Two big visitors this weekend

There will be at least two ESPNU150 prospects on campus this weekend, as scout.com's Allen Trieu has said that the Cincinnati Taft duo (aka Dwayne Stanford and Adolphus Washington) will be visiting.

I think this is the first visit for both of them to campus this year, and you can bet that Brady Hoke and co will roll out the red carpet for arguably two of the highest players on their board. If the visit goes well, Michigan could/should be the leader for both, although with late decisions planned, there's still a long way to go.

  1. Benji, I hope they do come to 2A this weekend. Is the weather going to be nice there this weekend? The big house always looks better in the sun then rain. I am sure the coaching staff will roll out the red carpet for them.

  2. Stanford said in an interview he could commit at anytime if he feels it is right. We get him in the fold and it is just a matter of time for the big man.

  3. weather for a2 is partly cloudy friday and saturday and chance of t-storms on sunday. And I have espn insider if anybody needs any information

  4. Is Michigan still pursuing Sheldon Day? It seems like I haven't heard a thing about him in a while.

  5. Pipkins really became the big fish on the d line but sheldon is still in the mix.

  6. On a side note, it's incredible just how pathetic the MSU message boards are. They actually have one thread up right now in which they seemingly just post pictures of Dantonio.

  7. I particularly like how grown up they are with the hurling of insults about Hoke's size. I read alot of blogs and hate it when some UofM fans seemingly stoop. For the most part I find we and Notre Dame are the best behaved. I won't bother slamming others but if you ever get bored go over to 247 and check them out.

  8. Benji,
Yuri Wright and Noah Spence are two elite prospects that have recently stated that michigan is either in their top group (Wright) or still very much in consideration (Spence) Are these guys that if they decide Michigan we'll figure out away to get them in or is there actually a chance that in the rush to sign guys like Eric Olson we leave out what could be our best recruit. Not trying to come across as dissatisfied with what is obviously a good start to recruiting, but some of what were doing just does not make sense, at least considering the information we have (maybe the coaches have more). With 10 spots left were legitimately in on about 15 top prospects. Isn't it time to slow it down and start pulling offers to uncommitted prospects.

  9. I think the coaches really want good athletes but having good character is almost more important to Hoke and crew. And I like that.

  10. would you really rather have allen gant or eric olson than noah spence and yuri wright who have no known character concerns.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree with you jonah.and you never know which kids have character issues until they get on campus or it somehow gets public.Allen gant may be hiding stuff from us..who really knows

  12. Lol Allen Gant isn't hiding anything, he's a great kid.

Noah Spence and Yuri Wright might give Michigan a visit, but it's going to be extremely tough to secure a commitment from either. Spence is the #3 player in the nation (I think?)!

I think UM would certainly try to do anything possible to get them in the class, as long as it doesn't negatively effect other commits or break any recruiting rules.

  13. I think it's awesome they're coming. I've read Jordan Diamond and Andrus Peat will be visiting the same camp. It would be awesome for all 4 of those guys to get leaned on by the Michigan staff and other recruits together.

  14. Benji, I think it may be time for a new poll.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I know gant isn't hiding anything just an example lol

  16. Roll out the red carpet? I think you mean the blue and maize carpet!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree with @Rstj, a new poll would be nice. I've got a few ideas: how many espnu 150 players will we end up with, what our class rank will be, or what we think the O$U sanctions could be.

    @maize
A maize and blue carpet would be awesome.

  18. That is a good idea on the carpet. I shouls have thought of it.

  19. If the worst mistake a staff makes is securing too many verbals early on, especially when it results in a currently ranked top 5 recruiting class, I'm willing to consider forgiving the transgression.

Even if it means missing out on higher ranked players later on. There is something to be said for, not just the verbal act, but the concept of commitment.

A great post on MGoBlog today discussed 3 stars, and how other programs have excelled in uncovering gems. I'll take the gems, and risk missing out on a super star every blue moon. I'd prefer to skip the hat-shell game travesty, altogether. But if a spot remains for a 5 star, I'm willing to suffer through it, begrudgingly.

I can see a kid waiting until signing day if his desired program is in a state of coaching uncertainty. Other than that, I view the late decision makers as potential/probable immature prima donnas.

But then again, I'm just an old arse-hole!

  20. I have started reading this blog the past couple weeks and absolutely love the information, knowledgeable fans and commentary. I also have had concerns about filling up the class too soon w/o giving due time to some more of these "more acclaimed" athletes. One thought though: Terrelle Pryor. Is he the type of privileged, holier-than-thou type of kid we want? I think all of us can agree that in hindsight none of us are upset he picked that state down south instead of our great team. Granted, many of the upper tier 4-star and 5-star's are most likely not like that, but many of the heralded ones can have the entitlement problems. Also, going WAAAY back, I remember Kelly Baraka was a top-ranked RB who never saw the field due to problems. Like most will say, recruiting is not an exact science.

  21. Man, my mock board is starting to look sketchier about the last top commits. I still feel great about kids like Pipkins and Diamond and Washing-ford but we're getting looks from so many top kids and the last 3 or 4 spots are starting to look like big time tossups. This is awesome.

  22. ok what I am about to post has been said over and over again but here is what we end up with our last 10 slots realistically

*QB* 0- none do not hate me for this but i don't see us winning the services of a high caliber QB and i don't see the point in wasting a scholarship.... "but d-Rich we need a Qb for every year what if all 3(!) qbs get hurt." We will be fine. dont give me that but but but once Denard is gone we will have two scholarship QBs until shane gets here. ok point taken but even if after drob is gone and Gardner and Bellamy were to get hurt we will be sending a frosh out there to be our qb...remember those days I rather take a gamble here fellas. If it comes down to nitty gritty we can send one of our practice Qb's out there..much rather see one of them then another frosh.

*RB/FB 1*- We "could win" Dunns services is Ohiot st. gets ass packed by NCAA, but if we do not get him we can easily get Fatu or the kid from Idaho. And since we are switching to manball we may be need another FB MCloggan (sp?) is set to garduate. So no worries if Dunn sticks with OSU because we have two very talented freshman coming in any how. and with a need for a true FB is higher need then landing a recruit just to rub it in OSU face

  23. *WR* 2- Stanford If we can get shane morris on campus the day of his visit that would be perfect they are already creating a bond and he seems very excited / anxious to visit the Big House so having Morris there would help tremendously. I am also a strong believer that Burbridges grades are over blown he has all summer and all next year to get his thumbs out of his ass, and with what looks like early playing time and playing with friends and a highly touted QB (morris... which their teams have played fyi so they both can see each others potential) i believe we will land both

    ReplyDelete
  24. *OT 2*- is that a "Diamond" in your pocket or are you just happy to be a Wolverine?
He is the least worried recruit i am about acquiring. so I'm going to leave it at that

My other OT i believe we will get is Paul thurston i say we will take him over Banner because it seems as if Thurston has a solid relationship with the staff and a quote straight from the horses mouth "I know Michigan, they're a big time program and the scholarship offers aren't going to be around forever. I thought it would be best to get over there and when things heat up I'll have already seen them and know what they're about." he also goes on to say he wants to have his decision done by Julyish...which works perfectly for us and him. and he recognizes we are putting together a solid OL.

    *OG 1*- Isaac Seumalo
    (4* Ht:6'3"
    Wt:280 lbs
    GPA:3.96)
all thought he hasn't been offered, he has been (and latest commit Erik Magnuson) very vocal about wanting to play together with Erik Magnuson. These two aren't just facebook friends, apparently they have been friends for some time. Magnuson has been talking to Hoke about getting him an offer ( Source Mgoblog.com article with Magnuson) His GPA is great and with what we know about Magnuson and wanting to recruit i think this will work out for us.

*DT 1*- I know i know just one DT blah blah blah, shoot me. Needles to say i think we pick up Pipkins. He has recently taken notice in how "#stacked" our team is becoming and i think he wants in on it, not only that but i believe from what i have read (source Pipkins twitter and his friends twitter) is he wants to be able to play infront of his dad ( no knock on his mother) but his mother seems more finacially off then his dad, where as mom would have the money to move back to michigan or drive to all the games his dad might not be able to travel as far. And if im not mistaken his grand mother is quite elderly and would love nothing more to play infront of her while he has the time. (plus his mother and grand mother seem very animate about wanting to live closer to one another)

*DE 2*- Wormely. nuff said. but but but d-rich his jr season sucked... ok? and? Deanrd dominated the first part of the season because no one knew how to stop him... same thing happened with Wormely...SOPH season..rips it up...JR season everyone knew what to expect. and this is where the "lack or will" to play comes from...the kid just needs to add more moves to what he has instead of coming at an opponent the same way he does every other guy. Great kid great athlete he will do well with Mattison.

Adolfus Washington- regardless of what happens at OSU i believe once he is in the presence of Mattison he will be gravitated to learning from someone with such a great resume, and then he will look over at Stanford and see this is where they belong. This isnt wishful thinking, i honestly believe after this weekend they will be captivated.

*S 1* Jarodd Wilson. Ricky Powers. Boom.

and this leaves us with ONE spot open for a total of 26. i believe this will be reserved for a 5* of some sorts, whether it be a OSU de-commit or someone along the line of NOah Spence or other stretches

i believe that we WILL land all of the following, its just a matter of who the HIGH END ELITE will be.

    BEnji and friends...have at it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have little doubt that we could land Burbridge if he qualifies, but this is a big if. There were rumors a couple months ago that he had to improve his grades just to qualify for his senior year of high school, let alone get into college.
Plus, his academic situation won't be resolved for a very long time, by which time the class might already be full. I think he's a slightly better prospect than Stanford, but Dwayne might be more likely to end up in the class.

The rest of that list seems fine, but I still think they'll find a guy at QB that they like enough to spend a scholarship on.

    ReplyDelete
  26. That man might be Devin Fuller. He has stated that he wants to visit us in the Summer. He may be another one to watch as well as Appleby.

  27. D-Rich-

    Very nice, indeed!

I agree with most of your points. Particularly the one about no QB unless it's Kiel.

Also, it would not surprise me if they do not take a RB. If no elite TB commits, they may use the spot elsewhere. I believe they are already envisioning using someone previously or currently committed as a TE or LB as a FB.

If they find someone who they believe is natural FB, they will probably pull the trigger. If not, it seems they now have a plethora of potential shape shifters for the position.

Anyone know how many RB offers are hanging out there?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I know Bolden was recruited to be a LB, but you can't tell me he could not be a great FB!!!!

And, he's a kid who try punting, if it got him into the fight!!!

    Moxy! Love that kid's quotes!!

  29. Kieth Marshall!!! C'mon Benji, all aboard the Kieth Marshall bandwagon!!! lol, we have a decent shot with Greg Garmon but the coaches haven't been going after too many of the others. Maybe they could make a push for Wes Brown (the American one,) and Sione Houma looks great to me. I would be in no way disappointed if he committed to this class. Jordan Diamond and friends on campus 2day!!! Wooh!!!

  30. Hey Benji,

Thanks for everything you do! You spend a lot of your time and patience on this blog updating and answering questions! I check your blog everyday to get up to date info on recruiting news cause it's one of the best! I just want to thank you!

I saw on Tomvh twitter that he retweeted Jordan diamonds tweet saying he is on his way up to AA now with some teammates!! (Hopefully a commit today) Do you have any insight on who the other teammates are??

    Thanks again!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. According to TomVH's interview with Dwayne today we can see that Washington isn't coming this weekend cause he will be at kentucky

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah I don't know why there accepting all these commits that are curently ranked #6 nationaly? I realy wish we wernt taking commitments from the players our coaching staff extended offers to. I don't think we shouldve taking anybody but TR so far, he's our highest ranked recruit. We should just save all our schollys for last minute deciders. 10 isn't enough.

If you think you know better than an NFL coach like mattison, than your just plain ignorant. There's more years experience in that staff than most of you are old. I'm just glad there in charge, & not these retards who wanna hold out for every "top ranked player".

It's rare a team pulls in 2 or 3 5* recruits in a single year, let alone 10, it don't happen. All we have to save is 2 or 3 not 10 you dueche bags!!

    Go blue!!
