It looks like Michigan's slim chances of landing Arik Armstead have come to a close already, that is if you believe what 247Sports' JC Shurburtt. In a brief article today about where Armstead is likely to end up, Michigan was not even mentioned.
Shurburtt outlines Cal and USC as the frontrunners, largely due to proximity to home and the fact that their DL coaches are Tosh Lupoi and Ed Orgeron respectively, two of the best recruiters in college football.
Despite a good visit to Notre Dame, the Irish's chances apparently aren't that great, which doesn't bode well for Michigan given our similarities. The odds were never good to begin with, but somehow they've got even worse in a matter of days.
I don't think to many of us thought he was coming to UM so no big deal. Would have nice to get him. Still wish him the best of luck.
ReplyDeleteWhat about former DL coach Brady Hoke? When it was rumored that we were in the running for this kid, it was also rumored that Armstead wanted to play DL, which seemed like contradictory rumors. He wants to play defense, and we don't have a spot for him there.
ReplyDeleteUM would take another DL, but only if he's an absolute stud. Most sites have Armstead graded as an OT, so I don't know how good he is defensively.
ReplyDeleteFor example, a guy like Azizz Shittu would be accepted even though we don't need another DT.
(Note: Shittu isn't coming to UM, this was hypothetical)
West Des Moines (Iowa) Dowling wide receiver Amara Darboh
ReplyDeleteDarboh plans to visit U-M for the Ohio State game, and will make his decision shortly thereafter. The 6-2, 190-pounder has been timed at 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash and uses that exceptional speed to separate from defenders after the catch. The four-star prospect has missed much of his senior season with a separated shoulder, but is expected to return to the lineup this week.
I see that UM has moved to #2 on Rivals from #3. I don't think they have altered their player ratings at all. Did somebody decommit from Alabama of Florida State - they are at #3 and #4.
ReplyDeleteDT James Hamilton switched his commitment from FSU to South Florida. Mario Edwards just visited Oklahoma and might be switching too.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if Cam Gordon will play this season?
Boy I bet USC is fired up about the chances of landing a top prospect like that. :o)
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if Cam Gordaon will play this season?
ReplyDeleteGordon out because of a balky back. The sophomore has yet to play on defense this year, although he made his season debut last week on kick return, signaling he's getting close.
We have a higher chance than most people think with Arik Armstead. Our only problem is time. We are almost full and Armstead wants to make the right choice. I don't see him going back to USC (HE DE-COMMITED!!!). Cal is not a prestigious school. And if location was a factor, why would he even considered UM, ND, and Alabama as possible schools?
ReplyDelete2013 IL WR Laquon Treadwell will not be making it this weekend, according to this tweet.
ReplyDeleteMichigan has also offered 2013 IL OT Kyle Bosch and IL OT Ethan Pocic.
ReplyDeleteBrady Hoke said this afternoon true freshman running back Justice Hayes will redshirt this season, and the school will seek a sixth year of eligibility for linebacker Marrell Evans.
ReplyDeletePer Ace Bender retweet, Brionte Dunn will not be attending the Michigan Purdue game. Instead, Ohio Wisconsin game is where he will be. No big surprise, I think we all would like to have Dunn. I have heard that he had plans to enroll early. If he does enroll early, when does he have to make that decision?
ReplyDeleteIf you have a chance on ESPN's Outside the lines they palyed the audio of Tressels meeting with the NCAA. It amazed me how COCKY Tressel was in the interview. How they did not get hit with the failure to monitor I will never know.
ReplyDeleteAnd on another note ESPN should not let Urban Meyer call any B1g games or review any game film on B1g teams until OSU has hired a coach. I say this because even ESPN believes he is taking the OSU job. ESPN has already told one former coach he could not call any of there BB games because of the possiblity of him taking the job at that school.
Saw a statistic today in the Wall Street Journal. In the past 5 meetings of UM v MSU, MSU is responsible for 80% of the "late hit" and "behavioral" penalties.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, Dantonio has been there for how long?
Basketball junkies: Mitch McGary deciding next week supposedly (ESPN) between Florida, Duke, and Michigan. He dropped Maryland, and UNC picked up another commitment.
ReplyDeleteVisitors' list for homecoming:2013 quarterback commit Shane Morris (Warren, Mich./De La Salle)
ReplyDelete2013 linebacker Karon Poole (Cincinnati/Winton Woods), brother of Wolverines LB Antonio Poole
2013 DE has Michigan on his mind
ReplyDeleteLuke Maclean has drawn comparisons to current Wolverines defensive end Craig Roh.ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Grand Blanc (Mich.) High School is typically known for its offensive players, most notably 2009 Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram. But 2013 prospect Luke Maclean is turning heads on the defensive side of the ball.
"He's something we haven't had in a while, and that's a big-body guy," Grand Blanc coach Joe Delany said. "He has an excellent frame to him, and he's an excellent worker. We have to kick him out of the weight room."
Maclean is a student of the game. His work ethic in the weight room is matched by his motivation in the film room.
Benji,
ReplyDeleteYou said on twitter that WR Jehu Chesson is visiting this weekend if he does attend the game is there a chance he may commit? And I do not know a whole lot about his kid just that he is a 3 star player and he is 6-3/175. I have not seen any video of this kid. Is he a diamond in the ruff or UM will take him because they need a WR? And if he does commit what does this do for Darboh and Payton?
Did anyone hear that Jordan Payton commited?
ReplyDeleteWill,
ReplyDeleteI don't believe he has commited yet. I heard a rumor he my wait til the Army all-star game? So who knows. I do hope he goes blue. If Stanford beats up ND in a couple of weeks that may help UM.
I think that sports bookmakers and I knew that he was going to UM, it was not a surprise for us after we knew how he is
