There will always be some freshman who it just doesn't work out for, and this year Tony Posada is the guy. It's a shame because of how badly UM needs OL, and also because it doesn't really look like he gave UM much of a chance, he was barely on campus before he left!
This departure could change Michigan's recruiting slightly for the 2012 class. Originally UM wanted 5-6 OL for the class, of which they currently have five; but they almost have a sixth in Jordan Diamond. The question is though, would they now take 7 if Zach Banner and Joshua Garnett decided to commit together at the ND game or shortly after?
All I can say is good luck to Tony in the future. I really thought there would be minimal attrition, and for the most part, that has been the case. Hoke & company are building something special, and it's only a matter of time before we're back competing for a National Title EVERY year. I think the current players and recruits sense this, and thus is why we've had as much success on the recruiting trail as we've had.
ReplyDeleteTony was wayyyy over weight. I remember he was one of those guys that clearly didn't put in the work over the summer. I been saying since day one to fill the trenches. Take Banner Garnett Obrien then focus or efforts on elite talent. Get Payton at the Nd game then if Diggs has the grades take him and Yuri. Give up on Diamond already!!!!! Garnett is a much better player with better technique already.
ReplyDeleteSide note: Idk what to do with Dunn. Part of me says forget him already we already got a stacked RB field but also that might cut our connect with his cousin..
With Posada leaving doesn't that open up the scholarship for someone else?
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to Tony Posada. I hope he is taking a step in a direction leading to success and happiness.
ReplyDeleteIf it's true he has decided to give up the game, I hope he gets his weight optimized for the real world. Far too many players suffer through life long morbid obesity after they stop playing.
I know where I would be if I was eating 20,000 KCal/day! Divorced, unemployed (It would have to be nearly a full time job eating that much), and a shut in (I could never fit in my car).
I'm also glad Posada has been relatively spared the Jones-like rumors. If I had to chose, I'd rather be called fat and lacking in desire for the game than a girlfriend beater. Although both sets of rumors are just rumors.
A lot of people posted things along the lines of "Jones must have done something wrong, or the team would have commented on why he left."
Well, the release on Posada was the same as the one on Jones.
To me, that means the new staff are not going to be providing any information for those of us with overly inquiring minds. Why should they?
That's one thing I always liked about the former coach: "I only comment on players that are on the team."
If you guys are bored, you can go check out the new Espn recruiting format. They did a major overhaul.
ReplyDeleteRegarding Diamond, his mom loves Arkansas and one of his teamates is choosing between Arkansas and two others. I don't like our chances.
Anyone have an accurate count on how many more transfers/medicals/RS Juniors not asked to return/Guys deciding to hang it up/ the team needs to be able to take 26 in 2012?
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, it was 6, and is now down to 4, but I don't claim to remember correctly.
I also wonder if Clark has a break out Senior year, and gets some high profile attention, if he might transition from greyshirt to full ride by NSD.
I've heard that about Diamond, as well. I must say, actually type, that it's difficult for me to imagine what's going on with them, based on quotes attributed to them.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading about how important they said the degree and academics were to them in the decision.
Arkansas?!?
If it's between Arkansas and Petrino, and Michigan and Hoke, I can honestly post: Pull his offer. He does not get it. His family does not get it. Take guys who get it. RUN from the guys who do not.
Beast of luck to him.
NEXT!
Just read an interesting entry indicating that MI has 177 offers outstanding.
ReplyDeleteKind of puts a new perspective on verbals, and time to NSD!
Right now we have 23 spots available. http://mgoblog.com/content/michigan-depth-chart-class-x
ReplyDeleteWe just got one more open spot. WR Je'Ron Stokes in leaving the program.
ReplyDeleteWhen did we get back in the running. with Zach Banner? I thought he was staying on the west coast?
ReplyDeleteDid Banner tell you that??
ReplyDelete@BlueMarrow:
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean "He does not get it"?
So how many schollies do we have open now that Stokes and Posada just now left
ReplyDeleteThe number 1 question. It may be possible the coaches knew already and factored that in their 26 count. Stokes is a huge surprise!! I really hope they reserve one for Clark.
ReplyDeleteGo Twins,
ReplyDeleteI mean he is not hip to the program. He's not buying into the "Michigan Man" concept and reality.
If he, and his mother, were trying to decide among MI, ND, Northwestern, Stanford or Cal, I might understand the difficulty.
Arkansas? Not exactly an academic bastion of excellence. And Petrino? Sorry, even more perplexing. I've heard enough Petrino stories from very reliable sources to know that the man is an unsavory character, to say the least.
Maybe Diamond should take another look at Miami. Better night life!
Does anybody have info on stokes? People were pretty excited about him, he had a good spring.
ReplyDeleteHey benji, if you're having a hard time coming up with post ideas, I have a suggestion. Could you give us a breakdown on the strengths and weaknesses of the receivers that we're currently recruiting?
ReplyDeleteEven I was stoked for Stokes
ReplyDeleteMore the reason to sign DBG and Diggs
ReplyDeleteNot a peep regarding DBG to Michigan - sure do wish they send the hounds. Maybe Shane Morris is getting in one of their ears. I would like DGB. I see him wearing #1 by his sophmore year. And Yuri Wright wearing #2 after V. Smith graduates. But first Darboh will jump on board. We will have to wait til the season starts so Diggs and DGB get to see what we are all about.
ReplyDeleteAnd Roundtree will have a killer year. I see 65+ catches for 1,000 yards with 11(+/-) TD! (I know, I know, wee-bit far fetched?? Not as bad as Posada leaving b/c he wanted to play DB!)
ReplyDeleteI think Roundtree takes a back seat this year to Junior Hemingway. I think Roundtree gets 700 yards and 6 or 7 touchdowns, he doesn't have the size to put up huge numbers from the outside receiver spot. Hemingway however, has the size and the build to dominate the outside spot. He's only 6'1", but he uses his 225 lbs to out jump/out man db's for the ball, and he is hard to bring down.
ReplyDeleteI too would LOVE to see DGB come in. Diggs would be nice, but he's got the same attributes that Roundtree gives us, 6ft nothing with great agility and speed. DGB is 6'6" and is extremely fast and powerful. I think Hoke & co would have a shot if they sent the dogs on him, but they don't seem to be interested.
That being said, Darboh and Payton are blue by week 3.
Best of luck to Je'Ron. I hope he finds an opportunity to see the field, probably with a much smaller school.
ReplyDeleteNothing much to see here on this one. It's about as surprising as a TE transferring, although I expected the first WR to bolt to be under 5'10". A TE will be next. Bound to happen.
Does anyone have a current and accurate dreadlock count?
@Blue 10
ReplyDeleteLoL
ReplyDeleteJeRon was a heavy Tennessee lean and suprised everyone by picking UM. Maybe he sits out this year and suits up for the VOLS next.
ReplyDeletePosada, Jones, Stokes all gone now. Ouch.
We are still in Yuri Wright's top six (probably 3rd), but he mentioned to Rivals that he is leaning towards Rutgers and Cal. I still think we are in play, but maybe the coaches are feeling more comfortable with the current crop of DB's and the likelihood of Richardson staying.
ReplyDeleteI also went through Rivals and Scouts last 7 or 8 years of OL rankings and VERY, VERY rarely did the top top guys become the best guys. Joe Thomas and Jake Long were both mid-tier guys. Michael Oher was one of the very few elite HS OL that became high profile or elite college players. I think we need to take a lot of OL EVERY year after seeing this trend. For sure two more this year with Posada leaving!
Has Wright taken a visit to UM yet and if he has not is he planning a visit? If TRich takes even one visit else where I believe Hoke will pull his offer. If Hoke pulls his offer he will go hard after Wright.
ReplyDeleteI said a couple of posts ago I thought UM should take two O linemen with there last four spots and with Posada leaving this may prove my point. UM is already thin at O line and besides you can fever have enough 300+ O linemen.
well to be honest I think that it was about time that he made the decision of leaving the program once and for all after what I read at per head sports blog, it did not surprise me
