O'Brien to Tennessee

Three star instate DT Dan O'Brien announced for Tennessee today, over Michigan, MSU and Florida. I guess I shouldn't really say 'over' Michigan, because the common view is that Michigan pulled out of his recruitment sometime in the last month; apparently already satisfied with their DL haul.

This would help to explain why he committed to Tennessee before his official visit there. He has already visited the Vols unofficially, in fact they probably were his leader for most of the year before a summer surge from Michigan. Anyway, Tennessee gets a good one, and Michigan has to trust the coaches. (Not hard to do!)

  1. I don't think anyone of us were shocked by this news today. Good luck to him on Old Rocky Top in the future. Michigan is on it's way back and that's the most important thing. "You will come back stronger than ever. Like Lance Armstrong, but with 2 balls." - Ari Gold

  2. I know people will dissagree with me on this but I think UM made the right decision to pull away from Dan O'Brien. I am sure he is a very good kid and wish him the best of luck. I have know problem with UT good program. I am starting to believe more and more that UM will swithch to a 3-4 defence in the next couple of years if not next year. UM has put in alot of time recruiting LBs and DBs thats by design.

I do believe UM would take Washington or Shittu if given the chance. And would take Wright in a second.

I am also starting to believe UM will not get another commit til after the OSU game. And that would be a shame.

  3. Will people throw a fit since we are gonna run a 3-4 and not a 4-3 like we did when RR said he wasn't going th have four man line? I hope sat we see even more improvement as we get closer to MSU game! What a year we could have if we cld slip by sparty. Recruits will be dieing to come to AA to play. Go blue

  4. Hail,
I hope you don't think I am throwing a fit about changing to a 3-4. I am in favor of it. UM will have the LBs and DBs in a couple of years to pull this off.

  6. Lalondtm.

Some of us believe UM will switch to a 3-4 defence in a couple of years. Thats why the coaches are taking so many LBs and DBs. Just a thought not for sure.

  7. A 3-4 defense will be a lot tougher on the run than the 3-3-5 was under RichRod. Not to mention all our players have improved from a technique and motivation standpoint. I want to be clear thought that i'm not hating on RichRod. No RichRod, No Denard. Remember that and be forever grateful.

  8. That 3-3-5 was RR's demise. I hated that scheme. But with Greg Mattison defensive mind paired with Hoke's, pretty impressive thus far.

  9. I think the coaches recruiting so many LBs and CBs is them getting depth and more talent at those positions. The LBs that Michigan is recruiting are not your typical outside LBs size for a 3-4. I could be wrong but I think Mattison ran 4-3 in Baltimore and most of his coaching career.

  10. I think he ran a 3-4. BUT I COULD BE WRONG!!! I hope they stick with the 4-3.

  11. They did mostly use a 3-4 in Baltimore but when he as at Florida they ran a 4-3. I think the type of scheme he will run in the future will be directly related to the type of personal, talent, depth he has if he changes anything at all.

  12. With coach Mattison coaching the defence it really does not matter if it is a 4-3 or 3-4 these kids will be well coached. Switching to a 3-4 is just someting to think about. The options you have to change things up the better.

  13. Ah I see. I would prefer to stay with the 4-3. I think that defense works in the B1G and we are slowly getting back to that, I don't want to see a change already (3-4 years or whatever), I like it this way. The only other defense I'm a fan of, is the 4-2-5, but I don't think that will work in the B1G either.
