Wayne Morgan update #2

Well some guy on MGoBlog has just told everyone about the Wayne Morgan situation here. The information is from GoBlueWolverine (scout.com).

Wayne was of course the silent commit from a couple weeks back, as many of you had guessed, so it seems strange to part ways. But they have already got two CBs committed, so they don't need a third; they need a FS instead, and Jarrod Wilson seems to be the guy they want. He'll now be added to the Ideal class instead of Morgan.

Edit: Not really sure why they parted ways, or even who's choice it was. It might be because the Standifer commit gave them 2 CBs, but Morgan could potentially play FS in college. But then again, UM was recruiting him for CB. Weird situation!

  1. Weird indeed, maybe we should have seen it coming. All of his videos were him playing man-to-man coverage as a CB. If Wilson happens to not work out as well Sebastian Smith is still waiting for offers. We have plenty of excellent prospects.

  2. Did Wilson visit UM this week?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Morgan looks better than Standifer i really dont get why they accepted the offer if they knew what was coming.

    ReplyDelete
  4. because standifer is taller and more physical, and only loses a little sleep, and is a ball hawk. Same as TR, same with Wilson. The coaching staff has a plan for sure... big lineman, stud linebackers, and playmakers in the secondary. Standifer compliments TR much better than morgan does, and Wilson compliments Gant. You gotta trust the coaching staff and not the "star" rankings.

  5. Speed not sleep

  6. They accepted because they had room for Standifer and Morgan. Morgan is good and could play CB or S for us. He's a kid that wants Michigan or wanted it. For whatever reason, his coaaches have had him reconsider. If he committed today they'd still take him. We lose a good ball player. He misses out on AA and all the good that goes with it. Wish him luck and know that our coaches will find another talent. Richardson and Standifer are both good commits.

  7. our michigan coaches backed off on him earlier this morning... and put all there interest into jarrod wilson. They wanted morgan as a CB, once standifer commited they lost interest in morgan and will look for a different FS who fits what they want. I believe that it's more our doing pushing him away than it was him not being ready to decide

  8. This is working out perfectly. instead of having guys hopefully work out as safties( Standifer and Morgan), we can have true safties back there. Having T-Rich adn Standifer play thier natural corner positions and Hopefully Wilson and Gant playing safties. Wilson is a ball-hawk like one Ed Reed

    ReplyDelete
  9. I am not sure im sold on Gant yet and still think he was offered because of his family name and not his ability on the field

    ReplyDelete
  10. His freshman and sophomore year he was considered the number 1 prospect in his class for all ohio kids.. that includes dunn, wormley, stanford, washington etc all the huge name 4 stars and 5 stars.. injuries slow you down, and you don't need to be a speedster to be a SS in the big ten.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Im a believer in Brady Hoke but I would have made room for morgan at the expense of Jarrod Wilson regardless of the position standifer or morgan plays

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wilson had 10 inteceptions and took back 5 for TD'S. T-Rich and Standifer each had over 6 ints, and Gant is supposed to be a hard hitter. "No Fly Zone"

    ReplyDelete
  13. T rich had 8 and standifer had 9... not to mention countess/taylor/furman/robinson... we have some talent in the secondary in the near future, talented LBs, we just need some meat up front. Pipkins is already 320, i want this kid more than any other recruit. I want him even more so than i want dunn, pipkins is going to be a stud.

  14. unrelated but have a laugh at Tressel's expense

  15. Per just about every site there is out there. Aziz Shittu has opened his recruitment back up. If everyone read a little while back that our coaches visited him and he said he wanted to take a visit to Michigan and see what that was all about. In my opinion step one is over now we need to get him to Ann Arbor and reel this big fish in. He, Pipkins, and Day would be an ungodly DL.

    ReplyDelete
  16. This is what I read, after Morgan silent committed the Michigan coaches were still pursuing other DB options. Morgan and his coaches didn't like that. Michigan cooled off on Morgan then Morgan cooled off on Michigan. Michigan is in Wilson's top 3 along with ND and PSU after his visit to Michigan on Monday which "blew him away"

    ReplyDelete
  17. @ Dave

I know this is late but yes Wilson did visit this week on Tuesday..

Call it a coincidence if you like But by all accounts Morgan was going to announce for us on the 1st or 2nd... Jarrod Wilson visits on the 31st then all of a sudden we hear that we are cooling on Wayne Morgan ??? Seems to me like Jarrod Wilson stole his spot ..You dont give up on a talent like WM unless you have a talent like JW waiting in the wings ,Then again thats just my opinion

  18. Benji or anybody keeping score:

Does anybody have a list of impending visits....who and when? Thanks

  19. Getting these kids on campus is a game changer. When Jarron Jones and Aziz Shittu both visit then things will look very good indeed. Elijah Shumate has us in his top 5 without a visit. The Bosco Prep 4 want to go together but Carroo is less interested in a Michigan visit than his 3 defensive teammates apparently. Get them on campus!!!

  20. The SEC coaches received some bad news today they lowered there signee from 28 to 25 that really going to hurt them.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Any news on that silent commit?? We really are going to have to meet for a beer at the game. :)

    Benji,
What are the odds now that maybe things slow down a little bit as far as committments go. I have to think that this rush has been a little out of the ordinary:

    As of June 1:
    2011 - 14commits
    2010 - 4 commits
    2009 - 11 commits
    2008 - 4 commits
    2007 - 4 commits
    2006 - 5 commits
    2005 - 2 commits
    2004 - 5 commits
    2003 - 2 commits
    2002 - 0 commits

  22. Just a story to read. It's dated but it makes one wonder. Can you still go to OSU on a football schollie for 6 academic quarters, earn 57 credits and transfer to another school only to find out that you've earned 17 transerable credits. Of interest is his course load:

"But his coursework included four credits for playing football, three for Tressel's Coaching Football class, 10 for remedial reading, 10 for remedial math and three for Issues Affecting Student Athletes"

Please tell me we don't offer these courses!!!!

Kudos to Sammy Maldonado and Coach Friedgen for their parts.

  23. Anybody know how many scholarships we have available now and how many are expected by signing day??

    ReplyDelete
  24. @go blue north

Even though its from 2004, it's a good story and it's a shame Friedgen lost his job at Maryland because of some idiot AD. Anyway I don't know about the Michigan football team doing something like this but their test scores for the APR test were sub par at best. Hopefully Hoke can fix this up before it becomes a big problem.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Benji. Are there any recruits visiting this weekend

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Mark
Our APR could take a further hit under the first year of Hoke too just because it's a blanket score that doesn't distinguish between transfers out and failure-to-graduate. Every kid that leaves before graduating counts against the APR a bit. A low APR penalty can be appealed, fortunately.

  27. Mark/Michael,

You've peaked my curiosity....how are we academically. Do you have a link to something I can look at.

I guess I'd rather have one of the kids get a B-or C+ in nuclear physics than an A+ in "Tressel's Coaching Football Class"

    ReplyDelete
  28. Growing up in Columbus, I always heard about some of the courses football players took: basket weaving, ceramics, athletic development....need i say more. Its always been a joke, and its bull shit about Pryor's attorney saying the cars are legal, I saw him driving in cars(none of them mentioned in the testimony) and it is known that they get free rides, such bullshit that the lawyer is covering this shit up...he is getting paid by the boosters as well!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. CP,
I can't see truth or anything like it ever happening where OSU is concerned. People talk and Buckeye fans want them "Dead". I can't believe that so many of their blogging fans continue to deny any wrongdoing, outwardly suggest just "shutting up" and encourage the endless cover-up.
I was so disappointed with what little came out in the SI article because I have to believe that far worse goes on down there and nobody talks about it. I can't believe how blindly people down there blow their Bucknuts.
As for TP's lawyer....he just sounds like scum. He is hoping that by making public statements, such statements will become the truth. I'm really not a hater..... I believe in giving credit where it's due but I have to admit that I'm hoping for more bad news for their program.

  30. Have faith, there's got to be more. There just has to, otherwise this is the biggest troll prick tease ever.

  32. I was just wondering who is the best player from college that was a 2 star player or lower? Does anybody know?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ondre Pipkins had a chat on Rivals the other day and a few Michigan fans sent in some questions that got answered...

1 that struck me as odd was when he was asked " Have any of the current Michigan recruits been in contact with him " and he answered NO...

We need to do a full court press on this guy we need to tell all our commits to friend him on twitter and Facebook and start talking up Michigan and talking to him about this super class we are trying to get ... So whoever has a twitter and is friends with Michigan commits or follows them or whatever its called relay them his twitter name PeeWee9456

    ReplyDelete
  34. He is friends with a lot of the current commits and it doesnt seem like they contact each other a lot(that we can see). I do feel like it is on them to sell michigan to him till he can get up ther to see all the awesome things the campus and university have to offer

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was just looking at the schedule for next year and there is a good chance Michigan can go 9-3 or even 10-2. ND,MSU,Neb and OSU are the tough ones but I think they can win at least 2 of these games. What to you guys think? And who can we reach out to about reaching out to other kids about commiting?

    ReplyDelete
  36. @Jer89 recently Tom Lemming made a list of guys every school missed on and it included Barry Sanders, Drew Breese, Brett Favre, and Randy Moss. Antonio Gates didn't get a college football scholarship, he played basketball instead. This was before star ratings but Barry Sanders literally went to every school in America and could not earn a scholarship. Northwestern said "no thanks" and Oklahoma State had missed on every player they targeted and had to throw together an emergency class with castoffs and gave him a scholarship. He didn't play for 2 years there. His junior year is considered the best year any player ever had and he skipped his senior season.

    ReplyDelete
  37. My mistake, I always mix up Randy Moss and TO. Every single time. Terrell Owens got passed up by everyone except Tennessee-Chattanooga.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @ Jer89

I was thinking the same ...Our defense WILL be WAY better and we can score so im seeing a very good season

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jer89

About the best 2 star player

Although probably not the best, have a look at Dan LeFevour from Central Michigan. I know he's a MAC QB but his numbers are amazing. Would he be that good in a better conference??? Would he be any better with better players around him???

A really, really good 2 star!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Gunner Keil is announcing in 10 days... Im not to worried about him or any other QB ... We have more pressing needs

    ReplyDelete
  41. We play a lot of home games this season, so I was thinking if we have most of our class filled by the time the season starts does that mean will be looking at a lot less big time official visits from prospects not already commited to the university? Guys from out west like banner and simmons want to take officials but what happens if we are have most of our scholarships taken up?

Seems like a Catch 22 in the fact that we could have to turn away guys that want to be michigan men to try and save spots for big name recruits that wont decide till late in the process

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ben Rothlisberger and Tony Romo played for lowly Miami-Ohio and Eastern-Illinois respectively.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Jer89

On a local note and again not superstars but nice 2 star surprises:

    #1 Patrick Omameh

and #2 but yet to step onto the field at the Big House.....yes, potentially a gift from the heavens. Matt Wile. We went 4-14 on field goal attempts last year. This guy could be a rock star just by showing up!!!! He puts the ball through the uprights on kickoffs. I'm at the Big House every Saturday and I have a feeling that when he steps onto the field and makes good on his first FGA the fans will go wild.

    Okay so I'm embellishing!

  44. Logan,

Don't know if you saw the stats that I posted about commits by June 1st over the last decade but what we're seeing now is almost unprecedented. I think things will slow down a bit now.....especially for our OL commits. We may end up getting some lesser commits that want to secure a scholarship which means we will have to turn away some of our wish list. We may hold out for our wishlist and hope for the best. We just saw the same run on scollies by some DBs. At least in one case we may not have got the most bang for our buck. This is where trusting the coaches comes in. What we should hope for is a good early commit, maybe from Magnuson and then hope that others follow suit. A few of us have already said this about next year....we can probably expect fewer offers going out so early.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Go blue north, I have seen Lefevour he is good and would have played well at a bigger school.
I have not heard of Patrick Omameh?

Logan, I think Hoke is keeping scholarships in his back pocket for the big time recruits.

Michael, Big Ben is a good one not so sure on Tony.

    ReplyDelete
  46. In my picks, I have us at 9-3 with losses to Ohio State, Nebraska and Michigan State.....BUT then I give one to either Iowa or Notre Dame (as much as I hate to and I see us ending at 8-4). Too many variables changing all at once. Coaching styles, playing styles, a vastly improved defence (because it couldn't get worse or stay the same), being able to go for 3 instead of turning it over on downs. Honeslty....looking more forward to 2012.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I am thinking things will slow down and Hoke will start telling guys to slow down there decisions or tell the diamonds, Pipkins and other that are high on Michigan list to hurry up. Not really sure what Hoke will do if he fills up on the the guys loewer on his list?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jer89,

Patrick, like I said is no superstar. This will be his second year starting at Right Guard. He wasn't highly touted as a recruit (only one other Big Ten offer, MSU). This kid shows up every Saturday!!! I'm the first to admit....I look at rankings....they are generally a good indicator but every now and then you get a nice surprise.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think Michigan can beat Iowa and MSU. The others will be tough like ND,Neb and OSU. But Neb and OSU are home games and OSU may not have all of there starters but they will be playing with a purpose this year. I don't see how the D can be any worse then last year. Maybe the same but not worse.I will tell you this they will play hard on D this year!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lowly Miami Ohio? Ummm, Shembechler and Moeller got there starts at Miami. Plus, Miami won their bowl game this year; Michigan did not.

As a Michigan fan first, I still must represent as a RedHawk alum.

Can't wait for fall ball to start.

  57. Can we start calling michigan linebacker U? With all these great linebacker recruits 2011 and 2012 and I'll bet that there is more linebackers from michigan in the nfl than there is from Miami. They call themselves Linebacker U and all they really have is ray lewis, dan morgan and "the Rock". We have Dhani Jones, Shantee Orr, Ian Gold, David Harris Lamarr Woodley a converted once Linebacker, Shawn Crable, Larry Foote, Sam Sword, Jarrett Irons, Prescott Burgess, Erick Anderson, Chris Graham, and Jonas Mouton, if I missed any please help me out

    ReplyDelete
  58. We absolutely can. Not just because we've produced so many, but mainly because we've produced more than any school anywhere. A Michigan coach invented the Linebacker position.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Professor A, absolutely lowly Miami-Ohio. Of course lowly can be misconstrued as demeaning, but it is not. Lowly means humble, lacking in stature, or status. Lowly is a virtue. Far better to be underrated.

  60. Thanks, didn't know that
