Brionte Dunn Update

Michigan has an in home visit with Dunn today, but the big news recently is that Dunn will visit Ohio State this weekend on his official visit. A trip to Michigan will probably take place the following weekend.

I'm not sure if it's better to go first or last in these situations, but we have to remember that there's always a chance he could firm up his commitment to OSU on this visit, which would mean UM won't get another shot. That probably/hopefully won't happen, but it's something to keep in mind.

  2. On the incoming Freshman contributor topic, here is an article from annarbor.com. They note the d-line as the biggest concern/open area next year, because of Martin and Van Bergen graduating. Pipkins was noted as the most likely contender for playing time, but Wormley and Strobel were also mentioned.

  3. I went to the same high school as Anthony Zettel and grew up with him. He has been discussing transferring too, depending on who the new head coach is. Word is that he would only really like to transfer to Michigan.

  4. @superduperluke... not cool to repost stuff from paid places like the Den. Especially when TomVH explicitly asks you not to.

You went so far as to cut and paste...

  5. What coach urban meyer tells this Dunn kid has to be b.s. He is a excellent coach and all but to get a runningback that doesnt fit your system then I say wow.If dunn really thinks he can rush for 20 times a game, then go ahead and go to OSU. But when he sits from sideline and watches the tim tebows of the team get all of the attention, whether good or bad, dont cry because you dont touch the ball enough. Meanwhile, the Michigan fans will be watching Al Borges make something out of nothing out of a 2 or 3 star runningback. Hope Brionte makes the right decision and best of luck to him.
    Go BLUE!!!

  6. Anthony Zettel would not be eligible for a scholarship in the Big Ten conference. He could come to Michigan as a walk-on.

  7. To be honest, letting Dunn slip away wouldn't be the end of the world. He most likely won't flourish in Meyer's system and therefore would not hurt UofM, especially since Fitz has emerged as a real player this year. However, Ty Isaac looks to be an outstanding RB for 2013. He should be in the top 5 RBs in the country. Lots of good talent in Illinois for 2013.

  8. I would be happy to have Dunn come to this class but wouldn't mind filling one of those limited spots left with a more needed position. UM is deep at RB, and Fitz seems to be emerging as the back for the next couple years anyway. Unless the interest out there from many other top prospects for UM isn't what it seems to be, maybe Dunn should slip. Bottom line though, I trust the staff on whomever they take.

  9. If Dunn goes to OSU, we won't see him for 3, maybe 4 years, because of the depth and the system. The reason why osu wants him so bad is public relations - if he flips all the urbie kool-aid drinkers are going to freak. The kid is just a pawn to them.

If he wants to play he'll commit to us, and if he wants to wait a few years he'll commit to them. That simple. For sure Urbie will lie to him and say that the 4 guys in front of him and the other 4 star) that they are bringing in will all sit on the bench to let Bri'onte play.

  10. @northernmi

True, thats what I heard from his parents. Isn't it only for his first year though, after that he can earn a scholarship?

  11. I am on the fence about Dunn. On one hand UM would have a nice one two punch with him and Rawl after Tossiant graduates and on the other hand Um does not really need another RB. In the end I would welcome Dunn if he goes Blue and if he goes else where I wish him the best of luck.

I would like UM to add a couple more O and D linemen. One of each would be nice.

Todd mentioned that Anthony Zettel maybe intersted in transfering to UM. I believe he would have to sit out a year then play. So if he did transfer to UM I am not sure when his scholarship would start 2012 or 2013. I think UM would take another WR this year. Diggs I hope.

  12. @Todd
He can’t get a scholarship from any Big Ten school and he would still have to sit out a year. The scholarship rule applies throughout his college years. He could receive a scholarship outside the Big Ten conference. I am sure he wishes he was playing for Hoke and Mattison.

    I wish he was too.

  13. @Todd,
When Justin "The Traiter" Boren transfered to ohio, his old man had to pay the rest of the way. I can understand the rule. If Penn State violated some kind of NCAA rule, then the NCAA could probably waive the rule. Just like USC players could tranfer anywhere they wanted and not sit out a year. I don't think that's going to happen in this case.

  14. You guys keep talking about depth at Running Back. Where is the depth at? Smith is gunna be a senior, and isn't exactly the back of choice; Justice Hayes is moving to the slot come spring ball; michael Cox isn't exactly good; jihad Rasheed is whatever idk, Shaw is gone; Toussaint is the guy, but he's only got 2 years left; hopkins is the fullback atm and he wasn't good enough to hold the starting spot earlier in the year; Rawls nobody really knows if he's gunna be good yet; and then Johnson comes in as a freshman but he may or may not be that diamond in the rough. So I would think Dunn would be a huge get for this team.

  15. BTW, Here's what Dunn is contemplating: At OSU there is a Head Coach that has never had a 1,000 yard back, runs the spread which Dunn doesn't want to play in, has sanctions coming there way, another top 5 RB in this class, and coming off a 6-6 season. At Michigan there's playing time, A pro offense which he likes, Borges had Cadillac and Brown, and him and Hoke had Fitz rush for over 1,000 in their first season at UM, also had 1,000 yard back in Hillman at SDSU. Coach Jackson has had numerous running backs enter the NFL ala Wheatley, Perry, Thomas etc and No sanctions, plus one of the top recruiting classes next year, with a monster O-Line with his friend Kalis, and his Cousin committed, and coming off a 10-2 season with the Sugar Bowl. And this is still 50/50?! B.S. He's just enjoying the ride. If he hasn't committed to UM yet, he's never going to.

  16. e2,
UM can't have 10 of there total 85 scolarships going to RBs. Specially if UM goes after another couple of RBs next year.

    ReplyDelete
  17. As other's have said, if Dunn goes with his head its U of M, it its his heart its OSU. I would love him in Maize and Blue but if he doesn't commit I wouldn't be that upset and best of luck to him at OSU, there are other recruit's I would rather have over him. Another O lineman, a TE, a WR and Wright.

On a side note, did anyone else hear Kansas hired Charlie Weis.....um wtf?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Look for Weis to go right after Gunner Kiel.

  19. Dunn isnt Blue... And its fine. Im not to sad about martin and RVB leaving. Yes they will be missed but didnt GM want to move more towards a 3-4 in the future? Maybe wrong but im glad we have strong set of linebackers. Lastly whats chances of more transfers? In or out?

    ReplyDelete
  20. In WR news, did anyone else see that TomVH is reporting that Deanthony Arnett is a likely transfer from the Vols...I'm thinking that could be a nice pickup for us...

    ReplyDelete
  21. There is some rumors out there about Standifer. Has anybody hear anything. Rumor has it his grade are not good enough.

    ReplyDelete
  22. On Scouts paywall they are saying IM is getting one more OV maybe two. Can anybody see it and let us know? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Jer89 i think they are talking about the possibility of Armani Reeves visiting.

    ReplyDelete
  24. There is talk about Reeves coming in this weekend. There are also rumours about a recruit having grade issues but I can't find any mention of who. Guessers are guessing it's a DB/Safety based on more love going out to kids in that position.

I wonder now that the B1G is becoming more involved in the Sandusky mess if they'll consider a waiver for transfers. This not not a mess brought on by the kids and the B1G must understand that some kids/families would want to distance themselves from the impending doom. If your not aware of it, the B1G has issued a letter to PSU saying that they want to be involved in the fact finding and then possibly impose sanctions for Lack of Institutional Control. 25. GBN,
    I hear its Anthony Standifer.

    ReplyDelete
  26. UGH...... That would make sense with getting Reeves back in the fold.

On another note, I posted this at the end of the Yuri Wright update so have no feedback. I'd be interested in your opinions.

"Yuri Wright and Armani Reeves are reportedly going to arm wrestle for the CB spot. News and film at 11. This is a win-win. Is it just me or does it look like the coaches want this class filled before NSD.

This is simply a personal thing but I like the kids that do their homework and once they decide what's best for them, they commit. Waiting for NSD kind of stinks of "hey look at me".

Looking for others thoughts. Do we start taking our 2nd, 3rd and maybe 4th choices or take the pick of the litter and save one or two spots for NSD hoping for that rock star commit and knowing that we can always "settle" (I hate that word) then"

    ReplyDelete
  27. @ GBN

the rumors are that Anthony Standifer's grades are slipping, hes a CB. But they are just rumors, to my knowledge.

I would like to see the B1G impose a "slide" on the scholarship rule, I think we may be able to lure a recruit away from PennSt, as mentioned above, Anthony Zettel.

  28. Just got accused of trolling on MGoBlog for calling out Michigan fans for the countless "Fat" comments they're making about Weiss. My only point was that this is how Buckeye fans talk about Hoke......non-stop and it just seems a little juvenile. Criticize somebody's coaching ability but the old your coach is fatter than our coach...... Man, I'm getting old (but not fat!!)

    ReplyDelete
  29. GBN,
I agree with you. I don't know why so many people out there call people names and the language is uncalled for.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @GBN
I'm not gunna laugh at how fat he is, I'm gunna laugh at the fact that he can't stay at a job for more than 1 year!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Now that I think is cool....... It's like a fire sale for coaches. Now I just got flamebaited over there...... It's okay, my dad can take their dad!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. There has been alot of coaches fired this year. And Weiss won't last.

    ReplyDelete
  33. yea, I noticed everybody at Mgoblog making fun of Taco Charltons name. Like really? He could easily see that, you really think making fun of him is going to lure him to Michigan?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Did Anthony Standifer decommit? Allen Trieu is reporting that he opened up his recruiting again.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Just saw the same on Scouts......Whatupwitdat. Looks like you called it Jer.

On the coaching notes I saw that Beckman is going to Illinois. He had a great season with the Rockets....they almost beat tSIO. Hope he brings Illinois around.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yep, Standifer is out. Not takes away some pressure on Yuri now. I really want Yuri in and if Reeves joins in as well im fine. Im liking the rumors but hate that they are just rumors haha. Either way you slice it I believe this recruiting class is going out with a bang. Its going to be a bumpy uncertain ride folks.

  37. David Molk won the Rimmington Award as the best center in the country!!! Awesome acheivement!

I also came across a very positive story on Yuri Wright coming to UM.

    http://michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1304704

This is a quote from it:

"Because I couldn't take any visits during the season I have some other schools I want to see," he said. "Michigan has always been my dream school and favorite school growing up so I need to take an official visit out there. I might also take an official to Rutgers, USC or Cal and if I don't see Notre Dame before the game maybe after. I'm not really sure of any visits aside from Michigan, I will take that in January."

    ReplyDelete
  38. I just watched the awards show to see Molk win and I got 7 seconds of Molk, and 2 hours of Alabama and LSU players. SMH

    ReplyDelete
  39. Best wishes to Standifer, thats first. I think this is the reason you may have heard the "Reeves" rumors start to come in. To me it would be sort of foolish if your Michigan to try for him while we were trying to court Wright, when he seen we knows that we already have T Rich and Standifer back here, along with Wilson and Gant. Either way it either opens something up for Reeves who is rated higher then Standifer and if not, you now have room for that extra OL DT prospect? but more likely O-line with all these names they are pumping out there.

Im also considering we already have a plan for a TE.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Are grades the reason behind Standifer decommitting?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm fine with Standifer decommitting and I wish the best of luck to him, but has anyone considered how this will effect his teammate, Laquon Treadwell? I know he's a Michigan lean early on, but something like this could shake it up.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Scratch that last comment, I just read a tweet from Treadwell that was along the lines of "Anthony's decision does not effect the college I choose."

    ReplyDelete
  43. I seen the Treadwell tweet as well, but he has also shown over his tweets about missing certain college coaches as "missed" opportunities. But just watch.. they get another BIG time lineman, and the skill guys are going to come. You will see.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Congratulations to Todd, you are now the main source of an MLive article about Anthony Zettel coming to Michigan :P lol. The internet is a dangerous thing. Who knew MLive reads the comments section of this blog?
On the plus side, if Zettel does end up at UM (very unlikely), you'll have good credibility as a source :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Jabba the hoke! You know that comment was from a Ohio St. fan. Maybe even from a big 10 traitor like herbstreit. Hoke-a-mania is more like it. Or how about the incredible hoke! I for sure wouldn't mess with the hokester.

  46. forget brionte! fitz! then ty issac!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh no we want Brionte. If nothing else to make the OSU fans cry and whine about how we stole almost every good recruit out of the state of Ohio. Can you imagine a running back by committee with Dunn and Isaac. We wouldn't need to throw the ball at all. I don't think we have to, but it would be nice. I would rather see us land 2 big name db's and land another lineman like Garrett. It would also be nice to get another wr, just wish we could hold out long enough to land Diggs.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thats true! love to see ohio cry. but if we dont land dunn we still should be ok hopefully could pick up isaac next year. plus dunns heart will always be with ohio do we really want a kid not all in!! whould love to have him but no biggie if he wants to stay wiht tsio he'll just sit on the bench for 2yrs and by that time then have a percin harven type kid at ohio anyway... good luck dunn!

  49. I think that that visit for Michigan was not that easy as they expected and a popular price per head bookmaking blog foresaw this even before it all happened
