247 Sports final rankings

247 Sports have released their final rankings for the class of 2012, you can see their top 247 prospects here. UM has 10 prospects in the top 247, 5 of which landed in the top 100. It's not quite as positive as scout's rankings, but its still pretty nice.

I don't have time to do a full recap of the list, but Ondre Pipkins was our top prospect at #51, and the most surprising ranking was RJS at around #210. Bit harsh there maybe.

  8. I've got to stop following recruiting until around signing day; there are too many rumors going around now. First, there was that supposed mystery visitor. Now I'm hearing that the Madaris visit may be back on, but I thought we were done at WR. By the way, I'm browsing with Safari and the comments show up and I'm able to comment as usual. Although, the text and the icons by each comment are significantly larger. The change occurred around three days ago.

  14. Ranking are always nice for bragging rights but rankings can't take into account intangibles and work ethic. Michigan has not had recruiting classes that have born excessive fruit on the football field. I think that trend is about to change with Hoke and his staff being able to better identify players that will excel on the college level with proper coaching and development.

  15. Guys, a note for those who are having trouble reading / posting to this site. I have been having the same trouble for the last two days using Internet Explorer. But using Google Chrome or my tablet running Android it works fine. So I would guess that the trouble is between IE (or perhaps just a single version of it) and the web site. FYI I'm running IE8 version 8.0.7601.17514 on a Windows 7 16 bit platform.

  22. Caleb I like that four, seems feasable. I don't see diamond coming, you absolutly never know though.

I can't remember previous years, do we usualy have alot of talk on recruiting sites regarding top prospects early on? Seems like alot of the top '13 prospects are showing intrest. I could be wrong, and it's deffinatly to early to tell, but it looks very promising.

I agree with Maize, rankings arn't everything, if the have talent they got it. However if they have high ratings they probably played in a tough division and or competed well against top players in combines and camps. So they're a lot less of a gamble.

As for CB height, on rivals where it has "this player reminds us of" (NFL players) seems like all the CB's are 5'10. If you think about it, it don't realy matter unless it's a true "jump ball" situation, particularly in the endzone. For the most part they just need to be in the right place at the right time.

On to recruiting. I am at the point when I just want it to be over. I am sure thinks will clear up spittle after this weekend. I am hoping for Reeves, Garnett, Grant and a surprise recruit.

  24. Apparently the big news is Robinson and Floyd are returning for their senior years....I thought we knew that?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow! Sal Sunseri is without a doubt Bama's top recruiter! That is not only a huge blow for Alabama (although they will get another great coach/recruiter to replace him), but a great pick up for the Vols. Many believe that Sunseri is the BEST recruiter in CFB. Head coaches may get the credit, but the assistants do a lot of the grunt work. Hoke may get credit for our class but Greg Mattison and Fred Jackson have done a lot of the heavy lifting.

  27. The NCAA is saying that Ohio, although banned from bowl competition next year is still able to collect a share of the Big Ten bowl profits. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I know the NCAA loves Ohio for some reason even though they are boring and cheat like hell and drag the NCAA through the mud, obviously why the NCAA loves them, but SERIOUSLY? This is so laughably a case of favoritism I feel like puking. I am amazed they even banned Ohio from a bowl game next year. I wanna beat that fucking school into the ground more than EVER!!! Go BLUE!!! BEAT THE FUCKEYES, IT'S ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. HoneyWolve, I believe that the B1G decides who gets a share of the bowl profits not the NCAA but I could be wrong? And Ohio being banned from the bowl game is comparable to a team going 5-7 (or any other record that isn't bowl eligible) and still getting their share of the bowl money.

  29. Jesus, you said Robinson and Floyd were coming back. I'm thinking, OK, Robinson, who the hell is Floyd? DUH J.T Floyd! My only question is, why the hell was he considering leaving? It's debatable whether or not he should of been the starter! That being said, he did play hard and showed some progression from last year. Hopefully with another year of good Dback coaching he'll really emerge along with Countess/Avery.

As for everyone have problems, I havnt had a single problem. I like to credit it to the use of GoogleChrome. I never EVER use internet explorer, its way to slow and has way to many problems. Firefox is OK, but Google Chrome is definitely the way to go when it comes to browsers.

    WR: Junior Hemingway
    OL: David Molk
    DL: Mike Martin
    S: Jordan Kovacs
    K: Brendon Gibbons

Yea thats right, MICHIGAN'S FIELD GOAL KICKER WAS SELECTED ALL BOWL TEAM. I'm not sure anybody here would have guessed that pre-season lol

  32. I'd like to pose a question. I'm a firm DR believer, I know he has his flaws, but I also know he has the athletic ability and potential to be a good dual threat QB. That being said, thinking SOLELY for DR's future. Should DR himself, consider a position switch? He submitted his evaluation request to the NFL, and we can only assume (since he's coming back) that it was NOT impressive at all. He's 5'11, 190 lbs. The entire country has the perception that he can't throw the ball. Should he make the switch to slot/return man? I honestly think if he were to do that, and excelled at it as I think he could, he would get much more respect after his senior season and in the draft. I REALLY believe he will NOT be drafted as a QB. Even if he throws for 3000 yards at 65% and 30 tds next season, his size alone will make teams extremely hesitant.

I'm not trying to start up the old "get rid of DR, put DG in!" argument. I support DR, live and die by the shoelace. I'm only speaking in terms of his future success. If he stays at QB, he could definitely be remembered as a great/explosive college QB, but in Denards own words "playing in the NFL is a dream", and I just don't see that happening as a QB. I think if he stayed at QB, he would still get drafted, but itd be way late, and they would not let him play QB, they would put him in to return punts/kicks. I'm just wondering if he switches to slot/return NOW, and has a whole season to showcase that he can play that position, he would get drafted much higher.

Again, not trying to argue or get anybody upset, just a question.

    1. I have thought for a while that a position change for DR would be better for his NFL career. I thought RB would be a better position DR but now that Toussiant has stepped up to the plate thats out. He could try WR but I am not sure that will work either. And besides DG would have to make huge strides in the off season to take over at QB to do that. DG can do it just don't know if the coaches will let him. I have said most of the season that DG would start next year it may take longer maybe mid season. I will not give up on that. I love DR and he is what a Michigan man is. It just kills me to watch him drop back to pass. If DR starts and finishes the season throwing TDs and not Ints I will eat all the crow UM fans will feed me.

  33. @lalondtm

I can see exactyl were yoour comin from....like u said even if he tears it up at qb chances are he's not going to be. Drafted for that position....I think the decision will be up to dr and hoke, hoke will have enough respect for him to ask him if he wants to contribute another way to help him develop at slot or watever

With that said I hope dr stays at qb cuz that's wats better for this team...he can't get much worse at throwin the ball and he will once again eclipse 1500 yds rushinn next year...unless fitzs totally dominates.....part of the reason dr dominates so much is cuz he touches the ball every play! Slots and kickreturners won't come close to his touches at qb....for us to havee continued success dr most touuch thee ball as much as he can to take pressure off fitzs and too trick the d into puttin 8 in the box so he can bomb it over their heads.

    1. Ya here is the thing with Denard... Keep the kid at QB... your not going to do a position change experiment in college, at least this late in his career. Maybe as a freshman, but now its too late. Let the NFL run that change for their team. He is a QB here, to mess with that formula will only screw things up more. You look at guys that have made changes after college who were QB's. Mobile QB's.. Hines Ward, Randle El, Eric Crouch, and Brad Smith. All of whom were QB's in college but switched in the Pros... they stayed QBs in college. Now guys like Stgeve Breaston and Gallon who were QB's in HS, its natural to change as freshman, but again.. .dont mess with the formula late.
Could he be a weapon? SURE! but if its not broke, dont fix it. and 11-2 wasnt half bad.

I hope he makes a "system jump" in year two with Borges like he did with Rich Rod, but we will see. I also hope that if he isnt 100% that we do go with healthier options. Cause we all know and can see that he does not perform well when injured. We call it a bad performance, only to find out he was hurt or sick later. If he is.. Go with DG... I think good things will happen for sure, I just hope to keep him healthy, and if not have the minerals to sit him till he is.

      Delete
    2. That makes good sense. I agree with you, I really hope he makes the jump like you mention. I certainly won't be surprised if he has a second breakout year. Not only have we already seen him do it with RR (fresh-soph) but we also have, what I like to call, the Borges effect. Poor QB play first year, outstanding QB play 2nd year. I think he will really benefit from a full off-season, I guess we'll find out about his progress in the spring game, and we'll know for sure come September.

  34. C-note-

There is strong medicine in your words. I agree completely.

One factor worth mentioning has the initials DG.

I submit the possibility that DG beats him out for the starting spot. DG's progress at the position, and work ethic, are exemplary and reportedly in no danger of plateauing.

I believe DR has plateaued in his development as a passer. I hope and pray I am wrong. And (this is for you prof) have no desire to not see DR do anything but surpass his, and everyone's hopes.

The fact remains that no QB I can recall ever developed the ability to throw between his Junior and Senior year. (By "throw" I mean consistently threaten the opposition with his arm. Strike fear in the opposition, altering game plans. Not rely on WR heroics to field wounded ducks. Not that the end zone TD to JH was not an awesome pass. I'm reviewing the entire body of work.)

I'd still love to see a shotgun, with a three back set: DG, DR, and a TB. Same formation every time, with the snap going to different recipients. Too bad we just lost the center who could handle it.

In any event, how great is it to have such discussions? DG and DR are both elite athletes, and Michigan just finished an 11 win season, and has a top 5 recruiting class coming. AND the best QB in 2013!

    Go Blue!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Idk why you guys think dg will possibly start next year, Dr played amazing at the end of the year with AWFUL mechanics, which Borges knows how to fix, he made some good throws off his back foot. DG has terrible decision making, everytime they showed a replay he always threw it to a guy who was doubled cover and missed a guy who was completely wide open. Dr will be our qb, were gonna need him down in Texas against Alabama more than you think .... go blue

    ReplyDelete
  36. Zach, I think you may have answered your own question.

MI can't beat AL if AL stacks the box, and dares MI to throw. Which they will.

I agree DR made some progress, and I'd love to see everything click for him at QB. But, if it clicks for DG, he can beat him out. Everyone loves the highlight reel of DR's long runs, but it's really about moving the chains, and DG has undeniable skills as a true dual threat.

I saw DG make typical young QB mistakes. I also saw a guy who is developing as a QB, and making steady progress. I believe his rate of progress at the position is greater than DR's. Will he surpass him? Only time will tell. If so? They will both be on the field together. Every snap.

And, what about 2013? We need DG to continue to develop. No one should be shocked or disappointed if he actually beats out DR next year. They should be happy.

The best player plays. And they are both great players, and by all accounts, even better young men.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Speaking of DG, did anyone notice after DR's TD against Notre Dame when Hoke had Devon by the back of the neck and was walking him back to the sideline? Hoke did not look happy and DG looked just as upset. Never heard what happened? If you recorded it, watch right after the game winning TD.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Bluemarrow, I mean how much better do you think dg will be compared to denard? When they showed his completion rating of the last 3time games I believe it was high 60's or 70 percent even. I don't know many qbs who can do that, you would sacrifice Dr's senior year who will I believe have his best season, for a kid who is still learning how to be a quarterback? Dg will have same stats I believe that Dr had this year(turnover wise), since lack of game experience and he'll be nervous. With Dr at qb, we have the best shot to win the big ten. But if Dr is playing well then yes put dg in there but don't sacrifice his senior year future, for the future, we have a good team I believe for next year, I guess we'll just have to. wait and see

    ReplyDelete
  39. @Gio: I watched the video, I'm guessing Gardner ran onto the field in the end zone to celebrate and Hoke was upset because a penalty would have made the extra point more difficult and at the time UM was only up by 3 and a missed point after would've technically made it a little easier for Notre Dame to tie it. However, there were only 2 seconds left in the game so maybe that wasn't it. I'm guessing Gardner ran on the field in excitement and Hoke was coaching him to make better decisions. But who knows? If someone does, enlighten us. GO BLUE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. So are we really talking about a position change again for an individual who is an early front runner for the Heisman next year? I agree with what someone else said. If an NFL team want's DR for another position, let them do the work and invest the man hours in making such a change. That's not Hoke's problem, his job is to win games for the University of Michigan. DR is so head-and-shoulders above DG on the depth chart this shouldn't even be an issue. With a full off-season ahead of them, Borges will have DR playing exceptionally well. Don't forget DR had a staph infection in his arm for most of the season that was clearly affecting his play. There's a reason why Hoke and Borges stopped using the Jet formation with DG as the qb...he makes horrible decisions and just isn't read for big time college football. As much as this may be difficult for some people with DG man-crushes on this page, I don't think he's going to be anything more than a stop-gap between DR's senior year and the time when Shane Morris will be ready to play.

    ReplyDelete
  41. @akmed: I agree with your statement on DR, he is at the position he should be. However, 2 things you need to be careful of, 1. Gardner wasn't all that bad considering he doesn't have any playing time at this level. Compare Gardner's amount of snaps with DR's and tell me DR makes a whole lot better decisions. I'm NOT saying DR shouldn't start, he SHOULD, PERIOD, but DR needs to improve more than just his throwing in the offseason, but his decision making as well. It was BAD against VaTech, and yes I know we won, but his early Heisman status will disappear quickly once again if he doesn't start reading his progressions and stop throwing passes up for grabs into coverage. DR is our starter and I hope he improves, but HE'S not even there yet. 2. Don't assume Morris is just gonna walk in here and be awesome, lots of high profile guys never pan out, ask Florida, Florida State, and Miami who all had 4 and 5 star QBs who all stunk. Don't brand Morris the savior yet, I think the year Gardner starts may be a potentially huge year. He's a big talent and a Michigan Man sticking with his school and wants Michigan to be back where they were, at the top, that kinda guy we should be supporting more, not criticizing, especially when he hasn't been give the chances DR has, and like I said, DR has still yet to mature. The question is will he? GO BLUE!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wolve: makes sense but the look on Gardners face had me worried. He appeared pissed and appeared he did not like being treated like that. BTW anyone else here residing in Florida? You would be amazed at the folks who are die hard SEC fans really like Michigan Football! Most all comments are followed by how much they hate OSU! Go Blue!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Lmao. Same 'ol discusion. IF DG were to beat out DR for the job I'm all for it, but he hasn't nor will he. You say you haven't seen a QB suddenly be able to throw his SR year. Someone on here already gave you an someone. Mcloud under AB, horrible his first year and lead the nation (or near the top) his SR year, year 2 under AB. I do believe Jason cambell was very similar, also under AB. To say that DR CAN'T throw is silly to me. He did throw for 20td's. To many int's for sure, but a whole lot of them int he threw late, way late. If he throws when the reciever beats the CB, rather then when he's been wide open and the D has time to close and is already closing. Idk if that makes sence. Alot of the WR he hit where standing still in the middle of the field.if he learns to throw before there open, to a spot on the field, rather than waiting to see a wide open reciever he will do well. Like I said you don't have to be Joe Montana to win at the college level.

  44. I'd prefer to move away from the DR/DG, should DR be starting horse that's been dead for months now. This is a huge recruiting weekend for us; has anyone heard or seen any reactions or reports yet? Does anyone know if Wright is actually visiting or not? I was so hyped for Wright because of his height, but from what I've read on here, if he is not a stellar worker and less of a team-first guy, then I would wholeheartedly prefer Reeves. And who doesn't want someone who's name is Armani on their team? Boomer on ESPN used to always call Amani Toomer "Well Dressed" Amani Toomer I believe. At this point, my biggest wishlist would be both Diamond and Garnett for an absolutely unstoppable future o-line. Unrealistic, but anything can happen...

  45. UM basketball looked like shit against Iowa. Garbage! The good thing is you font have to be #1 in the country to win. Not that I think they will, maybe next year.

Wernt they talking about changing the way the post season is played (football)? They said they'd look at all senarios imaginable. What's the deal with this? Playoffs? Finaly?

  46. Cade McNOWN was horrible his first two years, freshman and sophomore year (Borges' first year at UCLA) and fantastic his final two years. The difference was that McNown was a sophomore, not a junior.

Robinson's completion % dropped this year, and he threw less passes but four more INTs than last year. We can say it was because of the offense scheme differences, but there was not much different this year. If you look beyond stats to look at throwing mechanics and decision-making -- DRob has slightly progressed over three years.

My qualms are well documented on this blog. DR will not be much different next year unless he really becomes less selfish on the zone read and also finds it in his heart to take a sack every once in awhile. The coaches are willing to live with DR's mistakes because he's explosive as a runner. DG is a better passer, and others will realize that once DG gets his one or two years under center (2013, 14).

DR has so much athletic ability (fastest QB in college football, perhaps ever) that coaches will continue to give him more chances. But DR has a throwing arm like the Wild Thing. He's Ricky Vaughn. You live with his mistakes as coaches. Perhaps we will win it all when he isn't a head case on the field?

However, 20 TDs is a miraculous stat. Especially when you see that he also completed less than 10 passes in half the games (six) this season, and had five games where he completed less than half of his passes. All of his outstanding games were against bad defenses. Look at the stats. Plus, watch the games. His best throws this year were all miracle completions thanks to, mostly, Hemingway and Gallon.

He has to learn, more than mechanics, to make good decisions under pressure. One: take a sack. Two, throw the ball out of bounds. Three: if you are in the hands of a defender and on your way to the ground, tuck the f-in ball and take the sack. If he does theses things, Michigan can win it all. Four: give the ball to your RB more on the option reads. Too often he holds on to the damn ball rather than allow the RBs to get any rhythm. He needs to stop underutilizing his RBs.

    1. The offensive scheme we are using now compared to under RichRod are completely different. There are different reads. DR's completion percentage dropped because they went down the field a lot more as compared to the bubble screens RichRod likes to utilize. The spread features much much shorter passes than we had this year. AND HE HAD A STAPH INFECTION IN HIS THROWING ARM. Are you kidding me? Try getting a staph infection in your arm and see how accurately you throw. I don't care whether you're a senior or a freshman, if you're running a different offense than what you're accustomed to with different drops, different routes, different timing and different reads, there's going to be a HUGE adjustment period.

DR will be money next season.

    4. @Akmed: he had a staph infection against Minnesota and had his BEST GAME OF THE YEAR. Perhaps having to focus on his arm made him set his feet?

Honestly, there's a big disagreement and those of you who want to defend DR: fine. But, stop telling those of us who dissent that we are dumb.

I watch the games; I played the game. I've been a football fan for 25 of my 30 years.

I'd love for DR to prove doubters wrong. It doesn't matter what system you are in, if you are throwing an INT to a defensive lineman standing ten feet from you and no UM player in sight, then you might not be the best QB there is. If you continuously throw the ball up in the air, for three seasons, when you are getting sack, it too does not matter that you are in your second offensive schemes.

Track DR's INTs and you will find that most of them are not because of the scheme changes or different plays. He's throwing INTs on the same plays they ran last year and the year before. On screens gone wild and on the fake run dink pass. Honestly, those of you who think his 15 INTs are a result of a new scheme should go back and track each INT thrown. Find the pattern.

@superduperluke: I sure hope DR is money.

@C-Note: Hope he can be Eric Dickerson! Actually, I hope Toussaint gets to be Dickerson. Now, that is a player who needs to be fed the ball.

  47. Id be willing to bet professor A, and bluemarrow are the same person. Sound just like him write just like him.

If you ask me DR might as well be a JR this year. Played what 10 plays his FR year? 1 pass (prolly an int lol)? Is he going to come out next year and look like a pro-style qb? Absolutly not. Nobodys saying he's going to. But he is our best chance to win. If he makes better decisions and throws it away, or at least runs it more, like bluemarrow said. He can get the job done, and that's all we need. He's a hard worker, 2nd year under AB, there's no reason not to think he won't do just fine.

Justin. They just don't have the bigs to get it done in the paint. I think that will change next year with the #1 player in the nation 6'10 C coming in. Love hardaway, Burke is a great suprise. I like him better than Morris. Could be wrong but I think he puts up more ppg at 14

As a Bears fan, McNown sucked in the Pros, and I guess I can thank Borges for that? He'll get a good year out of DR next year before DR turns WR in the pros.

  48. Seriously, enough with all the DR/DG talk. DR is this teams starting quarterback and most valuable player. In the last 7 games of the year he completed 61% of his passes threw 9 touchdowns to 6 ints, had an average qb rating of 125 AND rushed for 7 touchdowns. He's never going to be Andrew Luck but get serious when your acting like they guy is a lame duck just waiting for someone to take his starting spot.

  49. Akmed2011. Amen. Couldn't say it better. I just can't see why people are calling for his head when he wins us all the games we've won. Sure he's hurt us here and there but he's the only reason we went 11-2. DG wouldn't have done that, not likely anyway. Then to call for DG in DR's SR season. I mean realy?...you arn't curious to see what DR can do in his 2nd year in the offense? Realy? Even aften the season he just had? Not great but deffinetly damn good!

  50. This subject gets old! Has anyone heard any news about any of the weekend visitors?

  51. I just don't understand the criticism. I mean we all say he's not a pro-style QB, but what is a pro-style QB? I mean the best QB this year is only 6'0". Mark Sanchez is horrible yet he is in the pros. Cam Newton just tore it up this year. Ya I know only like six wins but the man broke Peyton's records. Tim Tebow steps in and takes Broncos to playoffs and wins first round, although I understand the D is a huge reason. But Kyle Orton couldn't win games when he was starting so as much as I hate to say it Tebow deserves the props, limiting turnovers.

Anyway, one thing that can not be taught in football is SKILL/ ATHLETICISM. One thing Denard has, and everyone will agree, is SKILL/ATHLETICISM. The kid can be accurate. He will be better next year. Not to mention he is practicing against a better defense now. RichRod and GregRob's D was so bad that Denard had to learn strictly on gameday. If you ask me he has responded.

To say Denard only had good games against weaker defenses is a false statement. I live in Toledo and my roommate is a OSU fan. That defense is not that bad at all. There offense (probably more playcalling) was so poor, though, so the D was on the field constantly wearing them down. I believe the kid went 14/17, picked them apart. He really had no poor throws all game, not that I remember anyway. Nebraska game he was like 11/17. I was at that game and the kid was on point all game. The toss at the back of endzone to Odoms was WOW.

Like I said in previous posts about DR, I am all for the classic Tom Brady type kid. But man the kid is electrifying, can break any play open.

To end this, no more criticism! Not only does he get to work in the new scheme all offseason but he has to deal with THE GREG MATTISON's defense. IMO, possibly the greatest aspect of having this whole offseason is being able to play against a D that is worth a damn. Maybe not the best, but Mattison's great schemes will help the kid develop is decision making. With that said, I think his timing will be much better also after Borges gets after him.

    GO BLUE BABY!
    ROLL THE TIDE!

  52. WOW!!! I thought this was supposed to be about recruiting. Let the players play. I'm sure it will be worked out in practice and on the field. I personally want the best guys out there that will give UM the best chance of winning.

  53. @Justin. We got a little satisfaction in state losing to NW. Crazy. Last week state blew out Iowa, we beat NW. Then this week we lose to Iowa and state loses to NW. Goes to show anything can happen.

@Illinoisblue when recruitings slow it turns into a sowing circle. Can't talk bout recruiting untill we get a commit and or fill the class. Nobody knows anything about the last four spots. Once we start '13 there will be lots to talk bout.

@Shane p. Well said. I realy like your point about practicing against a drasticly better D. Never realy considered that. And another excelent point about tebow. Every pass he throws wobles like a duck, yet he's in NFL playing qb dispite the fact everyone said he wouldn't. I was watching sports center the other day they showed a int of his, hillarious, made DR not look so bad. He tried his little jump pass, only it was a 50 yrd bomb, got picked. Lmao. I mean who jumps when they throw a bomb, and you thought throwing of the back foot was bad.

Although this isn't the first DR/DG debate, I like the way this ones going compared to the last. I've only seen a few people (which I think is the same person) on here doubting DR this time. At least he's getting suport this time. When we open against bama all questions will be answered.

  54. Um, Smokey, the only thing I have in common with BlueMarrow is being a Michigan fan who happens to have pretty good grammar.

If people on here have multiple names, then you have more time on your hands than I do. I have one screen name.

Sorry for not being a DR sycophant, and for this being a recruiting blog -- it's pretty funny that so many people on here continuously talk about players on the roster. There's a big difference between my long-winded explanations about why DR is overrated and has made more games close than he has won big games big. Honestly, I'm not on here to trash other people or even DR. But when I watch the games DR and John Navarre are two of the most mind-numbing QBs we've had here.

And honestly, I'll be short on the type of QB I want. Not Tom Brady mobility, Devin Gardner/Logan Thomas mobility. DR is just a faster Charlie Ward. Gardner is the Cam Newton-type QB on our team.

For those of us with a valid opinion that is as allowable as those whining about criticism: deal with it. I've been reading this blog longer than most of the people who have started commenting on here, and I have the ability to my views.

Nebraska was DR's best game against a solid defense, but they still weren't that good of a defense. Ohio State's defense was weak all year. Honestly, I watch a lot of OSU games, too, because my wife is a fan and I am from Ohio originally. That wasn't a good game, and I got a lot of shit from OSU friends about how close that game was.

  55. Lmao professor a. Ok...my apologys. At least you see why I would draw such a conclution. I like the way you get your point across better. (not that it matters) you are entitled to your opinion no doubt. You dont have to be a DR fan, you can like DG better. You can even say DR should be moved to another position, but that's the part that bothers me. If DG was better I gaurentee hoke would put him in. He wouldn't keep DR in just because the fans want to see him, you know what I mean? If DG was truely better he would be playing, that's all there is to it.

I realy hope we blow some people out so DG can get some time, and we can watch him play. I'm realy looking forward to his SR. He'll know the system well, his teammates well. He should have good weapons to work with, a good D, I'm confident he's gonna do well.

That's why I'm so excited, DR light it up this year, DG next, then hopfully Morris. We're in pretty good shape. As someone pointed out earlier there's no gaurantee on Morris. He could be a bust, I hope not. Should have solid skill positions around him and a good coaching staff, that always helps. He did more than hold his own at the camps last year, as a SO!! So I'm pretty optamistic.

  56. Was just looking on scout, they have Jermey Clark listed as 6'4 195 4.47!! So he must not be able to catch? He has WR writing ALL over him!

  57. Second year in the new Offense and Defense, and I can't wait to see how much all our players improve next season. 11-2 in a new schemes is impressive. I think we can only get better. I hope DG gets more playing time this year, but DR is our QB and this is his team. Defensively I think we'll need some young guys to step up in the two deep and make plays.

I love this blog and I love talking football with fellow Michigan fans. Debate is healthy, and opinions are just that opinions. Don't take things personal we all want the same thing. Michigan to win the B1G, NC, and DR to have a Heisman senior year. Go Blue!!!

  58. I am ready for some good news from the recruiting front. I thought Grant would have committed by now.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I like Wilson and Dymonte Thomas to be our future safeties. WR is definitely a possibilty if the kid can catch. Just think though 6'4 safety with the speed to cover a lot of ground. I love this recruiting class and what the future holds under Hoke.

  60. I don't get what the upside to starting Gardner is? Can somebody explain it to me? Who can honestly tell me that we would have gone 11-2 if Devin Gardner was our starting QB all season? Could he have led us to wins over Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Ohio State? I can see the debate over switching Denard to another position if we had another QB who could lead us to an 11-2 season. I really do. But is Gardner that guy? No. Not even close. For all you believers in Gardner, do you believe you know what is best for the team better than Borges and Hoke? Do you think they don't know who could probably win games best for us? I'm shocked that people would question our coaches' judgement at all after an 11-2 season. And I'm ESPECIALLY shocked that people would question their judgement with no real on field results to back it up. Gardner's stats this year? 11 for 23, 176 yards, 1 TD, 1 pick. If Denard had those numbers in a game against say Ohio State, you Gardner believers would be throwing DR under the bus. Oh and I'd like to see you Gardner believers try to throw against D1 defenses with a staph infection on your throwing arm. Get real.

Is Denard the best QB ever? No. Is he even close? No. Is he a great throwing QB? No. Does he make stupid decisions sometimes? Yes. But to question that he's our best bet at this point is ridiculous. We went 11-2!!!! What do you want out of the kid? I think Denard will have a great senior season, as Borges's 2nd year QB's have always had. I also believe Gardner will have a very good senior season if he keeps improving. But to suggest he is better than Denard right now is ridiculous.

  61. Comparing DR to Charlie Ward is very high praise Prof A. Heisman winner and led team to National Championship. If that's all DR achieves at Michigan, I'll settle for that. But comparing DG to Cam Newton is to funny! DG is no where close to Cam! Good QB but not on his level! Regardless of who starts Alabama will make them look subpar.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Bballislife, Devin Gardner is a young QB with a lot of potential. As a QB he has more upside than Denard does as a passer. He is way taller with a stronger arm, but with young QB's your gonna get young QB mistakes. There is no guarantee he will be a great QB, but we won't know till he plays more. I already stated this Denard is the starter this year, but I would like to see Devin get some snaps to get more game experience running the offense.

  63. Michigan is not recruiting Yuri anymore because we think he's better off at safety and we're now pursuing reeves HARD.
Tremendous has some really nice interviews with Shane morris, dymonte Thomas, Ty isaac etc. Isaac rated his visit 9 out of 10 .I really want reeves and Garnett!! NSD has become my favorite holiday lol

    Hurry up feb 1st!

  66. DR only lost two games by a few points, but his INT's lost those games...we should have beat Iowa soundly! He'll have a better year in 2012, and we may beat Bama if he relaxes and gets into his rythm early ~ that's the key. One can only imagine what Blue could have done with Mallet and Pryor...both monsters, that could open up the run game; hopefully DG and Morris are just like them. Go Blue!

    ReplyDelete
  67. @Lionman: We want a tattoo receiving, pawn shop trading, show up in illegally attained car type QBs?
We had Mallet 1st and he bolted (understandibly, but still) and TP is a thug that would have helped RR destroy the program.
I don't want to nit pick but damn, of all the qb comparisons you could have pulled from each race it was them? Lol.

  68. A LB from the state of Michigan accepted a preferred walk on spot with U of M...you know, just thought we could use a comment on recruiting and not an argument over who should of shouldn't be the starting QB.

Any thoughts on the TE Grant, is it a bad sign that he didn't commit after his visit this weekend. Or do you guys/gals think he will still flip?

Go Blue and I really hope we beat Sparty in hoops this week.
