Dan Gibbs to walk on at UM

2012 in state offensive lineman Dan Gibbs has chosen to walk on at Michigan over scholarship offers from Ball St, Eastern Michigan and some ivy league schools. This is a nice get for UM as it takes a bit of pressure off the Kozan decision and doesn't cost us a scholarship.

Gibbs is a three star prospect on scout.com, which is good for a walk on. He's a very smart guy, so he'll have every chance to excel on and off the field at Michigan.

  1. Wasn't Gibbs everyone thought was a lock to msu?

    1. I think you're thinking of 2013 OT Riley Norman.

  2. Gibbs could be one of those guys that by his junior or senior year could be a stud. He's a big boy, this is another quiet get for UM. GO BLUE!!!

  3. Is Gibbs more a tackle or a guard?

  5. I'd like us to get Vernon Hargreaves in this class but he has a really good list.. This kid can flat out play.. He's in the 2013 class..

  6. It's the kids that want to come that make the biggest difference. This kid is going to be a monster

  7. This is the type of kid you just have to cheer for. He LOVES Michigan and passed up scholarships at other schools to wear the Maize 'n' Blue and winged helmet. He may not see a ton of snaps in his career and probably never play a down after college, but he will be a leader on and off the field.

  8. I am very happy to get Dan Gibbs. When it's all said and done I hope he gets a scholarship.

Khalid Hill: I watched his film alot of upside to him. Fast, good hands ran nice routes as well. And I liked him on defence too. I could see him playing WR and TE.

  9. UM has offered three QBs for 2013 Shane Morris(committed), Kevin Olsen and Riley Ferguson. I watched film on both Olsen and Ferguson and both of these guys are good. Olsen has a very nice touch on the ball. I hope UM lands one of these two guys.

    1. I think Michigan will back off and not recruit these guys no need for to many QBs. TomVH doesn't think we will go after another 2013 QB

    2. UM will take 2 QBs in this class. Because they will not find out if DG gets his med. redshirt til his senior year.

    3. I agree that a 2nd QB will be taken. Michigan probably will not get a top player since they would be a longshot to beat out Morris. I think another Russell Bellomy-type (mid-3 star, with potential) will be offered and taken, because depth is desperately needed. Heading into 2014, Gardner will most likely be gone, Bellomy will be a RS Jr and Shane Morris either a RS Fr or a Sophomore. Morris and Bellomy will be duking it out for the starting job that year and a third QB will be needed for depth and Michigan will probably not get an elite QB the year after Morris comes but probably another high 3-low 4 star type of QB. Elite guys want playing time.

  10. I'm not sure why we would take 2 qb's in the class?? Shouldn't need more than 1 per year, giving you 4-5 on the roster. If you have to go past 3rd string, that's bad, might as well throw a WR at QB at that point.

  11. I personally, am a huge fan of Dan Gibbs, and am very happy he's coming to Michigan. He brings size and nastiness plus he WANTS to be at Michigan. Even if he is on the look squad he will teach our 1st defense about physicality in the trenches. If he improves his knee bend and lower body strength he could be a great story one day. but realistically, a great add to the team for intangible value. as well as brings size and toughness.

also, lets not forget that Mario Ojemudia said that Dan Gibbs was the best OL he played against all season! score!

  15. Treadwell and Dukes would be a great haul at WR this year...

  16. I personally think we need to recruit 3 WR's this year. I think we need two out of Treadwell, Ateman, and Dukes because of their height. Just one out of Dukes and James Quick as a smaller quicker receiver. Not sure what position Jourdin Lewis plays Scout has him down at CB/WR and 5"8. The kids highlights are awesome and he can play just hope he grows would rather have him at CB. But having a bunch of CB's 5"10 and under is gonna eventually hurt us. We need at least someone Standifer's size. That was what i was upset most about when he decommited the kid had great size. As for Dan Gibbs great pickup! Any kid that is smart, has heart, and is all Blue is a great addition in my eyes!

    1. I'm confused you refer to Dukes as a receiver we need because of his height. Then in the next sentence you say we need him or Quick because they are smaller quicker receivers?

    2. Jourdin Lewis will play CB at the next level. I really hope he commits to Michigan he is a great player

  17. From what I am reading, it sounds like if Kozan doesn't go blue then Gibbs will be quick to receive a scholarship after walk-on tryouts. Good for him, he's a real Michigan man from everything I'm reading. I love the size, LOVE the size we are starting to add to the o-line. The bigger, the more powerful, the better, and we can wear down d-lines. Bo would be proud! GO BLUE!!! If anyone wants a Norfleet commitment post, just go to an NFL site and read about Darren Sproles, I swear it's the same guy!

    1. I have been hearing from different sites that Norfleet is destined to be a slot receiver. Although he has excellent receiving skills, is our memory so quick to forget guys like Ray Rice (5'7), Emmitt Smith (5'9) and Barry Sanders (5'8)? Norfleet is obviously lighter, but he is also just turned 18. Give him thre to four years and he can crack 200lbs like these other guys and maybe still have the shiftiness. I love this guy as a RB! He isn't Tyrone Wheatley, but Jamie Morris was a little guy that was awesome. Norfleet will prove so many people wrong and like many of the little guys that get stereo-typed he will be playing with a major chip on his shoulder throughout his career. He may be the guy that takes the mantle from Toussaint after 2013. AND don't forget the college game and the NFL are completely different. Darren Sproles wasn't the same Darren Sproles that we saw with the Chargers and now the Saints. At K-State he led the NCAA in rushing his senior season. Little guys with big hearts (Mike Hart) can be college legends! I think I just convinced myself that I have a man crush on Dennis Norfleet. The kid's a baller! Oh, and he will be awesome returning kicks too. Early 2012 prediction: Hoke and Borges see too much explosiveness in Norfleet and he does not redshirt.

  18. I just read on bleacher report the "projected" class of 2013 for that team in Ohio and they think dymonte thomas will flip to them! Their fans are so clueless, he loves michigan. They also think the wil get Tulley-Thomas and Robert Foster! Even a osu fan said he thought Tulley-Thomas was Ann abour bound. All osu fans live in a fantasy land. Also Shane Morris was #3 overall in b/r top 100 in 2013.

  19. I just watched Dan Gibbs film from Mgoblue. I like this kid even more. He finishes his blocks and more important he is MEAN. Don't get me wrong the coaches need to work on his foot work and his hands. But the upside on him out weights the downside.

I read on 24/7 sports message board UM maybe on commitment watch this weekend with WR Jaron Dukes. I also think a second TE will commit soon. Just a gut feeling on the TE.

  20. Never underestimate someone out to prove others wrong, especially someone with intelligence and a good work ethic. Sounds like Gibbs has both. I hope he ends up with a scholarship at some point and has himself a great career wearing Blue. Especially considering he is taking a risk by giving up a free education elsewhere. Some (unnamed) places have to pay kids above and beyond a scholarship to get them to go there. Good luck Dan!!!

  21. on Jaron Dukes...

" On whether or not Michigan is his favorite: "Michigan has always been my favorite school since I was a kid and to think I have a chance to play there; I am loving it. Most people don't get a chance to play for the school they want and thank God I have that chance". "

  24. I watched Dan's video before and just watched it again. I also just read the interview with Tremendous with him. I'm very impressed. There is something to be said for following your dreams. Out of all the 2012 recruits I think I have a new favorite.

    Do the flannel world proud.
