New Writer

Hello everyone, the MGoRecruit team has added another member to the blog today. The new writer is Brandon Brown. Heres a little background on Brandon:

"I was born in Tawas, Michigan in 1984 so that makes me 27 years old. I grew up in a really small, rural town in mid-Michigan. I was bred, born, and raised a die-hard Michigan fan. I went to a really small public school and played sports my whole life. I went on to college at Central Michigan University and studied to become a science/PE teacher and coach. I moved to South Carolina in 2007 in search of a job and landed it after 1 interview. I teach 7th grade science and coach wide receivers and defensive backs in football, and I am a head girls basketball coach."

Brandon will be our "film guy" who will be breaking down and evaluating recruits. He will give you in-depth analysis on recruits and it will hopefully give you a better understanding of what the recruit excels at, and areas that they could improve upon. With Brandon being a high school football coach, he has an "eye for talent" which should let you know that he knows what he's doing.

Everybody give him a follow at @CoachBrown3. Welcome him with warm, and open arms!

  15. Can we please get a KOZAN update. Something, anything at all will do. What color his socks are today or if he is ready to stop the suspense any time soon. If he wasn't the last recruit, I probably wouldn't care so god damn much.

  16. "Treadwell, Tuley-Tillman, and Joliet (IL) Academy RB Ty Isaac are in regular communication about their recruitments; they're considering all going to the same school and would like to visit Ann Arbor together. That would be one heck of a package deal."

This bodes well considering LTT is all but Blue and Isaac has no interest in MSU

    1. We said the same thing about Garnett. And look what happened there. I am sure the coaches will do everything they can to land him but anything can happen with a 18 year old.

      Delete
    2. I've heard nothing that says they are a package deal can you please reveal your source that states that? I know LTT is very high Michigan as per Scout interview. He has family in LP Michigan and his mother loves Michigan. Thanks

  17. As much as I liked Odoms, Roundtree and I love JR. He really saved a game or two this past season. I am looking forward to having taller playmaker at WR in the future. I want to see the 6'-5" 200 pound WR that can catch the ball and get in the endzone. I think UM has WR that can move the chains right now and that's important but I don't know if they will have the down field big playmaker next season. I hope I am wrong.

    1. I've been saying that for a year now. I wasn't overwhelmed by Diggs because he's 5'11-6'. I want that 6'3-6'5 guy who can fight for the ball. JR was able to fight, but he was only 6'1. Imagine what we could see if JR was 6'4? The last GREAT WR we had was Edwards 6'3 bout 200 when he was at Michigan... ring any bells? That's what we are missing in our passing game (that plus consistency!)

Darboh and Chesson are both in the 6'2-6'3 range, neither has the bulk yet, but that could certainly come

    2. I would really like to see Funchess and Gant play WR next season.

      Delete
    3. Funchess is an outstanding receiver. seriously. his game highlights from the international bowl are 5 star caliber.

also, keep in mind. soon, we are going to have Quarterbacks who can throw accurately. thus the jump ball will become less of a "game plan" and more of a fluke. like it should be. size of reciever plus accuracy of a QB is a lethal combination. when mixed with a huge o-line and a bruising backfield (shallman, rawls, houma, johnson) and a staunch Defense..well, you do the math.

      Delete
    4. Funchess is not fast enough to stay on the outside as a full-time WR and will likely redshirt. He will play a Jimmy Graham type role and play some inline TE, some H-Back and split out (especially near the redzone. He will be used to create mismatches. Gant will be play defense, unless he absolutely sucks on defense or if it becomes an emergency to move him. According to Gant, in his conversations with Mattison, he wants Gant to be another Kovacs, a hard-hitting in the box safety.

And for those that are SO eager to get these 6'4 - 6'5 WR's, my question is "Why?" Other than Randy Moss and Calvin Johnson (and this year DGB) how many receivers are that tall and actually produce? When WR are that big they often lack explosion. Moss,Johnson, and even guys like Brandon Marshall and AJ Green are freakish athletes that come along once 5-6 years and like we saw with DGB they are awfully hard to get.

Even Dukes, btw whom I would love to have in Blue, isn't even a consensus four star. Don't get me wrong, bigger receivers are what we are moving towards, but bigger than what in comparison? I think when we say we need bigger WR's we need bigger than the Gallons, Roundtrees and Dileos of the world. Darboh and Chesson are 6'2 and 6'3 repsectively and I would expect more of the same, with on occasion a bigger guy like Dukes. Dukes will be more the exception than the standard.

Playmakers come in all shapes and sizes, but most of the best ones come in between 6'0 and 6'3.

  18. Just read an old interview with Joe Bolden. he said ND turned him down because he wasn't big enough. He was listed at 6'3 230 lbs, they said they wanted a 6'4 LB. Seriously? A 6'4 LB? He's 6'3, not like hes 5'10 or something haha. Their loss

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. thats what ND's prototype size is for OLBs. keep in mind they play a 3-4 and take kids who would probably be a DE in a 4-3 and make them OLBs. ND said something about they want 6'4 250 OLBs, bolden is listed at 6'3 230??? so hes probably 6'2 and change. still not small but undersized by boss dogg brian kelly's standards.

still somewhat of a head scratcher because bolden is a great fit as an 3-4 ILB. oh well..

    1. I'm new to the site and excited to be following Michigan football recruiting. I'm from Southgate, Mich and I'm passionate about football. I've played for football for about 10 years from pop warner, high school, then on to the Marine Corps. Anyway, I've been reading much on this blog and follow it with great anticipation of the latest news and with that being said I too would like to know who is visiting this weekend and if we can expect a commit? Thanks very much and I look forward to participating on this blog. Go Blue!

  24. UM will have 10 visitors this weekend. Eight of them have offers and two are looking for offers and will most likely receive one this weekend. I hope they do and commit soon.

    Davon,
Will Taco, Butt and the Cass trio get offers and commit this weekend?

  25. I heard David Dawson is one of the visitors. He was just offered by Bama this week. He will get a face-to-face offer this week. Eventually he and Jourdan Lewis will go Blue.

    1. According to Rivals, Jourdan Lewis is high on Michigan only, the rest are "medium", this bodes well for us
