Arik Armstead Update

Tweeted this earlier whilst I was out, here's a more detailed look:

If Michigan does lose out on Zach Banner, they'll still have a chance to land a major west coast offensive tackle now that Arik Armstead is considering the Wolverines! Armstead is the #1 player in the nation according to scout.com and 247sports, but he's been a USC commit for a long time, so he wasn't even on the radar.

He decommitted over the weekend, and it looks like these lucky schools will be in with a shout; Michigan, Cal, Notre Dame, Alabama, and probably USC still. With five schools seemingly still in the race, all of them should be guaranteed an official visit. Apparently he's already set up visits to Notre Dame and Alabama in the coming weeks.

Ideally, Michigan needs to get him on campus for the Ohio State game, which is the one weekend left in the recruiting calender that could really blow him away. If Michigan really wants to gain an advantage, they could tell him he'll play defense in Ann Arbor, because Armstead has said from Day 1 that he wants to play D-Line.

Whatever happens, it's definitely something to look out for, and it's really encouraging to see the top prospects in the nation starting to take a second look at Michigan.

  1. Didn't somebody say something about a new big five from the west :0... jordan payton, arik armstead, shaq thompson, erik magnuson, banner?? maybe!

  2. Was it GoBlueNorth that said about a week ago there is a bigger D Linemen looking at UM then O'Brien? Could it be true with Arnstead?

  3. Peat has set his visits does anybody know where?

  4. Matt Godin will be moving inside fo sho, but Tom Strobel and maybe even Wormley could make the same move in time and be at least as successful as Heininger has been in the interior. Arik Armstead is way to tall to ever make that switch, and may be an OT prospect only for the next level, but in college he will make a great SDE. With our depth concerns on the Dline I'd like to see both Godin and Strobel taking reps inside, there's room for Armstead if we decide to start recruiting him with Jordan Payton. Lets see Hoke/Mattison Uber Allies work some recruiting magic!

  5. The nation’s No. 3 player in the 2012 class, Tempe (Ariz.) Corona Del Sol’s five-star offensive tackle Andrus Peat has set his first official visit.

"I'm visiting Nebraska on November 26th for the Iowa game," Peat told Scout.com.

"I just want to experience the game day atmosphere there and also get a feel for the school itself and see it it's a place where I feel comfortable."

Nebraska is home to one of the schools leading the five-star's recruitment, as well as his older brother, Husker defensive tackle Todd Peat Jr.

Peat was scheduled to visit Lincoln in early October, but was unable to make the trip because he didn't get his SAT results back in time.

The scores are expected to arrive later this week and Peat will be ready to jump into the next stage of his recruiting process.

Stanford, Florida State, and Texas are a few of the other programs that Peat says will definitely receive a visit. From go blue wolverine site

  6. I don't have a link, but it sounds like Shaq Thompson is taking an official to Michigan for the OSU game. Yuri Wright,Josh Garnett, and Shaq Thompson are visiting for the Game. Arik would be another great visitor.

  7. Michael, word is that Strobel is looking really good at DE right now, so I think Wormley would be more likely to make the switch inside to DT.

  10. I think Peat took an unofficial @ the Mich/ND game. Or was it another game? And is it me but everytime Lil Wayne songs come on, I think of Denard.

  11. Cited through Post Tribune from "a source" states Mitch McGary will choose between Michigan or Duke. And back to football, Payton will announce day after ND/USC game.

  12. @CassBMW

My money says we get them both.

  13. lalondtm: I agree

They are actually dubbing it "Cali Five". Payton, Treggs (Cali commit) Ismael Edwards (I believe thats his name), Shittu and can't remember the 5th (But Treggs mention "several more". Payton and Treggs "talked about" playing together. Same as Banner/Garnett.

I believe the staff will take 5-6 more recruits. And 2 more OL linemen is a possibility. I think most of you guys will understand Linemen are needed after that MSU game. (LT) Lewan (LG) Joshua Garnett (C)??? (RG)Kyle Kalis (RT)Zach Banner (Magnuson backup for both OT). Question is who's our star back running behind these behemoths?? I'm banking on Thomas Rawls. While back Keith Marshall showed interest. Wonder how far the boat sailed . . .

  14. Cass,
I have said for awhile that UM should take two more O Linemen in this class. I am starting to think that Hoke is going to be very picky on who UM will take commits from. If Payton wants to commit he will take it. Everyone else may need to wait til NSD.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I hope Notre Dame looks like crap this weekend with Armstead, Banner, Shaq Thompson, and Payton there! Do we have a realistuc shot with Armstead? Any updates on Mitch McGary? Sounds like Duke has the upper hand, he said him and their center would make a great tandom and the up tempo style of play is a big plus and the slow play of the Big Ten will have am impact on the decision. Still, landing him would be a HUGE get. Go Blue!

    ReplyDelete
  16. They are all West Coast. Hmmm. Payton talked about his Fab/Cali Five. If Payton has already decided he is a UM commit, but made it silent so he can still do his visits, I can see him getting in Banners, Shaq, AND Armstead ears. I think we have a higher chance than others assume with Arik. He wants to play D-Line. With G. Mattison in the fold . . .wow, very strong possibility.

Micth McGary is very fond of Duke (Thanks to Mom). Supposedly mother wants him to go to Duke, but his coach is leaning towards UM. The way Beilin is developing his big man has piqued his interest strongly. IMO its down to Duke or Michigan (also cited through the Tribune) and only Mitch knows where he is going. Keep in mind Novak (Mentor) and GRIII (AAU team-mate) are his close friends.

  17. I copied this from The Big House Blog. Way to bit the hand that feeds you.

•All Michigan Commits Need Not Apply: This past Saturday, Farmington Harrison teammates Funchess and Ojemudia (Michigan commits) wanted to go to the game with MSU Commits Burbidge and Vento. The MSU coaches told Funchess and Ojemudia that they couldn't come. Normally, I would agree that you don't want kids that are committed to the other school on your sideline, but Farmington Harrison has been a MSU feeder school for years. I wonder how that played in the football office at Harrison?

  18. Michigan HAS to start playing better in these nationally recognized games. MSU game was embarrassing. I know Hoke will turn it around, but from a recruiting stand point, we need to start playing better on national tv. Or we could lose some current commits. USC just basically lost this guy for no reason, keep in mind what we have now is not set in stone...

    ReplyDelete
  19. UM has 3 starting O linemen returnig for 2012. Barnum 283lbs, Lewan 294lbs and Schofield 293lbs. This is not big enough to play man ball in the B1G. UM needs to recruit 300+ guys and I think they are going to get it done with the like of Braden 319lbs and Kalis 305lbs. If UM can add some pounds to some of the current plays and can work in Chris Bryant 340lbs Um can start moving people off the ball. Adding Banner and Garnett would help for sure. Bottum line UM needs to find the beef. And I think they are going to find it. I have a feeling UM will move Erik Magnuson to center.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Payton de-committed from USC for the reason that early playing time was not an option (unless your DGB). They have the top WR recruits the last two years in Robert Woods and George Farmer plus a few other high-caliber receivers. He wants to play for a high profile program that offers the opportunity of early PT. Michigan will get him AND Banner.

    1. Payton is a done deal for me.

    2. Banner will take his visits, but the atmosphere at the night game was too AWESOME for anything to beat it. He is in.

    3. Dunn will commit as well, unless an awesome coach is hired early in the process. I think A.Washington, Stanford, and Dunn (Pittman too)are all waiting to see who the new hire will be.

    4. Darboh had a GREAT visit to Iowa, but I still like our chances with him. He still wants to schedule visits to Florida and ND as well.

    5. Yuri Wright will go Blue. The Ohio game will be a major recruiting day similar to the ND game was. If we play well and the atmosphere is anywhere as electric he is in too!

    6. Longshots:

I think Garnett may have legitimate interest, but it may seem unattractive to go somewhere with so many other great linemen (Braden and Stacey aren't decommiting. Bars may). I would love to see Garnett in Blue though.

Armstead will NOT go Blue and as great as he may be on the DL (DE) he would specifically be a 4TH STRONG SIDE DE!!! Unless Hoke feels Strobel, Godin and/or Wormley are showing cold feet I think there are more important priorities. I do think Godin will move to 3-tech, but Storbel and Wormley will stay outside. If Armstead wants to play OT, I would drop any OL outside of Kalis for him, but its DL or bust and at 6'8 I cant think of anyone EVER being productive at as DT at that height (John Henderson was close at 6'7). He would have to stay at SDE!

  21. Hi I have been reading this blog for a long time just have never really posted much.
I love all the insightful comments that are posted here.
I have read that Hoke may take 5-6 more players this year.
I may be being optimistic but what do you think about this final 6:

    Armstead
    Banner
    Payton
    Dunn
    Wright
    Thompson/Powe

    ReplyDelete
  22. As much as I would love to have him in Maize and Blue, I feel like Darboh may want to stay closer to home...Iowa will play a huge factor when it's time to commit. Payton makes me a little bit nervous considering that the Golden Domers are still in the mix and he's announcing the day after his visit...it just makes me wonder...Hopefully we get one of these 2 at least with maybe Madaris filling the other slot.

  23. Average weight of prototype All Pro Tackles Jake Long, Joe Thomas, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, and Matt Light is 311 lbs. As high school seniors/college freshmen our kids don't need to be over 300 pounds. They'll get there, they just need proper coaching. That said, Andrus Peat and Zach Banner at 305 and 310 and growing would really help us play some MANBALL!!!

  24. It kills me to see the badgers get all these 300+ o linemen every year.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't recall anyone talking about Darius Powe, whats his status? He is still high on Michigan, his tape is good. 6'3, 195 lbs. 4.5 40.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Jer
Besides this year the 300lb linemen that the badgers have recruited have all been 2 or 3 star prospects. So im sure you would be unhappy with there ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  27. That's the difference between Wisconsin and alot of teams though.... they take the underrated talent and develop them into great players with NFL talent. Honestly this years recruiting class for Wisconsin has the most 4 stars i think I've ever seen them recruit in the class.

Btw i would love to see us close out the class with Wright, Banner, Payton, Madris, Garnett

  29. Taft senior defensive end Adolphus Washington and Taft senior wide receiver Dwayne Stanford are considering three college programs each as their finalists, according to Taft football coach Mike Martin.

Stanford is considering UC, Ohio State and Oregon (no particular order), according to Martin.

Washington is considering Michigan State, Ohio State and Alabama (no particular order), according to Martin.

The players are scheduled to announce their college choices at 10 a.m. Nov. 9 at Taft. National signing day is Feb. 1.

  30. It's all good. We can't get them all... After thru graduate they will wish they went to Michigan after we win a title! Best of luck to them... Hope Washington isn't as dirty as ghoulston.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It is what it is with these two guys. I don't think any of us thought that either one of these guys were going to choose UM. Now the coaches can focus on guys who want to be a part of a championship team.

I hear the coaches are turning there focus to a new RB. I read Dunn is visiting for the Purdue game now. Funny when the coaches start talking to other Rbs Dunn makes a visit.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If any fellow comrades have a Scout Pass, please fill me in on the Keith Marshall article. Supposedly we have a good shot now. Last I heard was that he wants to play with a team that has a good RB already so he doesn't take the full load. He was thinking about GA with Isahai Crowley (spelling?). Heat is rising in the fall at UM. Go Blue

  33. It's a shame that the B1G had to suspend Gholston and not MSU. Way to show your player whos in charge.

I would love to get Marshall in this class.

UM dropped to 6th. in team recruiting. Has any of UM commits adda star?

  39. Also i am kind of surprised we haven't offered Kamani Thomas yet....The kid seems to be a solid Michigan lean and they compared him to an early Trent Richardson. With all the prospects for RB we have for 2013 i would be okay with us not taking on this year and focusing on shoring up our O and D line. Plus maybe grabbing some top recruits like Wright, Thompson, or Shumate

    ReplyDelete
  40. Okay so it didn't post all of my original post.
Anyways i was doing some twitter stalking and noticed Laquon Treadwell was blowing Shane Morris shit for doing recruiting for UM. Also i noticed he seems to be pretty good friends with current UM player Roundtree. He did inform Morris though that he was not in any hurry to commit and just wanted to find the right university for him. Personally im hoping these guys get in his ear(including standifer) and get this kid to commit.

  43. There is a really good article on Rivals.com about Denard and Devin Gardner. Hoke said that Robinson would remain the starting quarterback the rest of the year, but Gardner will play. I am starting to think that the spread schemes will be going away more next year and that Gardner may be the starting QB and that Robinson will be our Percy Harvin-type RB/WR. We will be thin at WR next year and if he adds a little weight/strength he may be able to be our starting RB. 5'11 and 200lbs isn't too bad for someone that has 4.32 speed and the elusiveness he has. This may not be an indictment on Robinson as much as it is on the quality of QB and potential Hoke and Borges see in Gardner. Clearly, Gardner is a part of the future here and it doesn't sound like it is just in 2013, but 2011 in a significant role. Robinson getting 20-25 carries probably will not change if he is a RB, but the passing game improvements may open up running lanes for Denard to have a great rushing season, without having to run in fear of hurting himself in a way that would make him a (more) ineffective passer. It will be interesting to watch during spring practice how this all develops. No matter what Robinson needs the ball and to be put in a position to make the most out of his strengths.

  47. Columbus (Ind.) East five-star quarterback Gunner Kiel called Indiana coach Kevin Wilson on Thursday night and told him he’s reevaluating his commitment to the Hoosiers program.

The 6-foot-4, 218-pound Kiel committed to Indiana back in July over a national offer list from the likes of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Stanford, TCU, Tennessee, USC and Wisconsin.

“I’m just reevaluating my decision and plan on taking some future visits to other colleges,” Kiel told 247Sports on Friday morning.

A future U.S. Army All-American, Kiel added that he could take all five of his official visits before making a college decision. Whichever school he chooses, he plans to enroll early and begin classes in January.

Ranked as the nation’s top pro-style passer and No. 12 recruit overall, Kiel passed for 2,645 yards and 36 touchdowns as a junior. He threw just six interceptions and also rushed for seven more scores. Through nine games this fall, Kiel is 90-for-160 passing, for 1,710 yards and 20 touchdowns to just two interceptions. Columbus East is 8-1 heading into the state playoffs.

Kiel’s older brother Dusty is currently a red-shirt sophomore quarterback at Indiana

  48. With 13 in the previous mix for Peat, he now says it's pretty much down to eight to 10 schools at the moment, with Nebraska, Florida State, Texas and Stanford being the prime four.

However, look for Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, Oregon and a few other schools to try to make a big push for Peat.

Also, Peat also tells Scout.com that though he knows he wants to officially visit Nebraska, Florida State, Texas and Stanford, he also likely will take some unofficial visits to other schools too.

  50. As far as Gunner Kiel's future destination goes I think you can eliminate Oklahoma (already has a 4-star commit) and Florida (has the #1 & #3 QB recruits from 2010). As far as I'm concerned he is a done deal to Notre Dame. He will be there this weekend. Hopefully it doesn't mess with Banner and Payton too much if he is recruiting for them.

  51. The Michigan coaches have been hitting the 2013 recruiting trail hard. They already have secured ESPNU 150 Watch List prospects quarterback Shane Morris (Warren, Mich./De La Salle) and defensive back Dymonte Thomas (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) and are looking for more.

Here are a few quick hitters from 2013 prospects that have heard from Michigan recently:
Linebacker Peter Kalambayi (Matthews, N.C./Butler) spoke with the Michigan coaches last week. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker goes to the same school that 2011 linebacker Kris Frost did. Frost ended up at Auburn, if you recall. Kalambayi says he is definitely interested in Michigan. "I like Michigan academically and athletically, so I'm very interested in them. I'm going to contact (defensive line coach) Coach (Jerry) Montgomery again soon," he said. Kalambayi also said he will probably know his final decision around this time next year.
Offensive lineman Patrick Kugler (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) got a visit from offensive line coach Darrell Funk this week. "Coach Funk came to one of my practices earlier this week. He talked to my offensive line coach and told him that it was nice to see me play in person, and that they would get me up for a visit soon," Kugler said. Kugler grew up in Michigan, and his father is the offensive line coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers. An offer for Kugler is probably coming soon.

    ReplyDelete
  52. For a while, it looked as though four-star offensive lineman Alex Kozan (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Valor Christian) was on the verge of narrowing his college list. He had 19 offers and had trimmed his list to seven list.

Kozan’s list, however, has increased from seven to nine in a matter of two weeks thanks to two BCS heavyweights -- and bitter rivals -- in Michigan and Ohio State. Kozan picked up the Michigan offer at the beginning of the month, and late Thursday, he was offered by Ohio State.

“It feels pretty good. I’m blessed to have these opportunities,” said Kozan, who is the sixth-ranked player in Colorado by ESPNU. It’s all hard work, and I have great coaches.”

    ReplyDelete
  53. Tailback Keith Marshall will take his first ever trip to South Bend, Ind., to check out Notre Dame this weekend.

It's a chance for the Fighting Irish to make a big impression for the five-star prospect -- and not just on the football field when they play USC. Marshall, who sports a 4.3 grade point average at Millbrook High School in Raleigh, N.C., will be as curious about Notre Dame's academic offerings as its football facilities.

“I'm looking forward to seeing the atmosphere and meeting with the academic staff,” Marshall said in a text message to ESPN.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Michigan is prepared to take one more offensive lineman for the 2012 class to go along with the five that already have committed. One of the main prospects the coaches are targeting is Jordan Diamond (Chicago/Simeon).
Diamond has been on the Wolverines' radar for some time now, and he has always maintained that Michigan is one of his top schools. The recruiting process has taken a back seat to his season, but he has taken plenty of visits to various programs.
"Right now I'm planning on going to either the Michigan State game or the Notre Dame game this weekend," he said. "I'm just taking everything week by week and figuring out where I'll go from there."

    ReplyDelete
  55. Looks like highly rated safety Shaq Thompson has scheduled a visit for the Ohio State game. I like Jarrod Wilson, but Shaq Thompson is rated higher in all publications.

Andrus Peat is a long shot. I think he will end up at Nebraska where is older brother is currently going to school.

I wouldnt expect us to take a RB unless it was either Keith Marshall or Brionte Dunn.

Interesting note, i was reading an article online and apparently Wisconsin's O-Line is bigger than 29 NFL teams' O-Line. Wow....

  60. Has anybody talked about Houma playing RB? I mean he's got great size 6' 215 lbs runs a 4.5 40. He reminds me of Leroy Hoard from the late 80's early 90's. Hoard was more of a FB from what I've seen, but a very productive strong runner. He was about the same size as Houma, an inch or so two shorter and a little stronger but Houma has a lot of room to add strength. I'd love to see them run him like Bo ran Hoard.

As for the comment above about next year having Gardner QB and Denard RB/WR. The more I watch this year, the more I'm liking that idea. I LOVE DENARD, but he is just NOT getting it done through the air. I'm all for him playing QB if he can correct that, but as much as I love the guy, I'd rather win football games, and if that means putting him somewhere else on the field, I'll take it. I agree, though, him switching to RB would be very very easy, WR, no so much.

He already possess all the RB talent you could ask for, all he needs to do is put on weight, and with our conditioning and strength coaches, that's easy, just ask Van Bergan and Roh. It would also open up the playbook more for trick plays because he can throw the ball, especially when defenses think he's going to run, which we've seen before and it works great.

Transitioning to WR is much harder. We don't know how his hands are, he'd have to learn routes, and blocks, it's just much more difficult.

The only problem I see with this transition, is will Denard stay at Michigan if the coaches tell him he's not going to be QB.

    ReplyDelete
  61. when u think o a run'n bck(just like above,w/ denard)u dont come across'd a nature run'n bck like this..........At 5'11", 180 pounds,Keith Marshall may be the fastest running back in the country. He boasts a 4.32 40 time to prove it, and it also shows on tape.

He displays excellent speed, acceleration and burst to score from anywhere on the field, simply by running by people.

    ReplyDelete
  62. another 2013 ol propect michigan is look'n@.......Any time a junior offensive lineman holds offers from the likes of Arizona, Stanford and Iowa, it's safe to say he's a special talent. At 6-foot-5, 290 pounds, lineman Kyle Bosch (Wheaton, Ill./St. Francis) is no exception.

Bosch isn't even finished with his junior season but already has top programs in the country sending him mail, something his coach believes was inevitable.

"He's first of all a tremendous physical specimen," St. Francis coach Greg Purnell said. "At his size he has good feet, and he's a good athlete. He's also pretty well advanced for his age."

    ReplyDelete
  63. @michdepitts

The thing is, Denard IS keith Marshall. 5'11, 190 lbs, 4.32 speed. If Denard puts on another 10-20 lbs in the off-season, he'd be 5'11 200-210 lbs with lightning speed/quickness. Thats special.

Usually who has the best hands on a football team? 9 out of 10 times it is the quarterback. That is why they usually hold the ball on extra point kicks. Also alot of top receivers in college are converted high school Qb's. Because thinking about it a Qb has to learn the routes just as much as the Wr because of the timing involved. The good thing also about maybe transitioning DR out to other positions is he would lose the lightweight pads of a QB and hopefully put on the bulkier Rb pads and not get hurt as much. Jer and me have been saying this for over a month and were pretty much blacklisted for our views and it is relieving to see other people finally starting to entertain the idea.
Also i believe DR is a guy who will do whatever and play whatever position the coaches ask him because he is a humble, non selfish guy and if he believes it is for the better of the team then he will do it. Plus he has to know that the possibility of being a QB in the pros is almost unrealistic. He would stand a much better chance at being the dynamic athlete he is and finding ways of getting him the ball in space, not under center. However with his knowledge and slight skill as a passer he would be very interesting for trick plays. Either way Hoke makes the final decision and like many have said before i doubt he gets on here for coaching advice lol. I will stand behind whatever decision our coaches make and believe they will lead this program back to the top level program where it belongs. Hell just look at the trail we are blazing in recruiting. Hail to the Victors!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thats a very good point, about QB-WR, I never looked at it like that but it makes sense. I still think he'd be more effective as a RB than a WR, but either way, if he gets the ball in space, the defense might as well give up. Maybe we could see him playing the reggie bush role, in the backfield and spread out wide. He doesn't have the size of reggie bush, but he would create the mis-matches like reggie could. No LB in CFB stands a chance one on one with Drob, and if you get WR's blocking the DB's down field its goodbye. I'm with you though, whatever Coach Hoke decides, I will support.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Thank you

  67. I've been a DR at QB supporter in my time on here... however, his passing of late is starting to turn me in the opposite direction. I agree that if this is as good as his passing will ever be, we should move him to RB or WR; not this year, but next. However, I have a lot of faith in him to pick up his passing tremendously going into next year. Like some have said before, Borges's QBs have almost always improved the 2nd year in the system.

So I guess this is my take: If his passing does not get any better in the offseason, move him to RB or WR (Reggie Bush role). However, if he does improve at passing in the offseason (which my gut is telling me he will) then keep him at QB. Because seriously... imagine how dominant DRob would be if he could hit an open receiver consistently. If he improves his passing, he very well could be the Heisman candidate that we all want him to be next year.

  68. That could happen with DR, but then again Borges said he doesn't plan on taking more than 300 yards of total offense per game off the field. His words, not mine...no assumptions or "reading into what a coach is saying." Borges said it himself.

lol it seemed like it was me and you against the world in this argument for the past few months and ive been noticing more and more lately people are starting to entertain the idea and i just had to point that out.

I know a lot of people probably don't want to hear this name on this site but DR reminds me alot of Deshawn Jackson with his shiftyness and speed and look what that dude does once he gets the ball into space. Eventhough he isn't a Qb he is still a gamechanger.
I do agree though however a instantaneous change at Qb is the last thing we need. DG is not prepared to take over the helm. But i am very happy with how Hoke and company have been integrating him into the offense and getting him some experience.

  70. @akmed
Ive said it time and again and i will say it again. Noone and i believe noone believes DR should be taken off the field. He needs the ball in his hands as much as possible. Just preferably not in passing situations as of late and with him being the starting QB the smarter teams focus on the run and dare him to throw and it hasn't been pretty as of late lol.
Now just take a imaginary journey with me for a minute. Keep in mind this is all completely hypothetical. Suppose we flank DR out as slot receiver and possible running back and he racks up 150 rushing and possibly 100 receiving yards a game and for good measure 50 yards passing in a few tasteful trick plays. Then you still got DG at the Qb position who also racks up 50 rushing yards, 250 passing yards a game. Again this is all hypothetical but i would take 600 yards between 2 guys over 300 yards by one guy any day. This allows the defense to not mainly focus on DR every game and should help open up the field, especially with noone stepping up consistenly every game to prove as that second dominate threat.
    @bball
IF DR steps up his game and drastically improves in the passing game, I agree he should stay at the QB spot, because many QB's have shown great improvement in Borges second year, but if that improvement is not there, i think they should begin to explore other options(DG). But again this is all hypothetical and maybe just wishful dreaming by me and a few others

  71. I thnk DR will most likely be the starter for the rest barring any injury. And I hope he stays health. But I said a couple of post ago that DG will be the starter next year and I am not backing down on that. So people diagree with me and that is fine. DR has everything it take to lead UM to a championship. He just needs to settle down and focus.

Now for the rest of this year I believe it will be DR with alot of DG mixed in.

I said DR would make a good RB. Never really thought about WR. WR maybe a better spot for him. Tons of options for DR at WR.

Any chance Dunn commit after the Purdue game? Just thinking he may pull the trigger if Marshall is looking at UM.

  72. @ bendy, agree with everything you said except for the fact that you cant count Denard's 100 receiving yards and Devin's 250 passing yards as separate yards since they would be happening on the same play... so really only 500 total yards. And I think 250 passing yards would be a little high for Devin at this point, but honestly... 200 would be fine, that's more than Denard has been getting lately. That's still a ton of yards, and thats not even counting any yards our running backs could get for us... which really is I think what our team has been missing this whole year, a running game with somebody other than Denard. He needs some of the pressure taken off of him to flourish I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I dont mind having denard at qb starting 6-0 and honestly no qb would look good throwing the ball in 40 mph wind... So last game passing judgements shouldnt matter. But imo, with better play calling denard runs more than 17 times and throws much less than 27 times like he did on sat. We are 7-0. I think we should run the denard sweep much and especially on 4 th and 1 inside twenty yard line. But im eager to see how season ends and worry about a non qb debate in my mind in the off season... Weekend sucks when michigan doesnt play! Football isnt the same without The U of M playing. Either way i wish we could get some inside scoop on marshall. That kid looks Tough, i could play qb and have a great offense the way he runs! Man i can only imagine him, dg and dr in the backfield next year lol! Wow what a fantasy!

  74. When I think of denard I think of Chris Johnson of Tennessee titans. IMO. Anyone else see a comparison?

    ReplyDelete
  75. @Jeremy

Denard is an exact replica of Chris Johnson. They are the exact same size

5'11. 190 lbs. 4.2 speed. dreads. they are LITERALLY the same in every way, physically at least.

    ReplyDelete
  76. hey im 5'11" and 190 pounds.... does that mean if i grow dreads i can run a 4.2 40? lol
@Hail....its even a tougher weekend when their isn't a UM game and their isn't a team to root for playing against OSU

    ReplyDelete
  77. Root for wisconsin to beat spartina

    ReplyDelete
  78. O i am rooting for Wisconsin and def for Nebraska next weekend too! Hopfully we can play better football and win out. If we get good weather and just keep improving we may have a chance to win out. Will be very tough! Imagine what recruits wld want to come seeing us 10-1 going into osu game

    ReplyDelete
  79. Btw i think payton goes with Notre Dame monday... Just dont have him feeling Blue... If i was a reciever i would want to go to a pass heavy school! But just my thoughts. I do think Dunn commits soon to us! But we will see! I do hope ND wins! Make us look better

    ReplyDelete
  80. I cant believe the talk about DG starting at QB and moving DR to WR or even RB is still being discussed on here. You do not move a 2X HEISMAN canidiate in his junior year to another position!! And DR is NOT Chris johnson,CJ has played RB for years and cant take the punishment Shoelace has not and can not. I hope when Gardner does get to start he doesnt have a bad game or people will be wanting to move him to WR and start Shane Morris!

    ReplyDelete
  81. I agree ive just never seen so many unhappy people with a 6-0 and better play calling i believe a high possibilty of 7-0... If devin does start next year 1st game, good luck because we will have a qb problem after playing Alabama! Either way ill support whoever Hoke decides to start. Just wondering this thought... Is our staff going to stay forever? I mean i know hoke will but what are AB and GM stance on being at Michigan for a long time? Do they wanna be head coaches?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Jordan Patron Facebook "Notre Dame ladies and gentlemen" The Michigan hype sure is dying down.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Borgres and Mattison have had plenty of opportunities to be HC, I think they are content with being coord.

I still think Payton is going BLUE, I don't think ND will change his tune that much, they are playing USC, the school he decomitted from

  84. Question: if we win out and MSU gets beat today but wins out, will they still play in the big ten championship. That means we would be 11-1. And a bcs bowl birth most likely? Because MSU will get beat twice by Wisconsin! I wouldnt mind a BCS game rather than playing Wisconsin in big ten championship... Any thoughts. Thanks for thoughts on coaches

    ReplyDelete
  85. As much as I hate to say it we don't want to be in a BCS game and get our heads beat in by a LSU or a BAma or Oregon which is what would happen. We are a good/decent team and nothing more right now. But then again I would rather get beat bad in a BCS game then get beat bad in some other bowl game. Dont forget the Big Ten is VERY weak this year so if we go 10-2 or 11-1(which I highly doubt happens) we still are not a great team.

    ReplyDelete
  86. O i agree but id rather get beat bad by another team than wisconsin... Who knows we could draw Boise state

    ReplyDelete
  87. People don't give Boise enough credit, on the right day they could easily beat anyone... they would beat us by at least 2 touchdowns. While our record at the end of the year might say we are a BCS caliber team, we won't be. Probably very similar to MSU and their 11-1 record last year.

    ReplyDelete
  88. @bball

You have to be kidding... At least two touchdowns? I don't think YOU'RE giving Michigan enough credit. I would love to draw boise st. I believe michigan can win that game.

    GO BLUE

  91. @ Wolverines

Boise beat a very good Georgia team who is now 4-1 in the SEC by two touchdowns. Kellen Moore is probably one of the top 3 QBs in the nation, I just don't think we would match up well. You may be right though, I really wish we could see Boise in a real conference

    ReplyDelete
  92. One thing I know for sure... I cant WAIT until these mammoth linemen we're recruiting this year develop and we start to look like Wisconsin does this year. Get a good RB and some decent receivers and stick Shane Morris back there... watch out. Things are DEFINITELY looking up for us

    ReplyDelete
  93. Is it just me or does it really piss other people off when MSU wins?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Well when they win 2 weeks in a row based on shady ref calls...yeah it really pisses me off.

    ReplyDelete
  95. @akmed2011 how did they win off a shady ref call?? That was clearly a touchdown. Now lets just hope Nebraska can beat them next week.

    ReplyDelete
  96. So yea, once these next 2 recruiting classes get in to Michigan, it's going to be a force to be reckoned with. A lot of top tier talent coming in next year in the trenches and linebacker alone. I also have high hopes for Blake Countess in the secondary, he's going to be really good next year and on. Then of course there's going to be some real drop back passers at QB, I love DR as the QB I completely believe that over the offseason he will get to where he needs to be, just look at his passing year 1 to 2 in RR offense he went from around 40% to 61% . But, I am ready to see a Chad Henne/Tom Brady style QB. And, I am counting down the days until Michigan has a consistent RB, everyone remember Mike Hart's freshman year? 3 games in a row he ran for over 200 yds. I want to see Michigan with that kind of RB, and a deep threat at WR.
