This weekend - officials here and elsewhere (Edited)

Should be a pretty important weekend for Michigan recruiting, especially if you want us to land a certain running back from Ohio...

- Brionte Dunn is visiting Ohio State this weekend, officially. The Buckeyes are rumored to have a slight advantage over Michigan in the race to sign Dunn, and there's a legitimate chance of Dunn shoring up his commitment to the Buckeyes this weekend. Urban Meyer will tell him that the NCAA won't penalize them further (probably true) and that Brionte will have great success in Meyer's offense (definitely not true). But still, if the pitch works, this hold saga could be over by tomorrow evening.
Michigan had an in home visit with Dunn yesterday, and according to Sam Webb's podcast this morning they sent Al Borges and Fred Jackson. Hopefully it all went well, and they convinced him to at least give Michigan an official visit next weekend. Whatever the case, I'll be keeping a nervous eye out for a possible story tomorrow evening.

- In more encouraging news, Michigan is pursuing Tight Ends, specifically Sam Grant, who is a 6'6 235lb prospect from St Edward H.S in Lakewood, Ohio. Does that school sound familar? It should do, because it's the home of current UM commit Kyle Kalis too! The four star offensive lineman is visiting Michigan officially this weekend and there's a good chance that he brings Grant along.
Grant is a three star (78 overall) prospect on ESPN. Oh, and I should probably mention that he's a Boston College commitment. Still, the Eagles finished 4-8 this year, and one of those wins was against an FCS team, so it's clear to see why Grant may not be 100% on board.
Things have cooled down dramatically with Pharaoh Brown, and it looks like Taylor McNamara won't visit. J.P Holtz is still an option, but we need to get him on campus soon. For the moment, Sam Grant, welcome to the projected class!

- As posted earlier, Anthony Standifer and Michigan mutually parted ways this week, meaning an extra spot opened up in the class. Even if Standifer stayed, UM would still have taken Yuri Wright, giving us 3 CBs. So we now want 2 more CBs in this class, Yuri Wright and one more.
If the rumblings today are anything to go by, that one more could be Armani Reeves; a current Penn State commit who is now looking around after the scandal. One potential obstacle to this is Reeves' current teammate, LB Camren Williams. If the two want to stay together in college, scout.com's Sam Webb stated it cannot happen at Michigan, because the Wolverines are completely full on LBs.

Personally, if they really want another DB to go along with Yuri Wright, I hope they give Wayne Morgan another look. Morgan was a silent commit to us earlier in the year before things broke down, but he's still on the market and the competition doesn't look too strong for the four star prospect.

EDIT:
- Forgot to mention the OL. Firstly Jordan Diamond is in Columbus right now, which isn't great for whatever slim chances we have with him. Secondly, there's a good chance Michigan will get a visit from Alex Kozan. He's a guy that got a late offer, but always said he'd visit; I guess now is the time. If Michigan wants a 6th OL, this could be the guy, because I don't rate our chances with Garnett, Diamond, Banner or Evan Boehm.

  1. Benji,
Great post thanks for all the hard work you do.
What are UM chances of landing Grant?
And I hear the coaches may put some pressure on Kozan to commit this weekend. Is that true? And how good is he?
Just how good do things look for landing Wright, Reeves or Morgan?

  3. Oops, forgot to write about OL...I'll add that in now.

I don't think they'll put much pressure on Kozan apart from casually saying they have 1 OL spot left. If Kozan reads blogs like this then he'll know Michigan is unlikely to get another OL in the next few weeks. Garnett, Banner, Diamond and Boehm are likely to end up elsewhere.

I couldn't find that Allen Trieu post. He hasn't tweeted it.

  4. I would also like to say that the NCAA is a joke for letting OSU to have two head coaches right now. One to coach the team in the bowl game and one to focus on recruiting. I quess the NCAA has decided not to slap OSU on the wrist but instead SLAP the rest of college football in the face. Thanks NCAA

  5. Hey! I found this site about a conversation with a Michigan recruiting insider and the news looks great! But honestly it just seems like words around a camp fire per say.

  6. Ace is pretty convinced Michigan is targeting a QB in this year class. Doesn't make much sense to me.

  7. I see his point of view. But I agree UM does not need another QB. UM needs other things first. If UM goes threw 3 QBs then they are in real trouble.

Just for fun. How many people believe Nick Saban will jet for the NFL if Bama wins the N/C?

  8. Just curious since havent seen much did anyone ready about Denard? And his Staph infection?

  9. Can't believe anyone would read the stuff Ace rights considering he thinks we will take 30 kids in this class. We all know that the Big Ten only allows a max number of 28 with early enrollees.

here is a little bit of info i found on his staph infection http://www.michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1305114

  11. Blue in GB,

UM can take 30 if 2 enroll early and UM does'nt go over the 85 total scholarships.

  12. With OSU hiring a spread style OC in Tom Herman. I would think this will help UM in the recruitment of Dunn.

  13. RE Brionte Dunn. The key thing is that Dunn does take an official to Michigan next week. Should he state he is not, then we know he's a Dunn Deal to OSU and CUM did his job.

  14. This is a thread on Bucknuts "Hoke pulling scholarships from committed kids?" I wonder if this is the line they are feeding recruits. I wouldn't want a subscription to that site therefore i could only read 1 post but they sound like they are definitely talking out of there @$$e$

  15. This from a school that hired a coach that over signs and then pull kids scholarship.

  16. i don't understand why everyone is so pressed over getting dunn like come on if the guy wanna come then i will welcome him with open arms but if he dosen't then fine people please stop acting like the world will be over if we don't land him he's good but he's commited to ohio right now so respect the fact if he stay's that's where his hart is anyways

Bucknuts have been accusing Hoke of Negative Recruiting since he got here. I like going over there and reading because I'm reminded about just how stupid they really are (and I am not a negative individual).

  18. Did anyone see the article on OSU getting a waiver to have additional coaches on staff. Apparently Luke Fickell can ready the team for the bowl, while Urban can recruit and hire coaches. I'm not sure how often it occurs, but it doesn't seem right. Brandon has started to make some noise. Seems to tip the balances toward that school in Ohio and their future handslaps. On top of going easy on them, let's also give them an advantage!

  19. I commented on this the other day. The NCAA is helping OSU not punishing them.

  20. Anyone have any idea as to why Pharaoh Brown's twitter still says "MICHIGAN BOUND FOLLOW ME"?

Maybe the coaches are still giving him a shot, but we just don't know about it... ?

  21. I read on a pay per head bookmaking sports site that Michigan is trying to recruit a couple of really good players for next season, I hope it is true!
