Yuri Wright Update

Three recent events that are directly or indirectly involved with the recruitment of Yuri Wright:

1) Big rumor circulates about Wright potentially announcing at the recent Army game. If he did announce during the game, it would have been for Notre Dame, there's little doubt about that. Even though he did not announce, the fact that the rumor was circulated in the first place says that his interest in Notre Dame is probably quite high.

2) E.J Shumate announces for Notre Dame. Shumate is a safety prospect, and the current teammate of Yuri at Don Bosco Prep. It might not have a huge effect on Wright, but it's certainly not going to hurt ND's chances.

3) CB Ronald Darby decommits from Notre Dame. With Darby in the class, the Irish had the #1 and #4 CBs in the class, and despite Wright's own lofty status, that's something that has no doubt crossed his mind if he was eying early playing time. With Darby now out the way, it makes ND look more attractive to Wright.

So yeah, Wright to ND looks in the cards, especially since Michigan is apparently going after Armani Reeves with more effort.

Right now it looks like UM wants 1 OL, 1 CB, 1 TE, and then the last spot will depend on the fate of Darryl Stonum.

  1. Benji makes great points. With Darby out at ND i see Wright in at ND espec with his teammate going to ND.

There is a big reason UM has reopened recruiting to Reeves and Crawley. We need a CB badly. The last 2 games really exposed our secondary.

TE Sam Grant said he had an awesome time at Oklahoma this past weekend but they signed Taylor Mcnamara. It all depends on what Grant wants. Does he want a high flying passing offense or does he want to do grunt work and run the Borges pro style offense. With his 6'6" 235 frame, i see him choosing Oklahoma unless Kyle Kalis puts in major work.

  2. Where is Ronald Darby looking at now? Is it Clemson?

  3. Just lik I previously stated regarding Wright.

  4. I just don't understand why the coaches cooled on Yuri Wright? He grew up a Michigan fan. He has said a bunch of times Michigan is his dream school. If Michigan went after him hard I think they would of won the battle over ND but they cooled off giving ND the chance to get a very good DB. Now its important that they land Reeves. Whats the expression called again.... putting all your eggs in one basket.

  5. Well if the coaches cooled off on Yuri, they obviously have their reasons. I mean, he didn't look all that great in the game anyways, I'm sure they know more than we do.

  6. Wright is a very raw cb and rumors have it that he might be a better safety prospect. Michigan already has the safety position filled for this class and that might be why the coaches are putting more interest in Reeves. Don't get me wrong would love to have both but I trust the coaches.

  7. Sorry guys, but if Michigan is truly somebody's "dream school," a commitment shouldn't take this long. People who have "dreamed" of going to Michigan have already been checking out academics and programs in years past. Unofficial visits would already have been taken. Wright is probably not coming.

  8. I don't want people who "dream" of coming to Michigan anyway. I want people who are excited enough to commit, and stop wasting the staff's time. Let OSU have the TP's of the world, who need Signing Day press conferences and such.

    ReplyDelete
  9. @Freshone on the other hand, I'm guessing Josh Garnett will have a press conference later this month. And every maize and blue fan will be tuned in. I want us to have the best O-line class in history.

  10. @Sin City Blue:

Darby is looking at LSU, Florida, Clemson, FSU and Maryland with USC being a possibility.

  11. Remember when Wayne Morgan was in love with Michigan but then the Coaches all but stopped recruiting him? This stuff happens for a reason and Hoke and staff have their reasons if they've cooled on Yuri. Yuri didn't look good in the Army game, maybe they've looked at video of Yuri and Armani and liked Armani better? It could be that simple. These coaches aren't stupid, and Mattison is maybe the best recruiter in football and a fantastic defensive coordinator, so if Michigan isn't landing Yuri, then have faith in the staff that THEY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING. I trust them, signing day is almost here and we'll have ALL our answers, GO BLUE!!!

  12. @balla, word on the blogs is that not only did wright not look good in the game, but his practices were not that impressive either. And it has already been stated he is looking more like a safety prospect after watching his senior film. If you go to mgoblog you can see were there was a live blog during the game and no one who watched the game could believe he was that highly rated. So you put a person who's senior film was not that impressive, came to an all star game were he could prove himself at practices and didn't. Then went out and had a horrible game. Now add in the fact that he is really raw and the GOOD possibility that he's growing into a safety, a position not of need at the moment. It is what it is, they cooled on him because if you cant get up for an all star game where you are going to be facing the best, then am I going to have to baby sit you and teach you maturity for TWO years until you get playing time because he is so raw, or I finally find your position to even play you in. The reports about the practices spoke volumes. We need CB depth NOW. If he is ready talent or maturity wise then as a coach I might need to find out my options. Then go from there. I trust the coaches, look at how many of us were down on the coaches about turning down schuut, and from what I hear, his stock slipped quite a bit after the game he played. To sum it up, I trust the coaches and those who COME and stay will be champions.

  13. "not ready" talent wise. MY bad

  14. I just can't think of anybody we HAVE to get. I'd love to get Garnett, just because it'll help insure we have a top 3-5 class. I have faith in Clark, Wilson, countess, and TR, so I'm not over concerned about wright or reeves. TE, due to the pro-style, is my only concern. We don't have alot of depth or experiance there. So... my point is we already have a top6 class anything else is icing on the cake.

  15. @breebadger

Thanks for the update. I also have trust in the coaches. What does everyone think about Stonum?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Matt Hansen from 5th. quarter said on twitter that Wright and Reeves are both visiting this weekend. Not sure whats going on with Wright what I trust the coaches and Reeves may take a short visit to Osu this weekend as well. I thought OSU was full at CB?

2013 RB Ty Isaac has a visit to Michigan planned this weekend?

And Madaris has canceled his visit. I guess UM will not be taking another WR in this class.

As long as UM can land Garnett (and Erik Magnuson said on twitter he is recruiting him hard) UM will have a great class no matter what the rankings.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm not sure they'll give stonum another chance. However I don't think driving on suspended is that big of a deal. I'd love to see him back, but I get the feeling their going to try and make an example of him. If it was me and I didn't get rid of him after 2 dui's, I wouldn't send him packing for driving with no license. That's just me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. He is turning into Mike Floyd from ND. Thats not what UM needs.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah...and that's why their gonna make an example of him. Although

    ReplyDelete
  20. Whoops...although we could use someone of MF's talent

    ReplyDelete
  21. People talk about how good Floyd is and he is good not great. But in crunch time he came up short.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I hope he stays. If Stonum was at Bama,LSU,ND or MSU do you think he would be kicked off the team? Hell No.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 1) Stonum - Not sure of the facts but was he "only driving without a licence" or was he Vioalting a probation (court order) by driving on a revoked licence. The difference is huge.
If we're considering second and third chances and yes I know it's apples and oranges, Demar Dorsey no longer has a place to play football......GRCC is nixing their football. Can we offer him a Grey Shirt??

    2) The coaches "cooled" on whoever. I've seen this term going back early in the recruiting process with Morgan et al. I have yet to ever see something from the coaches or any reliable source saying the coaches have cooled on anybody. Let's face it. Not all of these kids want to go to Michigan for any number of reasons (fandom, parental legacy, specific academics, geography). When we go around saying the coaches cooled, he's not as good as previously reported, we don't need them, etc. we start sounding like slappies from other B1G schools. If Wright called Hoke right now and said "I'm in".......it's hard to believe we'd say no because we might get some other 17 year old who can't make up his mind.

Let's not sound like slappies. I would hope that some of these kids, their parents and their mentors read some of these boards to see what their fans are all about.

I too trust the coaches, albeit not blindly. I'm sure they'll miss the boat on one or two good gets. We'll have a great class but others are closing in by wrapping up great gets recently (tOSU for one).

NSD is around the corner, then and only then will we know how the coaches did recruiting this year.

    Go Blue!!!!!

  24. @JER
Floyd is a very good Wr, probably the number 2 wr in this years draft. I wouldn't compare Stonum and Floyd because Stonum has had 2 DUIs and Floyd only one.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @ Balla, prolly not but Hoke has preached character and lets be honest, he was lucky he only got suspended for a year. To compare Michigan to a SEC team is moot when you consider their recruiting practices alone.
Madaris is looking at UC, MSU and Kentucky. If he goes to MSU that would give them Burbridge, Arnett and this kid? Thats a fairly impressive WR haul.

on another note, who do you have for the Championship game tonight? LSU or Bama?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Blue in GB,
Floyd had 3 DUIs not one. Floyd is a good WR but in the 4th. quarter and in crunch time he disappears.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I got LSU 9 Bama 6....I don't know why, but I just have a hunch...

    ReplyDelete
  28. If it's 9-6 it'll be the worst NC game ever!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yea, that's why I'm not watching.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think there will be more scoring in the national championship then their original meeting. Probably something like 20-17 Bama. I think Richardson will find a little more running room this time and open up the pass game.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh and to comment on the Stonum subject, I think he deserves one last shot. He definitely didn't deserve the jail time in this instance. This was by far the least of his infractions so far, and the judge was pretty harsh on the kid. We won't know all the facts of this story but I'm pretty sure it didn't involve alcohol at all this time. I read a really good article about this situation, and I have have to say let him play.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Jer89:

You really need to check your facts. Floyd only had 1 DUI. He had 2 other alcohol related offenses (both were getting caught with a drink in his hand at a college party in Minnesota), so to say he has 3 DUIs couldnt be further from the truth.

Also, he is a great WR, not just good. Junior Hemmingway is a good WR, Floyd is great. Guy had 270 rec, 3700yds and 37 TDs in his career. In comparison, Braylon Edwards had 250 rec, 3540yds and 39 TDs. ND has also had terrible QB play the last 2 years.

    ReplyDelete
  33. No its 3 DUI and how many of the rec, yards and TD came in the 4 th quarter and in big games like UM, stanford, USC hell even Navy? Besides if all WRs played weak schedules like ND I would have 37 TDs. He is good thats all. He will be out of the NFL or 4th. string in 3 years max.

    ReplyDelete
  34. @JER
Like to know where you get your facts about Floyd? Using your reasoning I take it MEGATRON isn't a great receiver either, he disappeared in some games this year. I'm guessing you couldn't score 37 tds in high school let alone college.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Do you know that DUI stands for driving under the influence? Please provide a source that says Floyd has 3 DUIs.

    Sagrian SOS rankings:
    2011: ND 20th. Mich: 39th
    2010: ND 22nd Mich: 23rd
    2009: ND 39th. Mich: 73rd
    2008: ND 50th Mich: 44th

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hoke had better cut Daryl Stonum or at least ban him from playing another down. I would like to see him turn his life around, but football is a luxury and a privalege not a right. I think he has played his last game at Michigan, too bad too because we could have used him.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Reeves sucks. Short corners will get burned. Get a Charles woodson size corner or turn a WR into one.

    ReplyDelete
  38. We can't get WR to play WR, how are we going to turn one into a DB?

    ReplyDelete
  39. You really make it seem so easy along with your presentation but I find this matter to be really one thing that I feel I might by no means understand. It sort of feels too complicated and very large for me. I'm looking forward to your subsequent post, I'll try to get the hold of it!
