Sheldon Day to ND

Four star DT Sheldon Day has committed to Notre Dame, ergh.

It's always bad to see a top player commit elsewhere, but it feels even worse when you know you're going to see him each year on the opposite sideline.

Day was once considered to be a big Michigan lean back in the spring, when a quick succession of visits had the Wolverines as clear favorites. But things cooled down dramatically over the summer as Michigan gained in stature with the likes of Ondre Pipkins and Dan O'Brien. He was scheduled to visit for the BBQ last weekend, but didn't make the trip in the end, and I guess that sealed things for Notre Dame.

  1. Well Benji man we cant win em all, and personally If you're right and were only going to take one true DT in this class (I bet Godin ends up inside), I'd take Pipkins anyway...are we still on top for him?

  2. OLB Laron Taylor (Detroit Cass Tech) commits to Iowa. I wish we could've got this kid he is probably getting outshined by his teammates and I think he could be a sleeper

    ReplyDelete
  3. He didn't even get an offer. Kaleb Ringer is a sleeper.

    ReplyDelete
  4. He was a 3-star and would've had an offer if Royce Jenkins-Stone didn't go to Cass Tech. And if Iowa offered (we know their defense) he coulda played for Michigan

    ReplyDelete
  5. Also he was in the top 20 for recruits in Michigan

    ReplyDelete
  6. Will we just got are best LB recruiting class ever chill out lol.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Maybe not ever, but Im not complaining. What do you guys think about Yuri Wright? I like our chances with him, he said he loves Michigan be grew up a fan and wants to take an official.

    ReplyDelete
  8. lol I guess I just like talent. But, nothing against Kaleb Ringer but I'd take him over him

    ReplyDelete
  9. If the offer is there Yuri is Blue

    ReplyDelete
  10. Gimme Reeves! we're back in on him for some reason.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I am still alittle confused on the whole DT stuff. But as long as the coaches know what there doing I am good with it I have complete faith in the coaching staff. Maybe they see the D backfield as a bigger problem? That maybe the reason they are still talking the to Reeves and Wright. I would love to get both of these guys.

  12. Benji,
Any chance some of the verbal commits UM has move up in the ratings? And I have read in a couple of reports that Ben Barden has put some weigth on any idea if he has and if so how much?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Kaleb Ringer is bigger, stronger, fast, rated #10 at his position to this 4.7 forty running, #58th-rated positionally Taylor. Ringer has also been tearing up summer camps and rising as a result. (Taylor might work out for Iowa, but our coaches love Ringer's likely success over many others.)

Your comment that you "just want talent" implies that Ringer is not talented, or more deeply that you are either Laron Taylor himself or a close friend or relative.

We have and get enough Cass Tech guys on the team, and not all of them have or will work out. I trust the Michigan coaches over the Iowa coaches.

  14. I just read on Mlive.com that Ben Braden is 6'-6" and weighting in at 319. Thats bigger then Kalis,Bars,Magnuson and Stacey. His HS coach said he has hit the weight room and has been working on his technique.Maybe the UM coaches will pass on another O linemen if they can't get Diamond,Peat,Banner and Garnet.Sounds like Braden has what it takes to be another great O linemen at UM.

  15. I would prefer another WR than another OL. I think each of our committed OL will get bigger and stronger. Also, they will receive excellent coaching here. We need play makers. What happens once Roundtree, Hemingway, etc leave? We need to bust our asses to get Stefon Diggs.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Just let Shane Morris do the recruiting for WR.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Haha for sure! Hope he hits up Stefon then!

Also, are we in the running for OT Avery Young from Palm Beach Gardens? Scout says that he has interest in us...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Dear god, Diggs will not be coming to michigan... Just let it go. SEC or bust for him.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Bust for him? He's going to the ACC..Miami too be exact...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sorry I forget Miami isn't sec... They sure do fit the criteria to be part of the sec no?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I have faith in Countess and the coaches! We are bound to finish strong gentlemen and turn some heads.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lol Yea Miami does act like the SEC

    ReplyDelete
  23. I meant I want as much talent as I can get, meaning and get as much talent as we can get no matter the position as long as we don't go overboard on one position. I did not say Ringer was not talented although I would prefer Taylor over Ringer just because I think Ringer is overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  24. We have Cass Tech on lock down, we need to keep pushing into Ohio for recruiting and Ringer helps that. I think the coaches know what they want. Ringer is better than Taylor, ask Hoke.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah Taylor camped and didn't get an offer so...unless you know something Mattison doesn't, we got the right guy lol. I'm so glad to see Cass Tech is back on Blue lock like it should be, and I'm just as happy that we're snatching the best from Farmington Harrison now too, its always been a sparty stronghold.

  26. Saw an article today stating that Demar Dorsey is playing football for Grand Rapids Community College this year. The dude runs a 4.25 40... still sad we missed out on this guy

    ReplyDelete
  27. You never know considering that Denard is his cousin, when/if he's eligible to play NCAA football he may go back to U of M to finish out his college career.

    ReplyDelete
  28. michigan doesnt take JUCO kids. shame too because demar is a freakish talent who would have started as a true frosh. im happy that we got our safety, jarrod wilson.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Does Michigan never take JUCO kids, why is that exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Michigan doesnt take a lot of juco kids cause of the higher academic standars to get into the school itself. The problem occurs cause the juco and community colleges credits dont match up with the michigan credits so the kids dont really get any credit for the classes they take before trying to get into michigan and they are stuck with what they did in hs and since that wasn't good enough to get into the school in the first place they dont ever get in

  31. Any recent news on Bri'onte Dunn??

  33. The last I heard he is still committed the Luckeyes. His cousin Thomas said if Dunn commits to UM he will. I guess we will find out alittle more on Friday when OSU meet with the NCAA. I have a feeling they are going to get off easy. Most likely lose a couple of scholarships and put on probation for a few years as well.USC will be watching what happens very carefully.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I hope they get hit worse than USC but I feel as though the NCAA and O$U have a little bond... The details and information of the Buckeyes that was revealed was worse than Reggie Bush taking a car for a joy ride and receiving money. Bush was one person while O$U's issues involved many players and a coach. I think we'll end up with Dunn in the end.

Also, was there news of Vincent Smith transferring? I thought I read that somewhere

    ReplyDelete
  35. I checked UM website Smith is still on the roaster so I am not sure if he is with the team or not. I hpoe USC looks at legal optoin if the luckeyes just get a slap on the wrist. They should be hit harder then OSU just because the coach knew about it the whole time and said nothing to his bosses or more important the NCAA. We all know you don't lie to the NCAA. I hope I am wrong on this.

  36. Lets say UM does'nt receive a commit from any of the following guys Dunn,Payton,Stanford,Washington,Diamond,Banner,Garnet,O'Brein,Pipkin,Wright,Reeve,Diggs and Peat. Then who does UM go after? Alot of UM back up recruits are committed to other schools. Please fill free to list some guys. And just to let people know I DO NOT beleive this is going to happen. Things are alittle slow and UM will not get everyone they want so I am looking for some other guys to fill out the class. With 5 to 6 spots remaining I hope they take 1 DT Pipkin,1 WR Payton,1 OL Banner,2 DB Reeves and Wright and 1 RB Dunn but Lewis will be more likely.

  37. This just in Stonum is Redshirting all of 2011.
Punter Will Hagerup suspended 4 games and Terrence Robinson for the season opener. Finally a school that holds the team above a player. ND should pay attention.

  38. Jer
Why do you want Banner, instead of Diamond and Garnett? Banner is extremely RAW, gonna take a lot of work.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Diamond is SEC bound and Garnett is shorter. But I would that garnett if needed to. Would love both Banner and Garnett.

  40. Davon,
Fuller has named his final 11 and no UM is the man crush over?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hang on..let me go bang my head on a wall..

    ReplyDelete
  42. Did UM make Noah Spence final 7?

    ReplyDelete
  43. UNC, Notre Dame, Maryland, NC State, Penn State, Florida, and USC.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Davon,

Sorry for your loss......he was a good man!!!

FWIW.....expect us to start falling off of the board on others as well.... It's okay. We'll bag our quota.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Fuller said he wanted to visit in August!! I thought he really liked michigan...I mean Kansas made his list...they are absolutely horrible..

    ReplyDelete
  46. I read somewhere yesterday that UM may take 27 to 28 recruits now does anybody know anything about that?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Now we have one less spot with Stonum Redshirting so the chances of that are slim.

    ReplyDelete
  48. "Stonum will have one year of eligibility remaining after redshirting this season.
The athletic department also announced today that sophomore punter Will Hagerup has been suspended four games and senior wide receiver Terrance Robinson is suspended for one for a violation of team rules."

I think stonum having to redshirt works out great for Michigan. It shows that Michigan is better than ND and doesnt let someone like Micheal Floyed show that he is bigger than the team and school plus it gives us a much needed WR next year after we lose some good senior WR. The thing that scares me the most is losing our punter for 4 games. Everyone watched the OSU game he didnt play in. Are back up punter last year was beyond horrible. I am very scared for the first 4 games if we dont find someone. Someone tell me our kicker coming in can also punt or they found some new walk on that can kick farther than 30 yards?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Matt Wile averaged over 40 yards per punt in high school, he also punted the ball over 50 yards consistently at a camp recently.

    ReplyDelete
  50. balla4show, I dislike ND as much as you do, but dont pretend like what happened with Mike Floyd and what happened with Stonum are the same thing. Stonum got a DUI as a minor his freshman year, drove with a suspended license in March 2010 and was jailed in July 2010 for multiple probation violations and then got a second DUI in 2011. Floyd got caught drinking at parties 2 separate times during the 2 offseasons and then got this DUI. If Floyd would have gotten a second DUI, I guarantee he would have gotten kicked out of ND

    ReplyDelete
  51. Balla,

TomVH has film of Wile Punting and doing a good job now it was in practice and not a game so the coaches will have there work cut out for them. They have 28 days to get it worked out.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Floyd was over two times over the legal limit and he ran a stop sign. He could have very easily injured or killed someone. Stonum was less drunk and driving slowly, not speeding out of control. And Floyd was caught running from one of those party's with blood on his hand and had just been in a fight. He definitely should have been suspended.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Mark,
It does not matter how drunk you are.Drunk is drunk and it is very serious. Stonum is very lucky they are letting him come back. Floyd should not be able to play football at ND and neither should Stonum. Its that serious.

    ReplyDelete
  54. @jer
Your right I phrased that wrong, it wasn't meant to say that Stonum wasn't very drunk (because he was). It was meant to emphasize how drunk Floyd was. And I would have had no problem with kicking Stonum off the team. But I do think that Floyd should have been suspended at the very least half the season, not reinstated before fall practice.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Mark,
I agree 100% with you on Floyd ahould have been suspended at least 6 games but thats not how ND works there moral compass is broken when it comes to the football team. They should try to be like BYU.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thanks for the update about Matt Wile everyone. Its crazy how much is riding on him. Now he is are top punter for the first 4 games and are kicker plus kick offs.

    ReplyDelete
  57. According to Rivals, Yuri Wright talked about official visits.

"I know I am definitely going to take one to Michigan and to Georgia," Wright said. "I'm really trying to get out there when I can find some time in my schedule with my pracitces and games." Other possible destinations for official visits inclue Cal, Colorado and Michigan State. He also said he would like to get to UM for Notre Dame or versus Ohio State this fall.

"I've always been a real big Michigan fan," Wright said. "I just love everything about them, I have a real good relationship with Coach (Curt) Mallory and I really think I could fit in there."

"Really what he likes about my game is my size and my ability to keep up with guys man-to-man as a corner," Wright said.

Wright will decide Jan. 7th at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
