Caleb Stacey decommits

Offensive lineman Caleb Stacey has decommitted from Michigan today, and will now sign with the Cincinnati Bearcats. He's from the Cincinnati area, so this is probably just a decision to keep him closer to home, but one must ask the question whether Michigan's likely expansion on OL recruiting had something to do with it.

Anyway, if you're one of those optimists who thinks we can get both Garnett and Diamond, well good news: we now have room for them. Alex Kozan is also still an option, he's deciding soon, but no one is certain of his decision.

  1. This worries me. UM is not a lock for Garnett, Diamond or Kozan. This could really hurt in the long run.

  2. This worries me too. We've been unable, it seems, to close on anyone of late, we've now lost a commit, and OSU seems to be flying right past us in recruiting.

    1. UM was nearly full before the season started, with four and five star players waiting as long as they can.

Ohio had 8 scholarships or more to give away, and they just hired a National Championship winning coach -- even if he is slimy. Plus, O H N O has had great classes for a long time.

The competition is necessary for the Big Ten to overcome the Pay for Play Conference farther south. We want to have OSU and Michigan battle it out as top 5 teams. That's what college football wants and needs.

  3. Look at the bright side, the recruits that have de-committed are not any of our top guys. Maybe this makes us more appealing to our remaining O-line targets. Stacey isn't going to a rival school, at least. However, we definitely need another interior lineman in this class now.

  4. I'm not that worried by this news. While I would have loved for Stacey to play for Michigan next year he was one of the lower ranked commits in this class. This still leaves us with at least 4 very good Oline commits, five if we can land one of the last three. This also just means Michigan may bank another scholarship and go after a few more Olineman hard next year.

I wish Stacey the best at Cincinnati and we will still have one of the ten best classes in the country, I'm good with that.

  5. I thought the win over OSU would get a commit or 2 but no. Then I thought after the Sugar Bowl win that would be commit but no again. So I am not sure whats going on but I do know the coaching staff will do what ever they can to help UM. I have faith in the coaches to find the right commits and that its not all about stars its about the right young men to play at Michigan.

  6. Man we locked up 23 commits before the OSU game. That is almost a full class. I am not bummed at all about losing Stacey. He probably would have never saw the field. We are gonna get either or all of Garnett, diamond and kozan

  7. On top of being in on some big guys in 2013. Forget OSU. They haven't taken any of our guys. We're good.

  8. I don't think that you guys should be THAT worried.

This helps us with diamond because he was worried about early playing time and the amount of OL men.

this doesn't really affect Garnett, so no worries there.

The only thing that worries me is that Stacy was predicted by most to be a center, which is what Michigan needs the most help at on the OL.

    1. I know it would not affect Garnett and if Diamond could not beat out Stacey then we don't want him anyway. My point was UM is slim at O line and UM may not even get one of the remaining recruits. If Garnett, Diamond and Kozan go else where UM will be very very slim at O line. Thats my point. And for the record I am not worried OSU will take any UM commits.

    2. @Simply
I totally agree with you that people should be concerned about Stacy because he was the only center in this class. Jer, Diamond and Stacy play different positions so they wouldn't be competing against each other for playing time.

    3. Even though I am sorry that he is leaving, and hope he has a good life, I am not worried. Lets not forget that the coaches had braden practice at center and he played it pretty much the whole year, plus jack miller is rumored to be cross trained at the position. So lets not worry to much, we will get through this. go blue

    4. Braden has played tackle, you are thinking of Stacey I believe. His coaches had him play center this year. Miller is a center so not sure what you mean by cross trained. There are currently 2 centers on Michigan's roster right now, Stacey would've added depth at a position of need.

  9. I know this is off topic but this is important. CBS is reporting. BREAKING: PennSt coach Joe Paterno near death, family summoning close friends to hospital for final goodbyes

  10. Ondre pipkins recently tweeted that we had another commit... His clue was " u can call me Kay jewelers" ... Leads me to believe it is Jordan diamond. Do not fear my friends we will be alright. Article is up of mgoblog.com in case u were wondering of where I seen news on the tweet. Best of luck to Caleb at Cincinnati

  11. We have seen the tweet. We just don't know if we can believe it.

  12. There's not much recruiting news to talk about so I'll roll out an unlikely theory of mine. Maybe there really is a secret commit, like Pipkins hinted at. Stacey found out this was true and decided to de-commit because he was already concerned about being able to get playing time at Michigan. This would make some sense, maybe.

  13. Oh, I was typing that before ER's comment was posted.

  14. ESPN had a live chat with TomVH and others a day or two ago, and they said they believe Garnett is Blue, and that Diamond was very likely, too.

  16. I know the OL needs rebuilding, but, don't be surprised if one of these current OL recruits is a red shirt to be saved for future years to establish more OL consistency. That is, not having to recruit a new line every four years. If Garnett and/or Diamond are both signed, then I would expect a red shirt from someone. JMO.

  17. Garnett sure has been vocal on how much he dislikes the press the d-len commits to Ohio has been getting. Its hard to see him say those things and be such good friends with magnuson and not go blue.

  18. Its about to get real interesting fellas. I wish Caleb great success at Cincinnati, but you had to see this coming especially with them going after both Diamond and Garnett so hard as well as Kozan. Now I wonder... I have a feeling they have something brewing in A2.. something big. GO BLUE

  19. I think Hoke is doing an in-home visit with Reeves tonight. I saw something but it was behind a paywall, as usual. Does he have a set date to announce?

  22. Grant decommits from BC. Has to be promising.

  23. If we nab Garnett and Diamond we potentially would have one the top o-line classes in NCAA history, and possibly 4 future first round NFL picks. Amazing. Spence and Washington are amazing but you all know what happens when Ferrari's hit brick walls.

  25. is there something that we dont know, and thats why he decommited?

  26. another player that decommits?? I thin that the market is so unstable, and many players are moving from one team to another and this is what an article at Hostpph predicted before this happened
