Firstly, the big news this week will be the announcement of WR Jehu Chesson, who is expected to make his collegiate decision tomorrow. Michigan fans are optimistic, as they should be, you'd figure that UM wins a recruiting battle against Iowa and Northwestern! Plus there is a great opportunity for Chesson to play early, UM loses Odoms and Hemingway after the bowl, so playing time is up for grabs. PLUS, Chesson knows he's guaranteed to have a high caliber QB throwing him the ball throughout his UM career.
In other news, in state offensive lineman Dan Gibbs will take an official visit to Michigan soon. He's a three star prospect on some sites, and a very smart guy (considering Penn and Dartmouth), so he'd probably be a good fit at Michigan. If he gets offered, it could end his recruitment right then, if not, maybe he'll get a preferred walk on spot. I'd imagine Michigan will wait until they know where they stand with the likes of Kozan, Garnett, Diamond etc before offering Gibbs.
Is Chesson really that good?? Why is he not rated very high by the services. I know we say not to pay attention to stars but these scouting services have to know something about these guys???? Why not wait it out to see if we have a chance at elite level receiver instead of taking anybody that will commit??
ReplyDeleteI believe Chesson is a 4* recruit with good size and speed. Plus he wants to be a Michigan Man!
ReplyDeleteWord is the OSU sanctions, or lack there of, will be announced at 3 pm today.
Columbus Dispatch reporting 1 yr bowl ban, loss of 4 more scholies, and one more year of probation. If this is true, I think the NCAA actually got it right.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Urbie will convince everyone to redshirt next...
ReplyDeleteI don't know if they got it right but that school in ohio needs to get some sort of significant penalty and a one year bowl ban is nothing to sneeze at. They are the dirtiest program north of dixie though and the Meyer hire has to show the NCAA that tsio is not serious about compliance and will be a school that they need to keep tabs on.
ReplyDeleteDoes this change anything for Dunn????
ReplyDeleteHow do they do the scholarships?? is that 4 a yr to make the total 81 for the next three years or is it just 4 over the next three years??
ReplyDeleteBased on what they actually took the time to prove, this is more than I thought they'd get. I think if the Terrell Pryor cars thing was proven they would have lost more scholarships and had a longer bowl ban. In the end I want them to be punished, but I still want a good OSU team so the rivalry is big time. It's more fun to beat a good OSU team!

ReplyDelete4 more total on top of the 5 they voluntarily took. If the report is true, it's 3 scholarships per year for three years.
ReplyDeleteSo just to make sure I am getting this correct pertaining to the scholarships. A total of nine less scholarships per year for the next three years. Let me know if I got this correct?
ReplyDeleteSo that puts them at a max of 16 per year with a total of 85 at one time.
Does anyone know if this starts this year or 2013 recruiting?
Correct that is a total of 9 over three years. So a max of 22 can be taken per year if they don't exceed a roster size of 85.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the report on ESPN, it's 4 scholarships per year for the next 3 years. Plus the loss of 5 scholarships over 3 years that Ohio imposed on itself.
ReplyDeleteIn total it's 17 scholarships over the next 3 years.
I suspect that Ohio will find ways to get around the scholarship losses. I'm confident they'll do so in dirty/cheating ways.
ReplyDeleteMaybe not going to bowls for longer might have actually hurt them since there is no way they could find ways around that. Seems the highly ranked recruits need to be in the spotlight and not having a bowl is the ultimate punishment.
Well that's more then I thought they would get. Still not sure why they got less then USC?
ReplyDeleteIf you are questioning the UM Coaches offer & possible verbal from Chesson, then you need not to comment.
ReplyDeleteHow many times is this issue going to be debated?
Im sorry but im not an avid poster and was unaware of any rules of ettiquite when posting. If in fact there are some then you should go back and check yourself. I didn't know asking a question was some sort of sin in your pathetic world. .
ReplyDeleteIf ESPN is right and it's 17 scholarships, that's a pretty big hit.
ReplyDeleteIt apparently is. Months ago, Matthew Godin's commitment was questioned. So there, I went back in time in my pathetic little world.
ReplyDeleteMr. Chesson, if AA fits you, then welcome aboard sir.
This has nothing to do with ohio but kevin koger and chris wormleys high school coach at whitmer here in ledo is leaving for a high school in michigan cant hurt to have another coach in michigan that likes brady hoke help keep some michigan kids in michigan
ReplyDeleteToledo sorry
ReplyDelete@GoBluePaulie91 Rittenberg just posted on the B1G blog that in total it is only 9.... this is laughable.
ReplyDeleteNCAA might as well say cheat and win, if you are ever caught you'll only get a scholies taken away....
I hope Chesson goes Blue. I just watched his highlight videos again. He will be a really good receiver for us. I'm not sure about any of the star ratings.
ReplyDeleteHe looked like he was thrown a ton of jump balls that he came down with. He ran a few really good fad routes. Most the rest of the highlight videos he was double teamed or caught the ball in good coverage. The videos did nt really show off his speed since he was getting hit almost every pass he caught but he did manage to get yards after contact.
All in all if he is only given 3 stars I'd say it is a strong 3. If he was going to the SEC or Texas he'd get 4 or 5 stars.
I don't comment much, but thought I should clear something up. OSU will drop a total of 9 scholarships over the next three years. Not 17 as some have suggested.
ReplyDeleteCompared to USC who lost 30 over three years. The big difference is that the NCAA could not get people to testify. One refused out of fear for their life... I'll leave it at that.
@illinoisblue I was just watching his highlights to I completely agree he looks like he can help denard next year I so hope we can get him
ReplyDeleteI have always respected players and managers's decisions and this one I do not understand it, but I do respect it, and I would have liked to bet on this decision through host pay per head services, but I missed it!
