Arnett to transfer

2011 ESPN 150 wide receiver DeAnthony Arnett is apparently transferring from Tennessee, due to the illness of his father and the firing of the Vols' WR coach, according to this article.

The illness of his father is a very tough thing for Arnett to go through, so its understandable why he probably wants to play college football in his home state. If he does transfer, he'll probably seek a waiver from the NCAA so that he doesn't have to sit out a year.

Michigan won't take another receiver from the 2012 class, the whole Monty Madaris thing is a dead end. But a player as talented as Arnett might just interest Brady Hoke if the Wolverines have one spot left in the class towards the end. This is definitely something to keep an eye on.

  2. Benji, because of the hardship waiver he will likely file with the ncaa, it's exciting that he can play right away. I read on the bighouse blog that his transfer wouldn't count against u of m's number for the 2012 recruiting class, but they would obviously have to abide by the 85 scholarship limit. any truth to that?

  3. He's from my home town and was a beast in a solid conference. Had a good freshman year too. Think he was a 4 star last year. I had hoped he would come to AA but always heard he was SEC bound. Maybe you didn't follow recruiting very closely last year Chucky but both he and Sammy Watkins were high on my list and both at least considered UM. I think they would both be starting next year had they gone blue. I hope his waiver request is accepted by the league and he sports the winged helmet next fall.

You are correct that it doesn't count against a recruiting post this year but against the roster limit.

    @C-Note
MSU was second last year because they run a pro-style offense. He also considered Mich. but decided against playing in a spread offense. Know that Mich. is switching to a pro I think they have a shot if they want him. Plus, his whole family are Mich. fans.

His whole family are Michigan fans? For some reason I thought he was a MSU fan that's why he had them second to Tennessee. If Michigan has a chance to get him I hope they do. He was rated very high and looked very good last year. You know if he is going back to Michigan its pretty clear its down to Michigan and Michigan State. I would take this kid in a second. He is better than Jordan Payton and has a year of experience. Plus if he doesn't have to sit out this would be huge. You can bet MSU is doing everything they can to get him. They lose their top 3 WR this year. If they pick him up this would be huge for MSU. Hope we can land this kid and everything works out for him and his family.

  8. TVH is reporting that there has been no contract with the Arnett's and MSU... I'll ride with that.

  9. As far as things go with Arnett if he goes blue that's great. The most important thing is the health of his father. I hope he gets better so he can watch his son play no matter where he goes to school.

  10. Chucky, you obviously didnt follow receruiting last year bc the kid was a concensus top 12 receiver across the board. He started as a true freshman at tennessee who has one of the top 3 receiving corps in the country. He is a speed guy who works well in the slot, with the loss of Martavious Odoms we are thin in the slot. Educate yourself before you say "dont want him".

  11. First of all oubob, spell check yourself before you go on a rant and call me out. I follow recruiting with closed eyes okay. Considered the top recruit out of Michigan by most during his high school year.

His brother was the one advising DA did not want to play in a spread system under RR. I am interested in players who want to play in AA now not what happened over 1.5 + years ago, chum.

Know, you can be mad bro.

  12. I dont think we are going to be thin in our receiving corps. Yes you loose Hemmingway and Odoms, but you retain Gallon, Roundtree, and Stonum. Couple that with the 2 new freshman in Darboh and Chesson, and the fact that Hayes maybe moving to the slot and there is some reason to be optimistic. That being said he could be an asset to the team, but only if he wanted to be here. I just dont see Hoke or the staff looking at the program as a "second" option... no matter what the circumstance. I think they want guys who WANT to be Michigan men, not guys who will play here because its geographically convenient. I could be wrong tho.

  13. Joe Schad just tweeted that he wants to be released to UM or MSU, but UT says it will release him to a MAC school.

  14. Tennessee's coach is an ass hole. I don't care if the kid did go to MSU over UofM to tell him he can only play at a MAC school because Michigan and Michigan State are teams Tennessee competes with is a joke. They are not in the same conference and are not scheduled to play Tennessee ever in the future.

  15. A very strong statement by Arnett. I think it speaks volumes!

    DeAnthony Arnett-
"Coach Dooley, myself or anybody doesn't know what the future holds for my Father and I feel that I represented the University of Tennessee the best way I can on and Off the field and I feel I have earned the right to be released unconditional to all schools in Michigan. Especially with The University of Tennessee not scheduling any program from the state of Michigan on their current or future schedules. Coach Dooley has singled two programs that I cant get a unconditional release to and that's the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. He told me I can attend any Mac school that I want and if I wanted to attend The University of Michigan and Michigan State University then I would have to pay for school instead of be on the scholarship. I dont know whats next my family cant afford to pay for school and my father health reason isn't good enough excuse for me to attend a BCS school close to home. (According to coach Dooley). Therefore as a student athlete i feel coach Dooley is trying to hinder my success by not allowing me to compete at a bcs level! And he's neglecting the fact that my father is severely ill."

  16. arnett is an upgrade over gallon and dileo in the slot, bottom line.

the statement from arnett means we would have a 50/50 shot at landing him.

i'd love to have him! anyone else?
