Josh Garnett Update

Four star OL Josh Garnett will announce his college decision on January 26th, with Michigan and Stanford as the main two choices, and Notre Dame kind of just making up the top three.

He hasn't made the decision yet, which means it could really hinge on the in home visits that should take place probably this week, or maybe early next week. Brady Hoke himself will be flying out there to give his best recruiting pitch!

It's really tough to call right now, as there are several key factors pulling him both ways. It's going to be one of those decisions that really no one knows until its done, which to be honest makes it very exciting.

  1. UM really needs Garnett in this class.

  2. That should be cool to see. Good kid. In other news...Cal's best recruiter has taken a job at Washington. This guy has been recruiting Jordan Payton since he was a Sophomore. What does this mean for Michigan? Well he just tweeted that Michigan will be visiting his home on Thursday. I guess he has decided to take a step back and reevaluate his decision. Benji, Do you know anything more about this news. Also, a few other big recruits have decided to take a step back as well.

  3. Oh, and I have been following this website for a little over a year now and this is my first post. Great site. I am on it about 2 or 3 times a day to see if there are any new update. I absolutely love Michigan football. I love following the recruiting trail. Thanks for all the hard work you put in Benji.

Hope he has success in all but one game a year but can't help but question his decision making process. I do however think that if early playing time is what he wants, this is a good decision.

  6. I am starting to rethink UM final 4.
Two O linemen either Garnett, Kazon or Diamond. First two wins.
One WR Payton or someone we have not been talking about.
And the forth will be a signing day surprise.

This means the ship has sailed on Wright, Reeves and Grant.

  7. I'm feeling pretty optimistic about Payton right now. I think we have a good shot at him. No elite receivers on campus. Plus no elite receivers in this class. A guy like him seems like he would want to be "that guy" for a team. I think he could definitely end up at Michigan. I am still staying positive about Reeves. I don't think were totally out. I do feel less confident about it than I did a couple weeks ago. Right now I feel like we will end up with Garnett, Payton, and 2 surprises. I don't think Hoke will bank those scholarships. We need players and playmakers badly. I think we use them all. I would like to see another O Lineman and maybe another DB. Would be real nice if Shaq Thompson came with Payton if he signs on NSD. But that would be my dream list I guess.

  8. We have now lost Stonum...........it's official.....so our need in this position just took a hit. Sometimes doing the right things hurts but it remains the right thing.

    For IMMEDIATE Release

Wide Receiver Darryl Stonum Dismissed from U-M Football Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke announced on Tuesday (Jan. 17) that wide receiver Darryl Stonum has been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules.

"I love Darryl and wish him nothing but the absolute best," Hoke said. "However, there is a responsibility and a higher standard you must be accountable to as a University of Michigan football student-athlete. That does not and will not change. It's unfortunate because I believe he has grown a great deal as a person since the beginning of the season. My hope is that maturing process continues."

Stonum started 25 of 36 career games at U-M, catching 76 passes for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns. He also returned 62 kickoffs for 1,538 yards and holds the single-season kickoff return mark with 39 returns for 1,001 yards in 2009. Stonum redshirted in 2011.

"I appreciate everything the University of Michigan, Dave Brandon and Coach Hoke have done for me," said Stonum. "I look forward to continuing my football career down the road, but more importantly, right now I'm focused on graduating from Michigan this Spring. I understand only I am responsible for my actions. I'm sad about how all of this turned out, but I completely understand. I love this school and my team and will miss them all greatly. But I'll always be a Wolverine. I know I have grown and matured as a person over the last nine months, and I will continue to learn and grow every day. I want to thank everyone for all of their support, and I hope they will support me in the future."]
