Brionte Dunn visiting

Michigan won't be hosting many 2012 recruits this weekend for the Nebraska game, but at least a big timer will be there! Brionte Dunn will be visiting Ann Arbor with his cousin, and current 2013 commit, Dymonte Thomas.

Not sure yet on whether its an official or unofficial visit, but given the lateness of this news, one would think it's an unofficial as they take less time to plan etc. Hopefully a few more Ohio commits will come up for the game now that they know Brionte is coming, someone like Kyle Kalis would be ideal.

As for Michigan's chances, the visit certainly helps but you get the feeling that his recruitment will be decided by factors such as the NCAA penalties for the Buckeyes, and who their new coach is, assuming Fickell is done. For example, if they got Urban Meyer, who is known for more of a spread offense, would Dunn fit in there?

Still, this is very good news. Let's hope Fitzgerald Tousiannt gets loads of carries on Saturday, and of course lets hope Michigan wins!!!

  3. I just wanted to clarify something about a couple of posts regarding Demar Dorsey...the University of Michigan absolutely does take transfer students from Community Colleges. I know this from a few people I graduated high school with who ended up at U of M from community colleges as well as from the U of M website for transfer students. If we got Demar Dorsey it would be a HUGE pickup. He's already got some experience playing against tougher competition at the community college level. Also, don't forget he's got absolutely elite level speed. There were reports that he ran a 40 in 4.2 seconds. At 6-1 he could play either corner or safety. He's turning his life around, has been humbled and his grades are on point also. Hopefully Hoke and company will be willing to look at him...

  4. If he was part of the 2013 class like it say's wouldn't he only have 1 year of eligibility left?

  5. Akmed,
I am with you on Dorsey. Dorsey seem to have turned his life in the right direction and he will have a clear slate with coach Hoke. I am sure he will have to seat down with the powers to be and prove he has changed. If UM says he has turned his life around then give him a chance.

  6. I think he would be coming in for 2012 not 2013 if he can get accepted to the University. They could either offer him or if he was still willing to walk-on with other offers on the table they could give him a scholarship later. I think he's only burned 1 year of eligibility playing for his community college so would that not leave 3 years left if he came in for next fall?

  7. I think Dorsey would be a great pickup, but getting into UM as a student transferring in from a CC requires a 3.5 GPA at the CC and 50 transferrable credits or the applicant must have earned his Associate's degree from the CC. UM has crazy high standards and although his heart bleeds blue, getting in seems like a long shot whether it is on scholarship or not. If he did qualify and get enrolled in school he would have TWO years of eligibility and could play next fall. JUCO transfers do not have to sit a year like a D1 to D1 transfer does (see Cameron Newton). I don't think he will be at Michigan, but I genuinely hope to see him succeed. He sounds like a very special talent. I think Mattison and Hoke woudl rather have 4 years of Yuri Wright instead!

  8. Caleb, if he has only used 1 year at CC then he would transfer in with 3 years of eligibility, not 2, but if he's used 2 years he will only have 2 left, every student athlete has a total of 4 years and I would love to have him added to UM's team, along with Yuri Wright. Especially if he's okay with walking onto the team and saving a scholarship for this class that could go elsewhere.

  9. I think the issue is that Michigan doesn't take CC transfers with only one year of college credit. The earliest Michigan could take him would be 2013.

  10. Unless you're Robbie Hummel in which case you can play til your 40... ;-)

  11. TomVH said he would be a 2013 recruit. I don't see this staff taking a flier on a kid that will have 2 years max and maybe only one year to play. I wish him weel and if he does have 2 years left after next year than I would like to see the staff try and get him.

  12. Talent is talent...if he can play they would recruit him. If they think he can contribute right away they will take him. Don't forget a lot of recruits don't end up seeing the field until their junior year. If he's ready to go then I don't see any reason why they wouldn't want to take him. Julia he would be able to transfer with only one year of credits, however, they would take his high school coursework into consideration. Now in the article about him someone posted, he and his father both say they met the minimum requirements to be considered for the University of Michigan. Time will tell to see if it works out for him and U of M. Hopefully it will because he's an amazing talent, but even more so because he will receive a great education and great mentors in our coaching staff and upper classmen.

  13. If the Big House is a kids dream destination then I'm all for him. 2013 will be a big enough class. It takes a lot of heart to get back up again and prove yourself like he did. I think he has a shot after Marell Evans returned, even though the school situation is different. I want kids who want to be here. That's all there is to it.

  14. Go to WTKA website and listen to the recruiting round up with Sam Webb. He talks about Demar on there, pretty good insight to what he thinks about the whole deal.

  15. Good luck to Demar but this thread should be about the talented Mr. Dunn. The kid is a big time future star and with all the stud OLs coming in, he will be unstoppable. He will play as a freshman. UM's pro style offense is perfect for him. His cousin will be his teammate. A degree from UM, one of the top schools on the planet. Forget whatever chaos is percolating at Osu, the decision to come to Michigan will be the best one he ever makes.

  20. There is not one kid on our current roster from a community college. It's not happening.

  21. Dunn in an Urban Meyer Offense??? unlikley. Has Meyer had any great running backs?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just because there isn't one on our roster now doesn't mean it won't happen. It has happened in the past so no reason to believe that if he qualifies that he wouldn't. Don't read too much into the Urban Meyer to the *ucknuts thing either...they're just pipe dreaming at this point. OSU doesn't even know what kind of sanctions they will be facing, no coach in his right mind would take that job without knowing. Besides it doesn't really make sense if he left Florida which was a perfect situation for him to go to a program where he'd have to bring in all different players. It just doesn't really fit.

  23. @oubobcat20

because 99% of kids good enough to play D1 ball don't go to community colleges.

  24. It's not that they aren't good enough it's that they don't qualify with their high school grades...
