Zeke Pike to Auburn

I actually posted this from an iPhone a couple hours ago, but I guess it didn't work.

As I'm sure you're well aware of by now, QB Zeke Pike has verbally agreed terms with the Auburn Tigers....oohh that was a cheapshot. But seriously, I hate Auburn, so I don't care.

This is a blow to Michigan's chances of a top 10 class, as Pike would have attracted other names to look at Michigan, but overall its not a huge loss; there are MANY other players that are more important to this class.

Still, Michigan wants a QB for next year, so here's a quick list of the candidates:

- Maty Mauk: Looks like a ND lean, but what if they land Gunner Kiel?
- Bennie Coney: Michigan is still in his top five, so hopefully he'll visit
- Austin Appleby: He'll be camping this summer to earn an offer
- Brian Blackburn: Similar to Appleby's situation

At this point I'll guess that Appleby is the most likely to end up in the class.

  1. System or not Mauk's numbers are amazing!

  2. Mauk likes ND and Missouri more than UM right now, so we probably won't get him.

  3. Shane Morris is the coaching staffs target for the teams future so even if Kiel or Pike committed they'd get passed over. Shane Morris is a sophomore and he's already better than any of the 2012 qb's by far. I'm wondering just how many total kids will be in this years class. Some say only 18, others 22+. We need a guy or 2 at each position, but they're especially building depth on both lines so once the 8 or 10 local kids sign up how many will there be room for?

  4. At the moment we only have 16 scholarships to give out for this class (I think). By the time signing day rolls around, it will probably be 18-20 (max).

  5. I know Morris is younger but does Morris project better than Pike? Does the fact that he's a southpaw hurt him at all?

  6. Michel,

Nobody is saying 22+. Why get 2 players at each position? We need OL and DL depth. We don't need more than 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, and 1 CB. I think we'll only take 3 LBs (because Biggs seems unlikely to come to Michigan after we get Ringer, RJS and Bolden) and 2 TEs. So that's 9 out of 18 projected spots. Michigan should take 4 OL and 4 DL guys so that leaves 1 spot for an elite player to sign (like DGB, Noah Spence, Keith Marshall, or Jarron Jones).

  7. I said 1 or 2 (like 2 WR's and 2 RB's or maybe 2 TE's)Looking at 19 spots if Cullen Christian does indeed transfer.. Maybe they'll over-recruit by 1 or 2 if they see enough talent they want this year but I doubt Hoke will do that. Breaking down the # of offers at each position compared to the 18-20 spots available it looks like my count is right on with yours. We're about to lose a bunch of our receivers but some of that will be offset by TE's I imagine.

  8. Just looking at Morris on video he's head and shoulders above this years recruits. He has a good enough deep ball and arm strength, but his footwork (especially when mobile) is excellent and his accuracy is very, very good. He can thread the needle, shot over one defender and under the next, but his biggest bonus is other quarterbacks can't fake and he can. They stare down there one receiver for a 5 count and then throw right to him every time where Morris takes the ball and checks each man quickly then picks his man and can at times even throw him open. Watching Kiel and Pike and then watching Morris is like watching old video of Michael Vick throwing and then watching him throw from last year.

  9. Are we considered an 'IN' with Morris?

  10. We were his first offer, and I believe him and his family are UM fans, so yeah, I think we're 'in'.

  11. Am I the only one that doesn't see anything in Mauk. his highlights look terrible and just a bunch of crazy scrambling. I'm sick of seeing that and would perfer set plays. Gunner Kiel would be great and is way better.

  12. Pike will be another Ryan Leaf in the making.

  13. I think Auburn is good for Pike. He is quoted on ESPN as saying "I feel like a million bucks". So much for caps!!!! There some great talent out there and I trust our coaches. We'll land our share and then some

  14. I just want to take one last shot at Pike and Auburn. I read somewhere that Pike said god told him to go to Auburn. So was that what god meant when it says in god we trust on the back of the money he may have received? And I also read that Jordan Diamond had a very good visit at Auburn. Now it they sign him my head will explode and the ncaa needs to look at that.

  16. What are these parents thinking when they let their kids go off to these schools......In-ground pool, SUV, RV???? I have four daughters so I'll never need to worry about this but if I did, I wouldn't want them going to a dirty program. The NCAA doesn't have the balls to deal with this. What some kids won't do for a statue!!

  17. I am just going to throw this out there for people but I really think Michigan should recruit my cousin. He hasn't gotten a lot of hype because he tore his ACL last year in his junior season. He's 6'5 210, the kid has an arm like a cannon and is unbelievably intelligent (family trait lol). He is honestly a Tom Brady type, underrated but the drive of a champion. He's apparently gotten calls from UM as well as IU, PSU, MSU, OSU, Toledo, Duke, and Cincy. He would be great for the transition to the pro-style system Hoke wants to use and the kid will do anything to win. Check him out, Colin Michael.

  18. Brain The only advice I can tell you is to make some visits to Michigan. And video every game make a tape and send it to Michigan. I hope he heals up and has a great season and he find the right school for him.

  19. He's already visited Ann arbor before. They are aware of him. It's just how high on their list he is? that's the question.
