Cass Tech gets a beating

Cass Tech high school in Detroit consistently produces good individual talent, but it looks like the team in general could be in for a down year if a 43-7 loss to Farmington Hills is anything to go by. Farmington Hills are a very good team, but that's still a bad result for a team with two Michigan commits.

Check out this detnews article for a recap of the game.

  1. Thanks to Mario. What a monster. RJS does not look like a high schooler. And 215 lbs. is an exaggeration.

  2. Apparently T-Rich made a couple nice plays but for the most part was owned by Burbige

    ReplyDelete
  3. burbridge had 3 catches for 52 ytards, 0 TDs

    Trich definitely held is own even though he was way undersized

    ReplyDelete
  4. Why is everyone saying burbridge owned TR and was the best player out there? Sorry stats dont lie he didnt even have a TD like DF and he didnt have as many yards as him either. Dont believe what you here believe the stats because they dont lie.

  5. RJS had a bad game? my friend was at that game and he said the announcer didn't even call out his name, maybe once or twice. that scares me a little.
    on the other hand, only the first game of the season. there's lots of play left to vitrify his talent. that goes for all prospects. RJS will shine and i believe that. like i believed the tigers would make it to the world series this season. lol. go Detroit tigers and verlander.

  6. I was not at the game, but MGoBlog was saying they ran away from RJS. That would explain the scarcity of his name on the PA.

  7. Whose favored to win State Title in the state of Michigan??

  8. who knows........ too many good teams out their. im not an expert on high school teams but i think Warren (Mich.) De Las Salle has a great shot. only because shane morris is on the team lol. he shined on his first game of season.

    is shane morris going to be the best quarterback next year? i haven't heard about any other quarterbacks but him.

  9. Getting away from this particular game, did anyone watch Joe Bolden play on Sunday on ESPN? I hope you guys were able to watch, because he is a BEAST. He's going to look really good in the winged helmet.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Riley Ferguson. Also Junior this year who also played in the Grid Iron along with Shane. They were the only Soph/Junior who participated. However, conses has it Shane Morris will be top QB. He was considered top 5 against The Seniors this year alone. One of the reasons (IMO) Gunner Kiel looked @ Indiana.

  11. I went to the game (live in FL). I posted earlier that he played multiple positions. Wouldn't say beast yet, but he was the star in the game. Cocoa is a top ranked team in the nation. Didn't look like it agaisnt Bolden. Misspelling last post **consensus**

  12. I watched the first half. I think he did everything but waterboy. Hit hard reads the play well and in the right place to make the tackle. He keeps playing like this I will have to take back some of the things I said about him.

  13. I'm trying to find info on Pharaoh Brown. I like Jeremy Clark and Brown in 2012. If Yuri Wright jumps on board he will be my favorite. He'll make a name for himself. Another Woodson, but in his own way.

  14. Farmington Hills Harrison is favored to win the state championship this season. Went 14-0 last year and returns most of their team. Currently ranked #8 in the nation by Rivals.

  15. Very impressive. 14-0. Don't see anyone stopping them this year as well.

  16. Completely off topic, but wanted to post for you guys... Washington and Stanford have both scheduled an official visit to Michigan together! TomVH posted this article on his twitter:
    http://cincinnati.com/blogs/preps/2011/08/29/adolphus-washington-and-dwayne-stanford-schedule-official-visits/
    =D

  17. Looks like Amara Darboh will be rescheduling his visit this from The Big House Blog.

    Amazing how Big Will went from starting DT from us the fans to 2nd. and maybe 3rd. string by the coaches. We Had high hopes for this kid. Maybe the coaches can help him during the season and in the summer.

    I have a question for all UM fans. Are we being naive believing UM will win at least 8 to 10 games this year? I have read and watched shows all saying UM will win between 6 or 7 games. I know I am alittle negative when predicting wins and loses for UM. But I see no reason UM can't win at least 8 games.Naive NO. Optimistic YES.What do you think Go Blue nation?

    ReplyDelete
  18. if washington and stanford both commit to michigan, we would have the number one class in the nation. with that bieng said, we have about a 30 percent chance of landing the talented duo. i can see stanford wanting to commit but washington is seeking a place to start instantly. michigan already has a lot of talent at end in this class.

    @steve
    farmington hills is talented and favored, but not going to win the state. sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 5-7 wins is being pessimistic. 8-9 wins is being modest. 10+ wins is being realistic. Get with the program, THIS IS MICHIGAN!

    ReplyDelete
  20. just be happy that college football starts in a week. cant wait to see all the games. go blue.

    the one game im looking forward to is Nebraska. i hope we show them that the big ten is a tough conference.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @ Jer
    I see no reason why we can't win AT LEAST 8 games this year.. We may not win every game we're "supposed" to win, but I think we have an upset or two in us.. This is what I think...
    Western: W
    ND:L
    Eastern: W
    SDSU:W
    Minnesota:W
    NW:W
    MSU:L
    Purdue:W
    Iowa:W
    Illini:W
    Nebraska:L
    Ohio:W

    That gives us 9... And I just don't see us losing the last 2 games of the season, especially at home. You could maybe flip flop those last 2. It's very, VERY possible, we could start this year 6-0 going into East Lansing

    ReplyDelete
  22. Washington was solid in their debut though they loss. Didn't hear a peep about Stanford. Someone mention technique (Washington); which can be refined by the right coach, hence Mattison. Regardless where Washington goes, he will be a stud.

    ReplyDelete
  23. JLa.
    Thats close to what I have them going.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @JLaBelle:

    We will not lose to MSU this year.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jer what are your predictions??

    Cass, heading into EL just scares me. I pray to the football gods we do not lose to little brother again..

    Anyone else? Predictions?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Don't be afraid. Here, take my hand. . . Is that better. Everything will be alright. It will be a high scoring game. We lost last year due to D-Rob 3 interceptions. Won't happen this year. MSU will be over-confident and Hoke will have the team, the team, the team pumped.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I too am a bit disappointed that Big Will is 2nd at best on the DT depth chart. Replaced by none other than our previously starting DE RVB. I guess I can't say I'm to surprised though. RVB is very talented and has put on considerable weight, coming in at about 290.

  28. This is how I see things going this season.
    WM=W
    ND=L
    EM=W
    SDSU=W
    Minn.=W
    NW=W
    MSU=W
    Pur.=W
    Iowa=W
    Ill.=L
    Neb.=W
    OSU=L
    Some of these games could go either way. There is one more lose in there just not sure which game so I went with a win til otherwise.

  30. Why would we loose to Illinois? They don't have a good qb, thier leading rusher Mikel leshour now plays for the lions. Who on that team is going to beat us?? Just curious...new head coach poor D, sure anything can happen but come on..we have 10 times the talent on both sides of the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah and holding the best wr in the state to 3 catches for 52 & no td's is a great game for TR! I'm very proud. Lol

    ReplyDelete
  32. Smokey,
    Thats the game before Neb.they maybe looking ahead. And not paying attention to Ill.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Lol.. Thanks Cass..
    Either way, we all look pretty close in predictions.. With 8 or 9 wins.. If any one of our lists are correct, I'd be very happy with this season.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Jer

    I see your point, but being as it's hokes first season, and how we performed last year, he's going to want to make a statment. Every coach knows you can't just forget about the lesser teams that's a big mistake, one IMO hoke won't make.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Smokey,
    I am sure coach Hoke will want to make a statement. But there is a good chance UM will drop one that they should win. Just like they will win one they maybe should of lost. So just pick a team Ill,NW,Iowa,SDSU,WM,EM,Minn or Pur. all the same.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't think Hoke will allow the team to look past any opponent. He doesn't want any embarrassments like App St or Toledo. He's going to make sure the team is focused, one game at a time. I feel like if things go our way, undefeated isn't out of the question, and here's why

    Western - self explanatory

    ND - not buying into a team that was 4-5 before winning 3 games (only utah W was impressive) JUST to make bowl eligibility.

    Eastern - self explanatory

    SDSU - Good QB, Good RB. NO, I repeat, NO WR's, and no defense. Oh btw, their coaches are on our side now, Hoke knows the team's in's and outs, he wont lose.

    Minn - self explanatory

    NW - Only good with persa as a dual threat. He isn't quite healthy yet, and he wont run nearly as much in fear of injury. No defense to speak of, no rush attack (other than qb) and 1 good WR.

    MSU - No offensive line. Cousins is horrible under pressure, and with no Oline, he shouldn't be able to stand back all day picking people apart, and although their RB's are great, hard to hit the second level if you have no blocking (o line). Also, other than Dline, their defense is totally unproven.

    Purdue - self explanatory.

    Iowa - Unproven QB, and defense, for once, looks very shaky. McNutt is a good WR, and Coker could be a good back, but the pieces to that puzzle don't look like they will all fit together, not this year.

    Illinois - exactly what Smokey said. QB play is questionable, no defense to really mention, no stand out WR and no rushing attack.

    Nebraska - Great defense, sh*t offense. Martinez is a baby, and will most likely be hurt by the time this game rolls around and QB depth is NOT something nebraska has...at all. Which leads me to my next point. Neb is not playing big 12 competition anymore, and they will take a severe beating in the B1G. I think Nebraska will be worn out by this game. Not to mention its home for us.

    THEosu - Off the field issues will continue to come up, the NCAA won't be done digging for a while (see USC). They could struggle in the beginning of the season without the TAT5, and them transitioning back into play could be rocky. QB play should allow for teams to beat THEosu, Bauserman has proven that he can sit the bench, and Miller will make all the freshy mistakes against B1G comp. Also, a home game.

    With Hokes attitude, our boys will be ready to play. Realistically, I'd say 8-9 wins, but I honestly believe 12-0 isn't out of the picture.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @landontm:

    I think 8-9 wins is our ceiling this year. 10 wins would be an unbelievable year and 12-0 is pretty much impossible. We dont have the depth and talent on defense to be able to go 12-0 not to mention I dont think its ever happened in the history of college football for a first year coach to take a really poor 7-6 team and turn them around into a 12-0 team.

    Is Hoke a good coach? I think so, but we will be underdogs in probably 5 or more of our games.

    ReplyDelete
  38. u guys, just becuz we bring in a new coach does not mean we will be a better team. last year we were great on offense but terrible on defense. this year i predict an average defense and offense. the team will get to a good bowl game and then the very next year, think big. very big becuz the BIG BOYS are going to be back. offense an defense will be very good becuz hoke is a smart coach. be patient. trust me.

  39. Rivals just revised their top 100. Kalis to #22, Magnuson #44, RJS #97 - stinks they all dropped a little. On the brighter side, Ondre Pipkins from #246 to #53! He will be a beast inside.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anybody know who all is visiting for the WMU game this weekend??

    ReplyDelete
  41. On a different note, Jarron Jones just committed to ND. Crap. Not looking forward to facing him.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anybody tell me how rivals does their rankings. They got jarron jones as #7 DT 78 overall then they got Pipkins #19 DT nut 53 overall. What gives????

    ReplyDelete
  43. Michfan:

    They havent updated their position rankings yet. It looks like Pipkins will be the #7 DT and Jones will be the #8 DT

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have a rivals membership and just got done watching Anthony Standifer's highlight film, and I really think this kid has great potential. He is a ball hawk and a straight up play maker, who can also come up and make a hit. There was a play where he jammed the receiver and ran him right into his own bench and shoved him over it. I am very excited to see what this guy's going to do in these next few years.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Also,

    I really want Brionte Dunn after watching his highlights of his first game. Wow. He really is a bruiser and is the type of runner U of M needs.

    ReplyDelete
  46. @ Smokey.... Although I agree with you questioning why someone would say we would lose to Illinois, your comment about their QB couldn't be further from the truth. Scheelhaase was only a freshman last year. He completed nearly 60% of his passes, and his td/int ration wasn't terrible(17/8). He is a threat running the football, and did you see what he did to a good Baylor team in the bowl game? Did I mention he was a Freshman last year. I'll be the first one in line puffing my chest out for Michigan, but I'll never discount what an opponent brings to the table.

  48. Beat me to the punch Brandon. Nathan will be Illi star shortly, and will cause some havoc in the B1G. But not against us. And whose Illi "new coach"? I thought Ron Zook was still there

    ReplyDelete
  49. Zook is still there. No idea what he was implying.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anybody notice that Scout just Gave Shane Morris a 5 star rating!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I believe Smokey was referring to Hokey.

    But Smokey, I have a trivia question for you:

    Who holds the Big House record for most all purpose yards, in the history of the stadium?

    And who was his coach?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Juice/Zook. Wait, was that rhetorical?

    ReplyDelete
  53. That's not half as embarrassing as a Toledo receiver having the record for receptions per game in the House.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Speaking of Toledo and embarrassment:

    Name the former Michigan WR who is probably the only player to ever lose to Toledo twice, playing for two different teams.

    snomelc yenot. odaroloc.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well, technically Toney Clemons had to sit out 2009 at Colorado, but still on the team, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Watch Toledo beat OSU this year, or at least give them a good scare. I'm not kidding.

    ReplyDelete
  57. That will depend on whether the key Blade players are betting the over, or under.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Quality Blade reference! Are you from the area?
