. Cooper isn't a loss - is coming to Michigan
    B. Cooper isn't a big loss - they'll land a different DT.
    C. Cooper isn't a big loss - they don't really need him.

  4. @ dolatomat,
We got it. Good analysis of a confusing (and stressful) final day.

  5. I'll go with Option C as what he meant.

  6. I don't know what this guy's talking about (Eugene Hankerson) but we need DT's, we don't have depth and a DT recruit is much needed.

  7. C seems odd when you consider the "Michigan will close well" comment. Personally, I interpret it as B, but won't be shocked either way.

  8. I think the closing well part refers to Willingham, Clark, Barnett and possibly even Fisher. There haven't been many names thrown out there for another DT really.

  12. Could end up top 25 on scout as well, currently #27 I think

  13. Social media wasn't as huge as it is, even three years ago, but Michael Shaw and Roy Roundtree were a huge surprise to many in RichRod's first year. All of the focus was on McGuffie's teetering back and forth between Cal and Michigan.

I say this in hopes that there will be a surprise steal from someone else. It's wishful thinking, but Hoke and Mattison could have been to more places than our known. Not every recruit is willing to Twitter up their every move; some are private and just want to make their choices quietly.

  14. This is how I read into it. Michigan doesn't end up getting Copper tomorrow, but does end up signing Fisher.

Know if you look at Michigan's current roster you will see that there are nine DT's on scholarship next year with three of them being seniors. If they recruit that position hard next year and bring in say 3 then in 2012 you will still have 9 DT's on scholarship. That allows three rotations at DL with a few left over.

I know that it would have been great to get a DL in this class, but in the end the coaching staff did a great job in the short amount of time they had.

Per Mgoblog Michigan has signed a DL coach finally. His name is Jerry Montgomery and played ball at Iowa. His is a young up and comer and most think that he will spend alot of his time recruiting.

Where did you hear that MSU pulled Coopers offer?

  16. I looked on Scout and it says there is a DT still considering us in Andre Sturdivant, and it says Aundrey Walker and Cardale Jones are still considering us all from glenville OH who Benji said will be announcing tonight. Anybody know if we still have a chance at this guys. I would also like Michigan to take Marcus Graham out of Trotwood Ohio (same school as Shaw), a QB at 6'1 195 and runs a 4.47 40 opinions?

  17. *ADD*: Marcus Graham also led his team to the state championship

  18. I wouldn't take much notice of the "considering" thing on scout. It's a bit better than ESPN's, but still not that up to date.
