Kyle Dodson to Wisconsin

Three star OT Kyle Dodson has committed to Wisconsin this week, just one day after receiving an offer from his childhood team, the Ohio State Buckeyes. This is pretty surprising, as I (and apparently many Buckeyes) was of the opinion that an OSU offer would secure his commitment to the Scarlet and Gray.

However, at 6'5 and 315lbs, he'll certainly fit in at Wisconsin! The Badgers recent success in sending OL to the NFL was probably the deal clincher here. Funnily enough, Michigan came in second place in Dodson's recruitment, which should further anger OSU fans.

Dodson is a very good prospect, and fits what Michigan wants on the O-Line, but his commitment to the Badgers isn't a major blow given the position that UM is in for many other good OL.

  1. Their 5th commit and they already have more 4 stars than in all of last years class. Wisco is looking strong.

  2. Does anyone have ESPN Insider? Theres an article on the Michigan Football homepage about possible commits this week but I dont have a subscription. Any insight Benji?

  3. It's not predicting commitments, just saying that we have a lot of visitors at the moment.

  4. The freep says that Garmon visited Monday. Peat is visiting this week (today?). Stanford and Washington could come this weekend. Diamond will stop by sometime this week. And Chris Muller could visit this week. Does anyone know if we are supposed to get any other visits this week? And what are the chances that any of these guys commit while visiting?

  5. ESPN is useless. Says Andrus Peat and many others are visiting, lol.

  6. And to add a little more they're fully referencing the freep article mark talked about.

  7. Andrus Peat is visiting, just not today. As discussed previously on the blog, it will be this weekend, or early next week.

  8. Anybody get the lowdown on that Ondre Pipkins tweet that was the subject on an article on Scout? He supposedly made a reference to Michigan's recruiting class and 17 commits. Perhaps he's including himself. I've been predicting a Pipkins commit and hoping it's happening soon. I'm also optimistic about Diamond and Wormley in the near future.

  9. Chris Muller will visit, Rivals has him in the top 100, Scout lists him as a 3 star, lol. I wish even 2 of these services could agree on anyone. I usually agree with 247, but none of them even come close to a consensus.

  10. Here's that tweet by the way:

4-star DT Ondre Pipkins, the next @LaMarrWoodley RT @PeeWee9456 michigan has 17 commits hmm nice for the good ol' Maize and Blue #stacked

  11. basically the consensus is that michigan does have 17 commits 16 in 2012 and 1 in 2013...the other view is he's just having fun with his recruitment b/c he is friends with d. arnett, and he loved to have fun messing with people. and there are a few people who think he will commit so he's #17. only ondre knows so those are the 3 trends on the board.

  12. any truth to the gunner kiel rumor that he's down to michigan and indiana. blowing up on scout and mgoblog but feels a bit far fetched.

  13. Someone just asked me this Twitter, was it you?

Either way, I can write a longer, more detailed answer here.

Personally I don't think he's down to just those two schools, although those two might be the favorites. Basically if Kiel decides that he wants to stay close to home, it'll be Michigan or Indiana, and with the Hoosiers only 40 miles away from his home, I'd guess they might get the nod. Plus he'd be a hero in the state for staying home and playing for a not-so-great team.
Oklahoma has apparently offered a few QBs recently, so maybe they aren't feeling confident, but I think Alabama is still a major player in his recruitment. So it's probably still more than a UM-IU battle.

If I had to call it right now, I'd pick Indiana, which sounds crazy given how bad they've been recently. But they've got a new coach who had a great offense at Oklahoma, so there is good reason to believe that IU might be the pick.

  14. Might do a whole post for that later actually

  15. Yeah, I wouldn't start believing the Kiel rumor until he takes another visit to a2.

  16. I know the with Tressel and Pryor gone and the NCAA hammer is getting ready to drop on OSU but is there anything else that would make a couple of life long buckeye fans run from your program? Is there something there not telling us?
