As per usual, not much is going on with Michigan recruiting at the moment, but here's a few quick notes on CFB in general.
- The talk about an LSU-Alabama rematch is really annoying me! LSU beat Alabama on Bama's home field, so why on earth do the Tide deserve another chance? If you can't beat them at home, in theory you shouldn't beat them on a neutral site. Unfortunately I think the way it plays out is that the rematch will happen, because Bama stayed so high in the polls. Personally I'd rather see Oregon get a rematch, because if they cut out the silly mistakes, their offense could easily put points up on the Tigers when healthy.
- Jordan Payton still hasn't committed anywhere, and the longer it goes on, the more worried I am that it won't be Michigan. Is he having doubts about leaving the West Coast? If so, Cal will probably come back into it, and that would worry me more than ND do right now. Also in WR recruiting news, Jehu Chesson has lined up the UM-OSU game as his official visit date.
- TE Ron Thompson committed to Syracuse yesterday, which is a real shame in my view. Thompson is arguably one of the most talented pass catching TE's in the country, but for unknown reasons it just didn't work out with Michigan. Best of luck to him at Syracuse.
I feel the same way as it being annonying. Alabama shouldn't get a rematch, one of the main reason it has been brought up is the media (espn). Does anyone feel like espn has blown up the SEC so much the last couple of years? Well it won't be long once their marriage is final (SEC on ESPN). I do hope oklahoma state & stanford go undefeated and bama gets the rematch, this will bring playoff at the end of year but hey, its brought up almost every year.
ReplyDeleteESPN freaking loves the SEC, we really need another conference's team to win the national title. I think either Oregon or Stanford has the best chance of beating LSU.
ReplyDeleteSam Webb just tweeted that Michigan just picked up a RB commit. Does anyone know who or have insider?????
ReplyDeleteIts drake johnson from ann arbor pioneer.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Michigan just got a commit from Drake Johnson...anyone know if hes any good? I guess Dunn wont be decommitting
ReplyDeleteMichigan has picked up a commitment from Ann Arbor running back Drake Johnson. Johnson had a big senior year and this is a new offer. Michigan is recruiting him as a running back.
ReplyDeleteWho is Drake Johnson? And where did he come from.
ReplyDeleteSupposedly he had a huge senior year...still a bit annoyed by this. Thought we had a great chance with Dunn and this means no Dunn for sure. Drake Johnson is rated a 2 star on Scout and only had an offer from Eastern Michigan. I hope the coaches know something we dont.
ReplyDeleteBenji,
ReplyDeleteThis kid has good size and speed from what Scout says. What do you think?
Im listening to Sam Webb...Drake Johnson just had 348 yards and a couple TDs in the playoffs this past weekend. Hes had 3 or 4 300 plus yard rushing games. He also has over 3500 yards rushing this season. Productive it looks like.
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't have more than 3500 yards rushing this season...he has 2757 (wow) on 327 carries. He also knows how to score with 36 td's this season. His first 2 playoff games he's gone for 33 carries for 228 yards and 3 tds followed by 36 carries for 348 yards and 4 tds. He's gone over 300 yards 3 times this year...2 games he had almost 400 yards with 30 carries for 394 yards and 6 tds. The very next week he ran for 22 carries for 395 yds and 5 tds. His video he looks pretty fast and SHIFTY on a couple of runs. He's only a 2 star (GASP!), but he's a hometown kid and loves U of M. There's a video up on scout...he looks pretty good. BTW provided he doesn't get held under 133 yards in the next playoff game, he'll own the Michigan high school rushing record. He looks like a really tough runner between the tackles and he seems to run with some attitude. Here's his video courtesy of scout.

Yes, all the rematch talk is getting annoying. There was all the talk about it BEFORE the game was played. Remember, when UM and OSU were 1 and 2 when they played, they were STILL 1 and 2 in the next AP poll when THEIR seasons were done. It was a 3 point win by OSU played AT OSU. Florida played one extra game that year because their conference championship game. They had the same record as UM and ranked 4th behind USC and UM, 2 and 3. USC loses, Florida wins their extra game and jumps over UM. I have to believe if UM had played a 13th game, regardless of championship game or not, they would've stayed ahead of Florida. All that shifting around for an SEC school to play in the championship game, and that was 5 years ago! There was no rematch that year. IF other teams finish undefeated, Standford or OK State, they should be higher than Bama regardless. If everyone else loses and Bama wins out, then fine, just as if they had dropped to 5 or 6, won and worked their way back up. If they win and other teams do too, no rematch
