Offensive lineman will certainly be the focus of this recruiting class, and it looks like Michigan are in on a few good ones. UM leads for Jordan Diamond (Chicago, IL) who will probably be a high four star prospect, but he might not even be the top lineman UM get!
The Wolverines have been heavily recruiting OT Zach Banner (Lakewood, WA), and it appears to be paying off. Banner, like Diamond is an early four star recruit on scout.com and figures to be one of the top players in the class of 2012. He has offers from virtually every school in the country, but Michigan and Coach Brady Hoke are doing their best to stand out from the pack.
Banner will take all five official visits this fall, and has named Michigan as a probable destination for one of those, along with USC, LSU, Alabama and Notre Dame. Schools closer to home will also get unofficial visits.
It's still early in his recruitment process, he won't even have a top 10 for another couple of months, but Michigan has made a good start here and has a serious chance.
How great would it be to have Diamond and Banner in the same class?
I hope we can get both but I really want some big, power guards. What do you think of some of the guard's we are going after or are we done there with Braden and Stacy?
ReplyDeleteI like that were in a good position for both but i dont see it happening. And also how are we looking on wide receivers i know were in need of some young pass catchers?
ReplyDeleteWorm: I think Braden will start off at Tackle given his frame, but Stacey is a good edition to the Guard spot. I would have liked to get Dan Voltz for OG, but you can't win them all. Another guy to look out for is in state OG Kelby Latta, an ESPN150 watch lister. I think he started off an MSU lean, but a recent visit to Michigan really balanced things out.
ReplyDeleteRobert: Michigan will need to take two WRs in this class, and there's a rumor going around that Dorial Green-Beckham might be visiting this spring/summer, so look out for that. He's a 5* guy.
Benji do you think that there is even a shot at landing the two offensive guys from Good Counsel, diggs and Brown I believe? They both said that they want to play together in college and we got one of their teammates and good friends last year in blake countess, and yet neither seems to be coming up for a visit.
ReplyDeleteI think we have a shot, but I'm not that confident with either prospect right now, purely because they haven't been talking about Michigan much.
ReplyDeleteHowever, both Diggs and Brown will be visiting Michigan in early/mid April. I was going to post something about this but I don't know for sure which weekend they are visiting on. Sam Webb mentioned something about them visiting on his radio show. Hopefully we'll hear more on that in the next few days.
Oh wow thanks haven't listened to sam's show much lately, so that could be why i didn't hear anything.
ReplyDeleteBenji are we in the hunt for any rb's In this class? Who are the top prospects?
ReplyDeleteWell Michigan took two good RB prospects last year in Hayes and Rawls, so I wouldn't say there is a huge need for a RB in this class. However, Hoke likes to take at least one per class, because he says RBs are usually athletic enough to play defense or WR if RB doesn't work out.
ReplyDeleteAs for 2012 prospects, Keith Marshall is the top guy on the board, but thats a pretty unrealistic target. Another longshot is Brionte Dunn, an Ohio State commit; at least with him we know we're getting a visit this spring.
Greg Garmon and Donovan Roberts are two other RBs with Michigan offers.
Thanks I agree it's not a dier need this year. Do u think cox is lookin like the starting back this year? To early to tell?
ReplyDeleteProbably too early to tell. Smith, Cox, Hopkins and Fitz are all doing well, plus Mike Shaw will enter the mix once he gets healthy. It really is a wide open competition.
ReplyDeleteI read many rumors about Zach Banner on this Host Pay Per Head site, but maybe they are just rumors, among them, I heard that he is going to commit for another team
