Anthony Standifer decommits

Three star CB commit Anthony Standifer has decommitted from Michigan this week, apparently in some kind of mutual decision. This means both he and the coaching staff thought it was best. I don't know what the situation was, maybe he wasn't happy about UM looking at a 5th defensive back (Yuri Wright and possibly Armani Reeves are set to visit).

Standifer was only a three star prospect, but he had very nice film and is a bigger CB, which can be useful for the team. In the end though, if we get Yuri Wright as his replacement, then that's fine with me, since Yuri is in the 6'1-6'2 range and rated much higher.

For the class as a whole, this gives Michigan five spaces left. They ideally want Brionte Dunn, Yuri Wright, a Tight End, Jehu Chesson and a 6th OL.

Also, one has to wonder how this will affect our chances with Standifer's teammate, 2013 WR LaQuon Treadwell, who currently has Michigan as his leader.

  1. Unconfirmed word on the street is that it was grade related

  2. Yeah, that's what everyone is saying. There were rumors that someone in this class wasn't going to make the grades, so I guess it was Standifer.

  3. Treadwell has already came and said that this in no way effects where he will go to school.

  4. I wish him luck where ever he goes. This will for sure change alot of things for UM.If UM gets Wright then Reeves would be a plus but not really needed. I would use this spot for a D linemen. I would like to take 1 CB, 1WR, 1 OL, 1 DT and a player to fill a need weather its a OL or DL or what ever. Either way UM will be just fine in the end.

    GBN,
I can't take credit for reporting Standifer decommitting on yesterday post. I actually read it on a live chat with Ace Williams. Please don't think bad of me for reading the chat.LOL. It was not from Ace it was from someone else. Just don't want to take credit for someone else.

  5. On another note, RR is mouthing off that he would have won 10 games this year. "Those are my guys"...Why does he not say that Molk, Huyge, Woolfolk, Hemminger were all Carr's guys?

Standifer decommits. Hate to see a guy do this, but it happens. Sounds like we have some people that are looking at Michigan that could fill his spot. This might make it easier for Yuri Wright to come on board.

    Go Blue!

  6. This is off topic but ESPN lists Allen Gant as a WR. Is that where the coaches plan on playing him. This maybe a great move for Allen give him early playing time.

  7. North,
We all know RR would never win 10 games with Greg Robinson as his DC. He should keep his mouth closed and be happy with the job he has.

  8. Gant will come in and try both wr and db. Which ever he is best at they will keep him there. He had way better #'s as a wr than a db this year. We really don't need another d-linemen. They have already said that Wormely and Stroble and Godin will flip back and forth from DT and DE. The whole thing with Dunn I really don't care if he comes here or not AS LONG as we get Isaac next year. We can NOT miss out on a stud RB this year and next year.

  9. Standifer's mom has came out and said that grades were not the determining factor and that he is still a D1 qualifier; however, D1 requirements and Michigan requirements aren't the same. (SeVon Pitman and Aaron Burnbrige) #spartytrash

  11. What is the odds we land Reeves? Seems like I read that he was going to stay committed to Penn St. until they announce the new coach. I really think after losing a CB we could afford to add 2 now. From what I understand Reeves can also play at a high level as a wr.

  12. If the NCAA lets PSU kids transfer like they did USC. Those kids will transfer. PSU is trying to act like Joe Pa never coached there. Those kids were very loyal to Joe Pa and to see PSU board of trustees turn there back on him. I am sure that hurts them.

  13. This has nothing to do with grades. Michigan mis-lead this kid and their 100% wrong. Anthony's grade are fine, and he's a excellent student. Furthermore, Treadwell wasn't coming to Michigan even if Standifer was coming. Michigan's offense doesn't fit his style, Treadwell is going to Oklahoma State where his uncle is a professor there.

  14. Anonymous, Your not fooling anyone. Sorry that your son/friend/nephew/neighbor/classmate isn't coming to Michigan but it's no reason to jump from Michigan blog to Michigan blog bad mouthing the university. If Treadwell wants to go to a college in a conference with only 3 real teams then be my guest. Big 12 football is now a joke and everyone knows it.

  15. Kb hate to say this, but with the addition of tcu and west Virginia they may be as good as the big 10 or better. I eat, sleep, and breath big 10 football, but your looking at this kind of like a sec fan looks at himself in the mirror. Ok now to the hater! I don't think he is a big 12 fan, I think he is a Ohio St. Fan, all hopped up on hater-aid! You guys suck this year, just deal with it!

  16. KB it is what it is, the kid was mis-led and it was wrong. Michigan offered more kids than they had scholoarships. You're also correct, I know both Anthony and Treadwell very well. Treadwell was never coming to Michigan, how is that bad mouthing Michigan? If he wants to play at a NAIA school he has that right. I was giving insight to what occured to Standifer, and his grades are great. However, you'll see Standifer @ Nebraska. Good Luck to Michigan, I don't bad mouth kids and I hope those guys do well in there bowl game. Bottom Line is Michigan Coaching was wrong in how they handled this situation, you don't do kids like this.

  17. I don't post a lot but I'll say this. He started his original comment by saying it was rumor. That said, its not fair to go too far with this as we're talking about a 17 or 18 y.o. kid. I know I wouldn't want people saying the same about my kid, true or not. Would you? As far as the last Nebraska thing, Nebraska is by far the lowest ranked university in the Big 10 and most likely have different admission standards than Northwestern or Michigan (ranked 12 and 28) or even Wisconsin or Penn St. (ranked 42 and 45). Nebraska is #101.

  18. Goblueinohio, So every recruit that attends a Michigan game will sign with Michigan? Would you turn down free tickets to the first ever night game at the Big House against Notre Dame? How about turning down free tickets to see Michigan and Ohio State? Come on now lets be real, thats why Treadwell came to the game. He doesn't dislike Michigan, its a great school. I'm just giving insight to the standifer deal and telling you Treadwell is going to Oklahoma State where his uncle is a Professor. So not talking out of my ass, just stating facts!

  19. It was grades and poor attitude, it went to his head and he thought he could just coast because he is a senior and he thought he had it all in the bag and it back fired.

  20. I'm a parent sitting with my son, An SEC football athlete. These blogs are horrible. I personally had the opportunity to meet Anthony, as well as his mother last season while visiting IL. This is college, not the NFL. It's about bringing MONEY to the schools. Some of these recruiting coaches over do it by TOO Many Promises for offers, and not enough available scholarships. Why is it always the athletes fault, and not the Athletic Department of the institution. Let's look at the big picture. An athlete has every right to change his mind. If you want to talk academics. Ivy league is the best academic choice for education mixed with athletics. They DO NOT GIVE ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS. All of those young men work hard to stay there and play. Leave these young men alone. It's their decision to re-cant their commitment.

  21. The problem with Anonymous' post is the use of the word mislead / misled. The way it is used, it seems to me that Anonymous was insinuating that Michigan's staff promised something to Standifer during the recruitment process that did not materialize. Would Anonymous please enlighten us what this "misleading" is about?
