Quick Hitters

A few notes from 2012 and 2013 prospects:

- Jordan Diamond is setting up his official visits, he's scheduled two already, one of which is to Ohio State. I think the Urban Meyer hire has had a positive effect for his recruitment, and given his timetable for a decision, Michigan is all but out of it. The only way he'll end up in the class is if he visits Michigan officially and commits shortly after. If he waits until signing day, Michigan should be full.

- CB Yuri Wright has finished his high school career with a state championship, and possibly a national championship? Do they do that for high school football? I'm pretty sure Don Bosco prep is the consensus #1 team in the country. Anyway, Wright is now ready to take some official visits. His Michigan visit is likely to come in January.

- Michigan coaches have popped in on two top 2013 prospects from the state of Illinois recently, firstly stud RB Ty Issac, and more recently OT Logan Tuley-Tillman (per Allen Trieu's twitter). Issac is going to be a top, top prospect, so its hard to gauge our chances with him right now, although its at least encouraging that Michigan is in there early. Tuley-Tillman was a visitor for the Ohio State game and shortly after named Michigan in his top group.

- Another 2013 prospect who was at the OSU game was Ohio defensive end, Taco Charlton, and he caught up with MGoBlog's Ace to discuss his junior season and his thoughts on Michigan.

Note: From now on, whenever I remember to do so, you can click on a player's name to go to their ESPN profile.

  1. Benji, hey your doing a great job!! Sure appreciate the blog and all the info you get. I hope you can get to the BIG HOUSE soon! When you come over, you need to stay a couple of weeks to catch at least 2 games.

    GO BLUE!!

  2. I have to ask this. What is UM back up plan for some of these recruits. I agree with Benji on Diamond that ship sailed along time ago. So lets say Dunn sticks with the Luckeyes, Payton, Garnett and Banner stay out west and Wright goes to the SEC. Who does UM have in there back pocket waiting to go to UM. I not trying to be negative just want this class to finish strong and keep the rest of the B1g looking up at UM. We would all agree well most of us that UM needs another WR and I am sure they will land one most likely sooner then later. One O linemen there is alot of names being thrown around like Garnett, Banner, Goodman and Boehn. UM still wants a TE two names out there are McNamara and Holtz. Not sure if UM has a shoot at either one of these guys. So do they go back to P. Brown because lets face it he not going to the Ducks they never use a TE. Defence if there is no Wright then who and at what position. And last RB if UM can't land Dunn then I am sure they will pass on a RB.

I would live to hear everyone thoughts on this?

Of course once UM wins the Sugar Bowl recruits will be beating down the door.

  3. Looks like Erik Magnuson is going to work on McNamara. Its on twitter from Sam Webb

  4. I just read an article in a South Bend Newspaper about Gunner Kiel going to ND... ok thats fine, but it also said they are expecting Josh Garnett to commit there as well. Any word of this down the pipeline?

  5. No surprise with Kiel. Garnett would be.

If Kelly can't win with these recruits he is in trouble.

  6. Garnett to ND? I don't think so. I'd guess Stanford or Washignton for Garnett.

  9. I hope Taco doesn't read the article on mgoblog about himself. Everybody is just making fun of his name, yeah, THAT will attract him.

  10. with a name Taco, I'm sure this isn't the first time he'd hear a joke about his name.

  11. No, no national championship in high school unfortunately lol but Yuri Wright is a beast if he wants to play here we'll make room. I want him more than Dunn...I mean lets be honest, If Dunn wasn't an ohio commit and played in FLA or something I feel like we wouldnt even be recruiting him. Basically pick up Chesson, Wright, a TE and a wildcard. Thats just me.

  12. Jordan Payton has named his final 3. Does anybody know if UM is in it? It's on Scouts paid account.

  13. Wright is blue all the way - will be fun to see him with Countess locking down wrs.

So that leaves 3 spots. My attitude at this point is 1) hope Dunn is as smart as he is good, and that he realizes he will be buried on a depth chart for 3 years, and when he emerges Urbie will have his full spread in place. And 2) we already have a class that will play in a national championship or two.

  14. My final four dream team would be

    Garnett
    Wright
    Dunn
Payton - Love to snag Diggs but I think its a long shot

This Sugar Bowl game is really going to show these recruits what's up. It's the only game on that day do all eyes will be on Michigan. I'm sure our current class will be praised a well. Those who come will be champions. Those who stay will be repeat champions hahaha....
    ..Go Blue..

  15. Payton's final three are Michigan, ND and Cal.

  16. Sam Webb posted an article about Dunn behind a paywall. It also mentions "the latest on the status of five-star offensive line commit Kyle Kalis."...Has anyone checked that out? I just want someone to confirm that it is nothing to worry about and Kalis is still firmly committed to Michigan. Sorry, all of this overzealous Urban Meyer recruiting talk has me a bit concerned.

  17. per Tom VH:

Just got a text from 2012 OL Jordan Diamond (Chicago/Simeon) that said he will be taking his official visit to Michigan some time next month.

We must not be that out of it.

  18. Kalis won't leave Michigan. He's stated that multiple times.

Glad to see we made paytons top 3

Not that it really matters, but there was SLIGHT interest from Keith Marshall, he committed to Georgia today. BTW, I think that's a dumb move. They already have a stud FRESHMAN rb in isiah crowell, but w/e

  19. Brionte Dunn is scheduling his first official visit for this weekend. Just posted on scouts but I cant read if its OSU or Michigan. If anyone finds out let me know, Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  20. he's supposed to be coming to michigan this weekend. most of our current recruiting class is going to be up this weekend as well.

    ReplyDelete
  21. err...scratch that. he's going to OSU. "should" be in michigan next weekend according to TomVH.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I would rather have Dunn visit us last, so that's good news.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't want Dunn i would much rather get Ty Isaac next year that kid is a beast.

  24. per elevenwarriors.com on twitter:

5 star dual threat qb Jameis Winston will take an official to OSU soon. The long time FSU commit on being asked why he was taking a visit to OSU, "Urban Meyer!". Winston is the top dual threat qb in the nation from Hueytown, AL and chose FSU over Alabama and Auburn. He shut down his recruitment months ago but has now reopened it to OSU and FSU only. But Braxton will only be a sophmore next year, why would he come?!?!?!?! Why would Cam Newton come to Florida when Tim Tebow was a sophomore? Urban Meyer.

It looks like we are all over TE's since cutting lose Pharroah Brown. We have been in contact with McNamara, JP Holtz, and some Boston College commit since Brown was cut loose which doesn't bode well for the scholarship offer reopening for Brown.

    Hoke and company mean business.

    ReplyDelete
  25. and apparently the jameis winston kid is opening his recruitment up even more because he had a visit with alabama last weekend. cmon Saban, do work! haha.

The TE we are trying to poach from BC is Sam Grant. 6'6" 235lbs from the Cleveland area.

  26. Dunn to UM of is a no brainer.

    1) Fred Jackson is arguably the top RB coach in the nation
    2) Once DR departs, we shift 100% to a prostyle offense.
    3) The offense line recruits will be blowing open big holes.

OSU can not offer any of that.

  27. in my opinion Jordan Diamond as his last name suggests is a diamond and according to some price per head bookmaking sports experts, he will leave his current club and go to another one for a big amount of money
