Who left? (Offense)

After Wormley's commitment this weekend, there are only 5 projected spaces left in this year's class; and the season hasn't even started yet! Crazy. Anyway, let's take a look at the realistic targets left on UM's board, and see when they might be thinking of making a decision.

- OT Jordan Diamond: As you read this I think Jordan is currently on campus at Ole Miss, having visited Arkansas yesterday. He's liking what he sees and will more than likely revisit some SEC schools on official visits. So it looks like his commitment might take a while to come, but in the end I think Michigan will hold off the challengers.

- WR Dwayne Stanford: I've recently seen two 'top five' lists for Dwayne, one included Michigan, the other did not. I suspect Michigan is still in with a chance here, given that he grew up liking UM and that he hasn't even visited yet. He'll be taking all his officials, and one should be to UM before deciding around October-November.

- WR Jehu Chesson: He visited for the BBQ with his family and they all seemed to have a great time. He's another guy that will want to take his visits, but Michigan should have a good chance here. Missouri will also be right in there at the death, as might Indiana; who he recently visited.

- WR Amara Darboh: Another recent visitor to Ann Arbor, Darboh came away very impressed and I think Michigan is definitely in his top group, if not the outright leader. He'll take some visits, but could still be a mid-season decision. Note that if one of the three receivers mentioned were to randomly commit early, then the other two might be rushed into a decision of their own.

- TE Ron Thompson: Michigan is still under consideration for Thompson along with Syracuse and Maryland. He wants to play for Michigan, but something is holding him back; maybe UM only wants 2 TE's, or maybe there is something else.

Edit: how could I have forgot him?!!!

- RB Brionte Dunn: He visited for the BBQ and liked what he saw. The OSU sanctions will be announced at tge start of the season if I remember correctly; shortly before Dunn is set to take an official to UM for the ND game. So those first couple weeks in September should decide his recruitment!

  1. Is it even possible for Michigan to end recruiting as strong as they started? Of course, but only if the defense makes some improvements and highlights of denard are on espn every five minutes. Denard is our best recruiting tool, because he shows kids how much pub espn likes to give Michigan when they earn it. If the addition of mattison makes the defense 50 rankings better than why wouldn't two DT want to come to Michigan.

  2. .... what about Payton? he named a top two of Cal and Michigan. he is visiting for the ND and if we get Darboh, i will guarantee the staff will hold a spot until after he visits

    ReplyDelete
  3. What happened to Obrien and Pipkins?

    ReplyDelete
  4. D-Rich that wasn't Payton, that was Darius Powe..

    ReplyDelete
  5. Actually Davon... You are wrong in calling me wrong.

  6. I think Darius Powe's top 2 is Oregon State and Michigan (Oregon State is first)
Jordan Payton's top 2 of Michigan and Cal is very important for us, he has obviously been to Cal but he hasn't been to Michigan. I think his visit for the nd game will make or break our chances with him.

On an unrelated note, this post was only regarding offensive recruits. That is why Pipkins and O'brien are not on it.

  7. Ahh Damn..your right d-rich lol

    ReplyDelete
  8. Lol its all good mane, Payton is coming for ND game. I think that game (if we win) will do wonders for recruiting!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Thanks for the explanation @mark. I was wondering why two of our biggest prospects weren't mentioned!

Glad to see we are in the final spots for Payton and Powe. Id rather see payton and darboh, but Powe is nothing to shake a stick at.

  10. Just saw on the Free Press site that Ohio State preferred walk-on Gram Glasgow switched to Michigan. Glasgow is a 6'6" 316lb all-state offensive lineman from Illinois.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think Devin Fuller should be up here. And for receivers its very possible to get both Stefon Diggs and Jordan Payton. And I think its safe to assume that Pipkins and O'brien will go blue.

    Go blue

    ReplyDelete
  12. I think O'brien will be tennessee in the end. Diggs has a LOT of work to do in the classroom before he qualifies..plus Diggs and Wes Brown are supposedly a package deal, so we may get a RB also..

    ReplyDelete
  13. Dr.J that news is two weeks old, freep is really slow, and Maize and mike diggs will not be coming to michigan so let it die. His grades aren't in order. Speculation is Maryland or SEC

    ReplyDelete
  14. yet again, another talented player who isnt talented in the classroom falls to the SEC. No wonder they are so dominate, they have no academic standards

    ReplyDelete
  15. Lal,
    Who are you talking about?

    ReplyDelete
  16. couple of thoughts is Thompson going to screw things up with WR Payton.I f Thompson commits to UM he will most likely be a WR.

To bad ND does not have the same code of conduct that BYU was.Mike Floyd will not miss any games. And yes I know about Stonum but there is a big difference between 2 arrest and 4 arrest.

Davon I agree with you on O'Brien going to UT.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think Thompson goes to Indiana. With Kiel he knows his Qb and Wilson knows how to use his TE in the offense. See Jermaine Gresham at Oklahoma...

    ReplyDelete
  18. With UM pursing Reeves again. Is UM sure TRich is going to decommit? I hope RJS gets on him.

    ReplyDelete
  19. TomVH made it clear that it had nothing to do with Richardson, it has more to do with our current DBs or Standifer being more of a S than a CB. I believe Fuller can play CB, so this adds to the case that we do need him.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Jer89

I was referring to Diggs because somebody mentioned above he was probably SEC bound. Also, I don't know how comfortable I am with TRich. He was the last of that group to commit, and he's been sort of shaky ever since. It doesn't seem like he's bought into Michigan completely yet, which makes me nervous. I've said before, I'd rather recruit a 3* who WANTS to play for Michigan, and a 4* who doesnt know what he wants, or is just enjoying the spotlight. I hope he stays, but if another DB like Wright or Reeves wants to sign up, I say take em.

    @Davon
I can see why you think Thompson would go to Indiana, because of Kiel. However, if I remember correct, Thompson was a main target for Shane Morris in the 7v7's, so he knows he'll have a very good QB in morris if he goes blue.

    ReplyDelete
  21. an example of TRich not being completely sold on Michigan.

    http://twitter.com/#!/Terry_Rich

none of his tweets are about Michigan, his background has nothing to do with Michigan, he tweets things like "hey check me out, I'm on espn!" "watch my 7v7 today at bla bla bla oclock" etc. Then you check Royce Jenkins Stone twitter...

    http://twitter.com/#!/Mr2012RJS

tell me if you see a difference.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Who is gonna be Brady Hoke's successor. Will there be any Michigan men left?

    ReplyDelete
  23. You lost me Will.

And regarding the tweets, I would tweet, facebook, and tell every person I saw that I was on Espn. And RJS makes like a million (exaggeration) tweets a day, so his chances of mentioning Michigan is very high since he just tweets whatever is on his mind.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well regardless of what each person tweets, it's obvious to me that TRich isn't as high on Michigan as our other commits.

    ReplyDelete
  25. As for Brady's Successor (providing he does well enough for Michigan to keep him for a long time, and I hope that happens) I could see Dhani Jones coming to Michigan as a coach. I dont know if he could take over as a head coach, but I think he could be very valuable as a defensive coach. He had a great career at Michigan, he's been in the league for years, and coaching would be a great addition to his already huge resume.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @will .... Ron English lols but really mike hart, Dhani, could both make good position coaches

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh and everyone give this a thought... Mike Martin conditioning coach. Shivers run down my spin

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like Martin as a conditioning coach/line coach. That dude is an ANIMAL in the weight room.

    ReplyDelete
  29. but alas he is bound for what i hope is a long and prosperous career in the NFL

    ReplyDelete
  30. agreed, but he could come back after!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Is there anybody besides players that could be the coach. Anyone with ties to the team, once coaches/coordinators/position coaches. I'd invite Gary Moeller back and our defensive coordinator from 2000 Jim Hermann. Gary Moeller could also be hired as D or O coordinator or QB coach or Linebacker coach. Any other candidates?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Why are we talking about the next coach when the current coach has yet to coach a game? Lets just be happy with the one we have.

    ReplyDelete
  33. idk lol I just cant help but to think ahead and I was just thinking how many michigan men are left out there

    ReplyDelete
  34. Two words: Tom Brady. He could start out as a QB coach and work his way up from there.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think T-Rich is high on himself. Kind of like Boo Boo.

Swagger if necessary for a great CB. I think he has that. It remains to be seen if has the rest.

I sill vividly remember everyone raving about Boo Boo's speed, and leaping ability. I more vividly remember Floyd owning him like the prison beyatch he has now become, in the ARMY AA game.

I'll believe there is a prime time CB out of Cass Tech when I see one.

The coaches patched their bridge to Reeves for a reason, or reasons. It does not take a lot of insight or imagination to determine their reasons, in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Mark, I don't see Brady as a coach. Too cerebral, and motivated.

I seriously see him as next generations Ronald Reagan. (Not politically, but as an analogy)

He is guy that could easily be groomed to become POTUSA. If an idiot like me sees it, I can guarantee you that others have not only thought about it, but have begun to plan for the possibility.

Unfortunately, that's the way it works. The masters choose their puppets.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sheldon Day to ND, oh darn :(

    ReplyDelete
  38. BlueMarrow... Seriously chill on the Hoke bashing. I think everyone here is pumped we landed him. He is our guy to turn this ship around fast. Anyone else feel like commenting on whatBluMarrow said? I'm interested in hearing what your feelings are with Hokamania

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wolv-

    WTF?

    Hoke bashing?

    I LOVE the guy.

After Urban and Jimmy, he was my number 3 for the LAST hire!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. @BlueM while we are talking about Urban, do any of you think he could have put together a better recruiting class? I dont think he ever did this well at UF, this quickly

    ReplyDelete
  41. I just have a bad feeling on TRICH. I feel he does have alot of swagger but he backs it up. I think he will end up at UF. He likes the their glitz and glamour. SEC schools tend to put on a show for these impressionable youg men. I really hope I am wrong but my gut feeling says UF.

    ReplyDelete
  42. maybe we should send TRICH a stripa-gram:) (he is 18 right?) DRess her in some slutty michigan cheerleader uniform and send her with a card saying "are you in?"

    Sincerly, Benji's Boys

  43. Sheldon Day to ND...........really blows!! I hope this means we land Obrien & Pipkins.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'd love to see Dhani Jones as a LB coach down the line -- but our current LB coach started off his coaching career at my high school (albeit he left the year before I was born, 1981). I believe one of the coaches is also a former coach at Defiance College, too. My dream is that they will some day recruit a football player from my high school to be Blue. So far, we've only had luck with baseball players going big time.

I'd also love to see a former o-lineman like Hutchison get into coaching. Hutch was one of my favorite hog-mollies, and has had a great NFL career.

And how can we forget the greatest Wolverine of the last 20 years: Charles Woodson. I can see Woodson coming back to AA in 15 years. I hate him right now because I'm a Bears fan, but he's forever up there with Howard.

Lastly, Tyrone Wheatley is coaching at Syracuse right now. I can see him taking over RBs coach the day Fred Jackson retires (if that ever happens); there was just an article about how they are recruiting against each other now, like master versus knight.

  46. Last week I mentioned Wayne Morgan and was crucified for including another DB in this class. About three weeks ago, Rivals had an article stating the same thing that has been recently said about Armani Reeves. If for some reason there are scholarships available, due to de-commits or some of the top DT's, WR's, or OL's don't commit, this staff WILL still take talented players even if it isn't a need position. Wayne Morgan (he is listed at 5'11 188 lbs btw), Reeves and even Yuri Wright are still on the table for UM. They are ALL rated higher than Terry Richardson.

    Wright: (6'2 185lbs)- #3 CB/#41 Overall
    Morgan: (5'11 188lbs)-#13/#139
    Reeves: (5'11 185lbs)-#16/187
    TRich: (5'9 160lbs) -#18/195

Don't get me wrong, I do NOT think Richardson will de-commit, but the fact that three top 200 db's and a TE (Thompson) still have legitimate interest in UM shows me that this staff won't turn their backs on top-tier talent even when the position appears to be full. When NSD rolls around and UM has been holding a few spots for the likes of Banner, Dunn &/or Fuller, if we miss out and still have spots available we could still be in position for these guys.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Even though I think michigan will land pipkins or obrien, what are our options if we miss out on them? Does that mean godin or a different DE moves to the inside??

    ReplyDelete
  48. If we don't get either of them, we could get Shittu or Tommy Schutt. Yes, I just said Tommy Schutt, he might be visiting michigan this weekend and he is interested. Some would say that nd was his favorite, but with the Sheldon day addition there is no room for him at nd.

    ReplyDelete
  49. First I would like to ask everyone to keep Steve Kragthorpe and his family in there thoughts and prays.sad news

Abach, Lets not put that out there. This is a question for guys like Benji. I would like to think that UM could get one of these guys.

I am looking forward to the day Kalis and Day face off in the Big House. Great battle and am sure Kalis will pancake him.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The people at AP poll must be drinking buddies with the ND player? Brian Kelly is a good coach but he's not that good. They went from not rated to 18th. in the poll with only spring pactice. WOW thats coaching. Or the fix is on?

    ReplyDelete
  51. @MArk Schutt will be visiting Friday, now that ND has Day.... we may now be the team to beat for his services... Top 3 of Michigan,PSU, Wiscy

    ReplyDelete
  52. @Jer89... how long have you followed college football... now ask your self in all those years how many years was ND overrated? This year will not be any different.

    ReplyDelete
  53. @jer
It's because michael Floyd isn't suspended.

    @d-rich
Thanks, I am very hopeful for what will play out here.

    ReplyDelete
  54. @Mark
Most deff... I will be happy with any of the three we lead for currently... but what i love about Schutt is that his only weakness listed on scout is... technique. what better place in the big ten right now to learn DT technique? amirite?

    ReplyDelete
  55. ND has taking only 1 DT...they wont say no to Schutt...I think ND is leading for Jarron Jones as well.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh and OT but ive been doing some searching for embedable IMing system to purpose to Benji. While the one time live QA was fun, i would like to be able to have a sort of chat room feel. Im not trying to change benjis baby but i believe it would stir up great discussions

    ReplyDelete
  57. @Asad
it looks as if he is parting ways with ND... seeing as how they are not in his top three...

    ReplyDelete
  58. D-Rich,
Have you ever heard Sarcasm? If not you have know. ND has been overrated sence Holts was there (commiting infractions).

Mark It's not just Floyd. It's also ESPN you would think they ND owned ESPN. Instead ND owns NBC. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  59. So, according to Steve Wilfong on Twitter, The coaches in AA just told Tommy Schutt NOT to visit.... um, k, what????? I trust the coaches, but that is kinda confusing.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm am guessing we have a silent commit. The coaches must have parted ways with the other DTs, Day commited out of nowhere right after the BBQ. And now Schutt.

    ReplyDelete
  61. @Brent Hart
Sounds as if we are only taking 1DT? or our Staff is confident in landing Obrien and Pipkens

    ReplyDelete
  62. Being confident is one thing, but completely turning away a great DT that wants to visit seems a tad extreme. There are many days till NSD, and even if either of them committed, there is no guarantee of a decommittment. At least by letting Schutt visit, he could be a viable backup plan.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I am not sure why you would tell a 5 star DT not to visit even if there is a silent commit. Take the 5 star DT and take only one WR instead.I agree with Brent confusing.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Schutt said that Michigan already has a DT committed, I like how the coaches played this. They were honest with him, this leaves the door open for him if we do decide we want 2 DTs.

    ReplyDelete
  65. So is the commit Godin or someone else? I hope it not Godin I think Godin is good but I think Schutt is better.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Godin? We've had Godin for a long time now.

I second the motion for an "instant messenger" type of chat. Too often I'm wanting to talk Michigan football/recruiting and nobody is around to talk to haha

    ReplyDelete
  67. LaL I know Godin has been along time commit. Rumor has that the coaches are moving him to DT. So my question was are they counting him as a DT and have another commit (silent) or is he the only DT they are taking?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Ohh I see. What was he recruited as, because he's listed as a DT. And if he was recruited as something else, and moves to DT, does that open his scholarship back up?

    ReplyDelete
  69. GOOD NEWS!! Dymonte Thomas wrote "Go Blue" on Kyle Kalis's Facebook Wall. This is huge! Although it is known that we lead for Thomas, this could be a sign about Bri'onte... Who knows but this is exciting stuff!

30 days til the season starts! Go Blue!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I think they recruited Godin as a DE but may have told him they may move him to DT.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Ryan,
Almost all of the recrits have said Go Blue on twitter or facebook at one point and time. So would not get your hopes up so soon.Sorry

    ReplyDelete
  72. I seem to remember that someone was commiting on Friday. Am I wrong? I think it was Thompson.

    ReplyDelete
  73. The new scoreboard at the Big House is sweet.

    ReplyDelete
  74. @Ryan
Yesterday I saw Dymonte tell Dunn that he would commit right on the spot if Brionte committed to Michigan.

    ReplyDelete
  75. @Mark

If that is true, then it makes me think Dunn is more inclined. It's one thing for other recruits to try and swing him, but when his own family wants him to go BLUE, and the opportunity to PLAY with family, that has to be good.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Pipkins and Schutt both play the same position (1-tech). The coaching staff must feel confident with Pipkins to turn down a visit from Schutt. Not much separates these two as far as star rating. Pipkins took home the Defensive MVP from the Nike Camp over the likes for Day and many others. I am not sure if Schutt was at the camp.

    ReplyDelete
  77. One another note I believe that Mich. will take a 3-tech in this class and they are targeting Danny O. for that position. Schutt doesn't translate to the 3-tech like Danny does.

    ReplyDelete
  78. One final thing to consider, on both Scout and Rivals Schutt to ranked higher than Day. Why would ND except a commitment from Day rather than Schutt? Maybe the coaches from both schools think Schutt might be over rated a little. Still a good DT but rated a little high.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Jer89
Just remember the higher rated ND is when we beat them the better it looks on our behalf.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Thompson said that he would be announcing in early August.

    ReplyDelete
  81. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/chi-notre-dame-pulls-offer-for-states-top-football-player-20110804,0,5677877.story This article clarifies that both UM and ND pulled their offers from Schutt thursday afternoon because they have both "received commitments at his position already" so proof of a silent commit but who??

    ReplyDelete
  82. It's got to be Pipkins. TomVH wrote this today:

TomVH: Quick Danny O'Brien Update (Not related to Schutt)
This is completely independent from all the Tommy Schutt news that's going around. Danny O'Brien sent me a text today asking that I help him dispel the rumors about him committing soon. He said he's been getting phone calls a lot lately and people asking if he's going to commit.

He wants to take his time and take his official visits. He asked if I could help stop the rumors and phone calls asking about it, so this is the best I can do.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I'm really disappointed Michigan pulled their offer from Tommy Schutt he is one of the best players in the state and I thought they wanted to lock the state up. Also, there's nothing wrong with taking two DT's I don't see why the coach doesn't want to. I'd take another DT over another WR or RB or QB or CB

    ReplyDelete
  84. Schutt is from Illinois not Michigan. Most think Michigan will take to DT's just at different positions. One being the 1-tech (Pipkins) and the other being the 3-tech (O'brien).

    ReplyDelete
  85. @bluecrew there is no silent commitment it was reported on rivals that "wires have been crossed" and there is no silent commitment...

    ReplyDelete
