Wayne Morgan Update

Probably should have posted this a while ago; because when ESPN's Recruiting page beats me too it, thats unacceptable. (Don't get me wrong, I like their evaluations, but the recruiting coverage is suspect at best).

Defensive back Wayne Morgan (Brooklyn, NY) has announced a top two of Michigan and Rutgers, despite having offers from the likes of Alabama, Penn State and Miami. Originally Morgan had the Scarlet Knights as his clear favorite, but after a visit to Michigan at the end of March, the Wolverines were level.

Morgan is almost 200lbs but still runs in 4.4's. He currently plays Free Safety for his high school team, but is being recruited as a CB by most schools. Still, its always good having a backup plan if he outgrows the CB position.

He doesn't have a recruiting time line in place, so a decision could come at any point. Hopefully Michigan can get him back on campus to seal the deal.

  1. Don't sweat it Benji,I'm sure most people like me never go to ESPN before we check this site. Anyways is Morgan your #1 cb you want this year? Seems like a lot of people would prefer Armani Reeves.

  2. Well I'd prefer Terry Richardson over Morgan and Reeves, but it's hard to tell where we stand with TR.

  3. cullen christian is transferring, according to someone on scout.com.......what a bummer

  4. WBDREW,to be honest with you I really don't mind if he transfer. With so much talent in the 2012 class that we are in on we can use the room. Also a former four * still not in the two deep is not a good sign.

  5. still though, i thought he had potential to be an impact player with his size

  6. yeah you hate to "give" up on a kid so soon but for some reason latley our higher profile recruits have been some what bad. I wish him well but he wont be the last transfer this year.

  7. @ Worm and Benji

    Richardson 5'9 4.6 40 time

    Reeves 5'11 4.35 40 time

    Morgan 5'11 4.4 40 time

why would you want Richardson a smaller and slower prospect ??? We need to get faster and more physical ... Give me Reeves and Morgan let Richardson go to Oregon

  8. Richardson is a great cover corner. Speed isn't the end all be all. I for one would be glad with any of the 3.

  9. Speed kills and we dont have much ... What we need to do is get back to the shutdown CB's we use to have .. We need LB's that run 4.6 not anyone in the secondary

  11. Cullen Christian is really transferring?! Dang that sucks. Losing him is not good, and it sure isn't good just to free up a spot for someone we DON'T have yet

  12. Well we'll have to wait and see until its confirmed. I really had high hopes for CC when he came to UM, but he hasn't seemed to have developed that well. I hope he stays, but wish him well if he decides to move on.

As for the TR debate, I guarantee he's faster than 4.6 in the forty; he's at least a 4.5 guy. Plus his coverage skills are very good, and we want to land the best in state talent.

TR's offer sheet is also far superior to those other two guys; Alabama, USC, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma...

Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy with any of them, but if you give me the choice, I'd take TR

  13. Sounds like Morgan maybe our best bet at landing a 4* db this year but if CC does leave then we can take two. I'm more interseted in the D-Line.By the way I LOVE the fact that the Bucknuts voted Wormely the #1 player in the state. It will kill OSU fans if we land the #1 player in football and basketball in Ohio!

  14. Benji, I read on Bleacher report that they think Jordan Diamond going to the Irish and Jordan Simons going to UCLA.Say thats not true

  15. Man, just like a coach, you have to give them time, just because they are stars their first 2 years doesn't mean they can't be good. ESPECIALLY with our lack of experience on D.

  16. Lol, I can assure you Michigan is still the firm leader for Jordan Diamond. Bleacher report has filed many incorrect reports in the past, so I just ignore them now.

  17. Cullen Christian had a good spring so far in practices. I think he's just a late bloomer. He'll get good playing time if he stays this year. And probably will be able to start next year

  18. I think Cullen Christian is better suited at FS than corner based on his athleticism, skillset and size. If he were to stay at UM, I'd like to see him make the position switch.

Otherwise, I'd take all of Morgan, Reeves and Richardson if they were to come our way. Accumulate talent. Similarly, I would take all of RJS, Ringer, Ross and Bolden. I'd rather have an additional 4* LB for depth than take a project/sleeper at another position that has a lower chances of becoming a contributor. Plus, there's always some level of attrition.

  19. Strange as it may sound (and it runs counter to previous experience) Michigan actually has considerable depth in the defensive backfield now. The players from last year have been condensed by eliminating the hybrid-safety spot in the lineup, and last years players are a year older and much MUCH better coached. Plus with our 2 starting CB's recovering the backups are getting all of the attention, PLUS some of the backfield talent RR recruited to fix the backfield were redshirted and are now playing. (plus-plus) 2 of the Hoke DB recruits are good enough to start as Freshmen. Pass coverage was definitely a problem last year, but now depth isn't. In fact this recent attrition seems to be caused by too many DB's and safeties. We might not have room for 2 DB's so if Morgan pulls the trigger then Terry Richardson might go out of state.

  21. I don't know why people think we don't have depth at linebacker. We have about 10 players that play LB and most of them could start: Cam Gordon, Marell Evans, J.B. Fitzgerald, Isaiah Bell, Mike Jones, Kenny Demens, Jordan Paskorz, Kevin Leach, Brandon Herron, Jake Ryan, Brandin Hawthorne can play LB as well
