Zettel to Penn State

Wow that is disappointing to say the least.

Life long UM fan visits like 100 times and picks another school, this hurts big time. More so because it's Penn State, who aren't exactly 100% sure who their coach will be for the next four years.

I know we're all meant to say "ohh good luck anyway AZ!", but no. Not today. We really needed this one. I hope we smash PSU for the next four years.

  1. Penn St is on a down hill slide. I can't believe he decided to go there. There recruiting class is horrible so far and he can't honestly think they are going to be contenders in the next few years. I do have to say, I'm glad he chose Penn St over MSU. It would have hurt a little more if he chose MSU.

  2. WTF?! I'm shocked. Utterly shocked. We have been courting this kid for years...

  3. ive said it before, and I'll say it again. Our 3-3-5 base D does not appeal to elite lineman and linebackers.

  4. He said he had doubts over the Michigan situation; i.e coaching uncertainty. I don't think the 3-3-5 was a big factor in this.

  5. Remember, UM and the program are bigger than Mr. Zettel.

    All is good.

Stay patient & classy, things will work out.

  6. Hey Drew Sharp & Mike Rosenberg, even the messiah in East Lansing could not sway the small town hero, silver spoon kid, Mr. Anthony Zettel.

We will only hear how RR lost him.

  7. True Gando, Dantanio didn't land him. But then again Zettel wasn't a lifelong MSU fan to start with. This is a bad recruiting loss, however in the grand scheme of things, I doubt it will have much affect on UM at all.
Zettel is a good player, but not an instant difference maker.

  8. all michigan can hope for is some kind of help on the recruiting trail after the bowl game. They have a couple recruits who can help on the defensive side like Kris Frost, Lamar Dawson, Deion Barnes, Timmy Jernigan, Darion Cooper, Curtis Grant, Wayne Lyons. Then there are guys who may like michigan but are commited to other schools.

We will see what happens on the recruiting trail when D.Brandon makes his decision on the coach. Up until then we will continue to lose out on the best of recruits

  9. Frost most likely. Barnes' and Lyons a good shot. Darian Cooper maybe. Lamar Dawson, Jernigan, Curtis Grant No way no chance. But since Zettel was suppose to be a lock, who knows on Frost. DB just had to wait till after bowl game... Go Blue!

  10. Benji I know the coaching situation was what Zettel said but come on... We all know JoePa is on his last leg. With all due respect to Paterno, Id say theres a good chance that JoePa could die from natural causes before Jan 2nd when DB fires RR... So Im not buying coaching situation completely. I'll buy into it alittle. But name an elite defensive player that has been recruited by RR? OSU gets three stud linebackers a year and we cant get one in three years? The only bluechip DL we got is now a OG... Im not a hater, im a lover, and I just hate loving UM football so much sometimes...

  11. Curtis Grant has actually come out and said he likes Michigan, but im sure it's the same he is waiting to see what happens with the coaching situation. And Dawson is visiting on the 21st of January, so that could be a good sign for michigan...Who cares who we get. Go Blue!!!

  12. Regarding PSU coaching -- does Joe Pa matter? Even a little? His departure has been a certainty for many years now. Dave Brandon isn't the only one with a "plan". Everyone knows JoPa is already nothing more than a symbolic figurehead, a mascot, a high profile cheerleader. The PSU staff though, is very stable, compared to many programs, particularly UofM.

If Zettel chose PSU for coaching stability, he's totally justified.

  14. @usdriver: The state of Ohio has a lot of talent, and OSU gets all of it. We have to compete with MSU, and when they have 11-1 seasons, its always going to be hard. Have faith though, I guarantee if RR stays on, there will be a big name splash on signing day.

@Logan: Curtis Grant and Lamar Dawson are both longshots right now, and the competition is fierce to say the least. But if RR stays, he's proven he only needs one official visit to secure an elite player. ala Dorsey.

@ Paternal: Whilst everyone knows JoePa won't be the coach that long, he's still the face of the program right now, and I bet he still makes a lot of the decisions. When he goes, unless they hire from within, there will be a major coaching and culture change at Penn State, so I hope AZ is ready for that.

@David: Yeah I heard HCD mention that, maybe he's just joking around. I don't think Dee will end up in Alabama because they didn't want him at RB, he's not big enough for their power running. I'd be more worried about Florida and FSU.

  15. A totally unprepared football team was on the field today. A predictable game plan on both offense & defense. No adjustments on offense or defense today. The worst bowl loss in UM history. RRod should be fired before he gets on the airplane.
I'm sickened by what I saw today.
