Upset Weekend

The BCS title race was really shaken up last night as Oklahoma and Wisconsin both suffered losses, all but ending their title hopes. Assuming Alabama wins out, and Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State at the end of the year, we'll have a really interesting situation where Boise State might be the only unbeaten team left to face Alabama.

Anyway, another upset that might slide under the radar is USC beating Notre Dame in South Bend. The Irish have looked pretty good since losing to UM back in September, and USC hasn't exactly been wowing people. Notre Dame had a very strong group of recruits at the game last night, so it's probably a good thing that they lost.

This affects Michigan because; Jordan Payton, who is set to decide sometime between now and Tuesday, was meant to be at the game, so having the Irish lose could just seal things for Michigan. I didn't watch the game, but one can only assume the atmosphere was deflated; unlike the Big House when Payton visited there.

So after a long break, we are back on commitment watch!

  1. Hopefully it sealed the deal with a couple of guys that were at that game.

  2. I agree. Has anyone heard what the visitors said about their ND experience?

  3. A couple of notes.

    1. I am not getting the warm fuzzys from Patyon.
    2. Bengi I watched the start of the USC and ND game. USC took the fight out of the crowd in the first with 2 quick TDs.
    3. I hate to do this but I have to give MSU credit. The D played well. Evan if Russell gave the game away.
    4. Do we have to start to worry about Purdue? Those kids are showing some heart and guts.

Is there any recruits coming to the Purdue game?

  4. @Jer- I totally agree with you on MSU deserving credit. And yea, I think Purdue needs to be on everyones mind, they have some bad losses, but they've come back and will be looking to get on a roll and get one win closer to bowl eligibility. Either they're getting better, or Illinois was overrated and bad.

  6. Lequon Treadwell is visiting with his mom, he said she is very important to is his recruitment so this is big.
As Jeremey said Brionte is visiting for the game, he choose that over the Wiscy OSU game so its a big deal.
I havent heard about any other out of state guys visiting, but probably a few instate guys will be there. (Shane Morris said on twitter he is going, probably to recruit Treadwell)

  9. Benji,

Scout does not have alot of info on there site about Jeremy Clark. He looks like he has good size 6'-4" and 195lbs. I think he could make the move to CB. But I don't now what his speed is? What do you and everyone else think?

  10. He runs a 4.48 40 yard dash and he has 5 defensive touchdowns this year. He definately looks like a safety. In his film he looks pretty good at WR, but not a corner.

  11. @Benji,he is not a corner he is a pure free safety. I think him being added this year has more to do with the fact that Greg Brown is probably leaving than anything with Yuri Wright.

  12. Just looking at all option. As far as the Yuri Wright I was hoping more for someone leaving then dropping Wright. Any word on Jordan Payton yet good or bad?

  13. @Jer only thing on Payton that I have heard is he had a great time at ND but I don't think it's time to worry yet. How sweet would that be tho Clark could have played corner at 6-4!!

  14. His size is what made me think CB.

  15. no jump balls against him! lol

  16. He could play WR? God knows UM needs one.

  17. Thats why I really hope we get that WR out of Iowa. We need a 6-3 wideout badly!

  18. Is anyone worried about the possibility that some of the instate commits switching to MSU? Especially with the defense and overall season sparty is having.

  19. Growing up in state there aren't a ton of fence sitters. And those who are don't usually know anything about sports (from my observations at least.) Even if you don't bleed maize or green from birth I think you lean 1 way or another throughout your life. I just don't see how an in state recruit could jump ship at this point. Someone from outside of this rival state may be a different story. Not like we are having a horrific season anyway. Leave a 9-3 Michigan making strides back to glory, for a 10-2 MSU losing the face of their program to graduation this year? I just don't see that happening. I am of course a UofM homer tho. Lol.

  20. Argument #1 - We're forgetting that MSU was 11-1 last year and co-champions and it's done little to help their recruiting this year. Right now we are both winning programs with one gaining momentum and one standing to lose ground - We win
Argument #2 - If these kids are chasing academics - we win.
Argument #3 - Coaching - as a parent who do I want teaching my kid about life and growth. - we win.
Argument #4 - the Winged Helmet - we win.
