Reeves to OSU

Four star CB Armani Reeves just announced on twitter he's going to OSU. This is a real shame, as it marks a win for Urban Meyer over UM in recruiting, and we don't really have any other corners on the board right now. Will they make a last ditch attempt to sign one out of nowhere?

  1. This is a shame. But I look forward to UM WRs schooling him in the future.

  2. Football wise with him choosing TSiO just makes no sense... Really just a poor choice by him....

  3. Lol, he tweeted a few days ago "look at academics first". I guess he didn't take his own advice

  4. Wow Urban Meyer is flat out getting any player he wants. Now we only have one DB in the class. This class went from a great class to average class for Michigan standards. We started very strong but are ending poor. OSU will have a better class than us this year. If we can't beat them out in a year Urban Meyer was only recruiting for a couple months how can we beat them out when he is recruiting the whole time?

    1. He's over-signing if he gets the current 24 commits to commit. They only have 23 scholarships currently available for next year. But Urban's going by SEC math, and he's counting for more attrition than they already have had in the past month since he started.

    2. He got schutt, Spence and reeves cause of Penn state problems. The guy from ND cause he hired their line coach. That's four of his top recruits that he wouldn't have had in a normal year. Who has he got on his own? Don't say pitman cause we all know he wasn't staying with sparty

    3. Early enrollees do not count toward the 28 allowed in a recruiting class. They count toward the previous years class. Ohio State had 6 early enrollees, so they could technically sign 34 and still be in line with the Big Ten and NCAA regulations. Quit complaining about things you do not know about.

  5. he was recruiting the whole time team 132 was preparing for the sugar bowl. no other top coaches were able to do what he did. mich has a top 10 ten class and hoke and co will prepare them to be great men!

    ReplyDelete
  6. I wonder if Hoke and His staff will try to talk to and or offer Tracy Howard or Davonte' Neal who is listed as a WR but can play CB and would be a steal at this point.... Davonte' Neal is high on OSU but now that they have Reeves it don't look like he's in the cards...

  7. Urban Meyer: bringing over-signing techniques to the Big 10 (http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2012/01/maxed_out_with_scholarships_oh.html)

This makes me disgusted more than losing Reeves and others to them. I read a few more articles, in which -uck Nuts are justifying his over-signing as "we know we're going to have attrition and the official scholarship numbers don't need to be at 82 until fall camp starts."

If only we could have signed a few more players last year with us knowing that we'd have a few players leave the program after spring ball and summer school.

  8. There is still plenty of time but seeing good players commit to that school south of us really is pissing me off.

  9. Man if Kozan goes to Iowa Then this really ain't looking good to close out strong but with that said I have faith in this coaching staff and hopefully they can still end this with fireworks........

  10. Why doesn't everyone just stop panicking? OSU has a top 10 recruiting class every year, if not higher. This year, we beat them using a hodge-podge of tiny, lower-rated Rich Rod players and under-the-radar overachievers. OSU had nothing but 4 and 5 star players on the field. Guys like Jake Ryan, Desmond Morgan, Frank Clark, etc were not very highly touted, but would you question their efforts on the field or the potential they've shown in just their first year? Our defense improved 100 spots in ONE season with many of the same players. What does that say? It says we have coaches who know how to develop the talent they have. Ask Urban if he would trade all of the 4 and 5 stars he picked up for Greg Mattison and he would say yes. In fact, ask yourself the same question. Give me Greg Mattison any day because he will make a man out of you, no matter how many stars you walk in with. Reeves would've been a nice pick-up, but we have T-Rich and Jarrod Wilson as 2 highly touted DB's. Let's see what else the staff has planned.

    1. I agree but I would love for this staff to at least see if Davonte' Neal is interested in playing for Michigan now that OSU has Reeves Davonte' Neal makes no sense for them cuz they were recruiting him as a CB...

      Delete
    2. They are actually recruiting him as a "Percy Harvin" type of player, not a CB. If anything, he'll be a WR.

      Delete
  11. Remember a guy named Cullen Christian? That kid was a 4 star. We were thrilled to pick him up. Where is he now? He's gone. He couldn't cut it. He didn't live up to his rating. Not even close. We have a 5-star defensive lineman who admits his work ethic could use some improvement. It's not about the stars. It's about a kid's character, effort, and desire to reach his full potential.

If Urban oversigns, he oversigns. We'll let the Big Ten handle that. All we can do is settle things on the field. I might get crap for this, but look at MSU and Wisconsin. They always have crappy recruiting classes, but look at what they've done the last several years. Take the players you get and develop the hell out of them. That's all you can do. Let OSU rejoice in their recruiting class. We beat them this year. That's all that matters. Celebrate until next November.

    1. I agree with some highly rated guys not panning out from time to time, but when you bring in loads of talented players, you will get results. I hate Ohio and Urban Meyer and everything they stand for, but unfortunately the talented players that could help Michigan clearly don't see it that way. I like that this rivalry is already heated, but Urban is having crazy success recruiting right now...

      Delete
    2. Over-signing does not mean going over 25 +3 carry over, which means the Big 10 won't do squat. Over-signing here means that as of NSD Meyer is set to sign more players (24) than he currently has spots for (23). He's going to have to do what those SEC teams do, and force kids to transfer or get medical hardship waivers because he'll tell them they won't be playing. Or, he'll actually have to greyshirt some players or force one of the current (Fickell) commits to go elsewhere.

It will look clean in the numbers, but it's unethical. The league won't do anything about this ethical issue.

I'm not worried about who he has signed (Reeves). I'm not concerned about what rated players sign for OSU any year. I only care that he's brining SEC ethics up to the North. Even if frowned upon, the draw of OSU will keep Delaney and company publicly silent.

It's ethics, and not future victories, that concerns me. One of my good friends is an OSU fool, and he hates the over-signing thing. However, I can't wait to hear him say that Urban's not over-signing.

  12. Very simple, Reeves went to ohio because of Camren Williams & his father - not because of anything else. Period. We move on. Will be glad if we get Grant, Henry - adding depth & Diamond next Friday.

  13. We still need Kozan cuz we have nothing doing at Center but we might not get him......

    ReplyDelete

    1. Jack Miller will be a RS freshman that can fill the void till we land a good center prospect next year. Khoury or Barnum will play center in 2012 and probably Miller as a RS Soph. We will land someone next year. We will be fine.

  14. We are not getting Kozan. We know that.

    ReplyDelete
  15. We still wont know 100% til he says so.. Just cuz so called experts say he's going to Iowa means NOTHING.. You know he did have a vist with Hoke last night and maybe just maybe he may change his mind but everyone thinks it's Iowa and like I said let's just let him pick his school.....

    1. Michigan is getting completely destroyed by Urban in recruiting. I don't think we get Kozan or Diamond and will end up banking all but 1 of the available Scholarships left this year. It is a load of crap that Meyer was able to recruit while Fickle coached the bowl game but no excuses Urban is embarrassing Hoke and company right now.

  18. Explain to me how is Liar destroying Hoke & Co. in recruiting ?

Facts: - Dunn never decomitted & his heart was always set in C'Bus.

Reeves caved into pressure for wanting to play with Camren Williams Camren's dad. aka Reeves godfather. If it was a 1 on 1 and no Camren Williams in the pic, then you can rant over 1 recruit.

    That is totally different.

So please outline in details what your point is ?

  27. I've never seen a group of grown men act more like little bitches in my entire life. My kids don't whine as much as some of you guys do. My gosh. Get over it. Championships aren't wan in February...they are won in November. I get on here because it is cool to see what kids are coming in. Also, it is nice to watch a kid come from high school and see him grow into a man and a great football player. Look at what our coaches did with what most experts consider average at best level talent across the board. We will be fine. It isn't about stars...getting big names...using all of your scholarships...or about winning a battle with TSIO for one kid. We suck we are getting embarrassed. Shut up you sound like an idiot. Were Michigan, and we will be fine. I have faith in the character of the men that this coaching staff will bring in with every recruiting class. These guys know what they are doing. It will translate on the field. Nothing is ever good enough for you guys. We will get back to winning championships soon. I truly believe that. Regardless of what happens on NSD or any future NSD's.

    Have a little faith
    Show some love
Bo would be embarrassed to see some of your comments
Those who stay WILL be champions!

  30. Ohio is only ranked higher b/c they have what 3 5-star DE's? Whatever...their class isn't that well-rounded. Either way, I don't care too much about Reeves b/c he was a PSU commit and we just randomly had a strong shot at landing him. A few of the guys before me said it best, look what Hoke & Co. did with Rich Rod's players, and now try to imagine what's going to happen with this stellar class we're bringing in. Not to mention, we already have Shane Morris and Dymonte Thomas committed for 2013.

    1. You don't recruit a class to be "well-rounded." You recruit what positions you need. If you already have 4 QB's, you wouldn't recruit another one in the 2012 class to have a "well rounded" recruiting class. Your logic makes zero sense.

      Delete
    2. Also, Thomas committed before Meyer was announced as the OSU coach. As an Ohio recruit, I would not could on him at all considering Meyer's recruiting skills. If he wants Thomas, he'll more than likely get him.

  32. Yes I am mad. I am a HUGE Michigan fan. Have been since I was in the freakin womb. I can remember beating Notre Dame on a last Second FG one year when I was a kid and me and my dad went crazy over it. I can remember my dad screaming "Beat those damn Catholics." I remember the 97 season sitting at my dads work on his computer every Sunday, waiting for the rankings to come out to see where we were at. I remember how pissed I was when Nebraska didn't drop a spot in the polls when they almost lost to Missouri with that BS catch with the incidental kick. Or how they freakin gave Osborne a retirement gift that year when they made us share the NC with them. I was young, but I was as hardcore as it gets. I still am today. I don't know all the history. I am 27 years old and I am still learning. I am just a huge freakin fan. I am sooo tired of whinny Michigan fans on here, on other boards, and ones who call in on talk radio shows like 97.1 The Ticket that make our fane base look and sound like a bunch of little girls. Make us look arrogant, ignorant, or just plain stupid. It is embarrassing. So to answer your question yes I am pissed.

    1. Great Points Maize.... I know we are not happy about how recruiting is going at the moment. But we are need to understand how this all goes... When is the last time we have won 11 games? Been a minute....Why are we expecting to be national Champs in less than a year? we were 7-5 the year before.. Hell this is a building process.. Trust me we will get the recruits....We are going after a certain type of recruit. that's it!So if the recruits wanna fall in love with the hype they call Meyer, then so be it. Stop acting like F...eye fans and remember what kind of school we are... We are back and will be relevant for years to come... We need to allow the process to gel and calm down.

  33. In fairness to Urban Meyer, I don't believe Florida really over-signed players like Auburn or Alabama. He is just a tenacious recruiter.

At the same time, I am not too worried about the classes. Michigan will be signing an excellent class, and Michigan has never really relied on better recruiting classes in the past to beat OSU on the field. See John Cooper. Some of differences in ratings is pretty ridiculous. Is there really a difference between a recruit rated 6.0 versus 5.8?

Regardless, I am happy with the class Michigan will get. Everyone wants to see more stars, but in the end, it really just matters what we see on the field. Go Blue!

  37. After we kick even more ass next year, added to the fact that Shane Morris & Dymonte Thomas already committed, we're easily going to pull in a top 1-3 class next year. You gotta remember a lot of these high school kids' memories of Michigan Football include the Rich Rod era + Appalachian State (please forgive me for cursing). Michigan is undoubtedly back, but it's hard for recruits to say no to programs that have been powerhouses (regardless of if they were cheating or not) for these last 4-5 years. After next year, I wouldn't be surprised to see Michigan in a position where we have to say no to some recruits we'd probably love to see now.

  39. I like that people are showing emotions on here nothing wrong with that. I don't think going out and saying we hope a player that went to OSU tears his ACL is ok. We have a little more class than OSU fans but nothing wrong with saying F*ck OSU,F*ck Urban Meyer and F*ck Reeves. I don't have to say congrats or good luck because he is now the enemy. I don't like OSU and I don't respect OSU.

  40. Doesn't matter who Meyer recruits, his offense is still boring as F*ck!!! Bring it on Fuckeyes!!! GO BLUE!!! I'll enjoy this when we kick the shit out of them in the next five years and their fans wank about how they have great classes but aren't beating Michigan and they turn on Meyer who suddenly has "heart" problems again. ONE MORE THING, FOOTBALL IS WON AND LOST IN THE TRENCHES, AND MICHIGAN OUT RECRUITED OHIO IN THOSE SPOTS OVERALL, PERIOD!!! DOUBT ME, WATCH THE 95 Fiesta bowl where Florida had all this speed and talent and Nebraska's two great lines annihilated them. The Giants upsetting the Patriots because their D-Line was awesome! Reeves can go to Ohio, I don't care, we still have some talented guys and a great group of character, MICHIGAN guys ready to join our team. We have D-Linemen and great linebackers signed up, I'll take that any day over a CB. I'm not scared of Ohio nor am I sad Reeves went there, he tweeted about how grades matter and his friend going to Ohio had no influence and yada yada, whatever, he can go to Ohio, I don't want him anyway. We still STOLE their top recruit in Kalis, and as he said "There will be blood on the field, but not mine!" BRING IT!!!! "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions!"

    1. Actually, Noah Spence is their top recruit, #4 overall according to ESPN. Kalis is 132nd on ESPN. I know the math is tough, but Kalis is definitely not the top recruit. In fact, Washington #65, Pittman #98, O'Connor #104, and Schutt #108 are all higher rated than Kalis. That's 5 recruits rated higher than Kalis. Not to mention OSU will probably sign one or a combination of Neal, Diggs, or Caleb, who are all ranked higher than Kalis.

  41. So, Urban Meyer recruited better than Brady hoke. congratulations. Urban is a historic recruiter.

    1. I agree man I've said that since the Urban to OSU shit started.....

  42. On one hand, I agree that we need to let the coaches "coach" these kids and let them sort it out on the field. But didn't one of these coaches say, "To make chicken salad, first you need the chicken." The fact is that Meyer is eating our lunch.

The 2012 classes are fairly even right now. That said, if OSU lands Diggs or some other "special" athlete, that would be a difference-maker. No one's even talking about 2013 QB Jalin Marshall, who OSU is likely to ink tomorrow.

Bottom line, UM needs to find bonifide playmakers in 2013. I'm thinking Ty Isaac and Laquon Treadwell. You get those guys to go along with our OL horses and Shane Morris, and we match up just fine with the Suckeyes.

  43. OSU is a fantastic football school and has been for years! But, so is Michigan and that is what makes this rivalry the best in all of sports.

@pdpepper we can all point out how one site favors our particular situation so don't go there. Your own Bucknuts.com had Kalis as the top prospect in your state as do many other sites. I personally never look at ESPN rankings because they are so biased towards the guys that commit to the Under Armour game. As a Michigan fan even I see how ESPN has Terry Richardson rated higher than any other of the big three sites (Rivals, Scout, 247).

@ chris Yes, Urban did inherit a recruiting class the was in the mid-teens. Why was that? Because no big time player was going to commit to a lame-duck coach in Luke Fickell. Everyone knew he wasn't coming back and as soon as any coach (OSU would have gotten a good one, because even though I hate them, they are a prestigous program) was hired the top players would start considering them again. Michigan and OSU are neck and neck in recruiting. The Urban hype will quickly die down as OSU goes through some growing pains on the field.

@EVERYONE Michigan will be and is in great shape! We will be ok. 11-2, Sugar Bowl win, and a GREAT recruiting class. Michigan is rebuilding for the long haul and year one has been AMAZING!

    ReplyDelete
  44. There's an article on espn.com called "5 Star Fiction." Basically they've tracked all the top recruits for the last 8 years and determined there's no correlation between a star ranking and their ultimate success. "Rankings are purely subjective. Coaching is where the pudding is at." Insider article though, but that was ultimately it's point. Just want to say one more thing, don't let the bad weekend ruin the fact that we still have an amazing class, its not diminished because we didn't add to it, yet. GO BLUE!!!
