Final Scout 300

Scout.com has released its final rankings for the 2012 recruiting class, or at least the top 300 prospects. The list includes a whopping 14 Michigan commitments, which is very encouraging. You can view the full 300 here, but below are the Michigan rankings:

 - 5* Kyle Kalis: #35 overall, #6 OT
 - 4* Ondre Pipkins: #65 overall, #7 DT
 - 4* Joe Bolden: #69 overall, #4 OLB
 - 4* Erik Magnuson: #82 overall, #15 OT
 - 4* James Ross: #83 overall, #7 OLB
 - 4* Tom Strobel: #93 overall, #12 DE
 - 4* Royce Jenkins-Stone: #111 overall, #2 MLB
 - 4* Mario Ojemudia: #162 overall, #20 DE
 - 4* Chris Wormley: #164 overall, #21 DE
 - 4* Terry Richardson: #183 overall, #14 CB
 - 4* Amara Darboh: #205 overall, #32 WR
 - 4* Devin Funchess: #221 overall, #8 TE
 - 4* A.J Williams: #225 overall, #27 OT
 - 4* Jarrod Wilson: #245 overall, #19 Safety

Key Targets: Josh Garnett (#42 overall, #3 OG), Armani Reeves (#79 overall, #6 CB), and for comparison's sake ONLY, Yuri Wright (#146 overall, #10 CB).

Thoughts: Very positive rankings if you're a Michigan fan. There aren't really any shockingly bad rankings, although TR @ #183 might be a tad harsh seen as he got great reviews from perhaps the greatest corner to play the game, Primetime himself!

Apart from that, I'm happy. By the way, these are going to be the most positive rankings UM gets, rivals and ESPN will be harsher, just based on where our prospects currently lye with them. Not sure about 247 sports.

Fun Fact: We have 14 commits in the top 300, MSU has 2.

  1. Six players in the top 100. That is pretty good stuff. I agree on Richardson - I think some are worried about his size, but his speed, movement and ball skills are top-notch. He just needs to widen his frame a bit.

  3. Well crap, rivals is now stating Yuri Wright & his coach will be touring AA campus this weekend. So much for his visit being cancelled. Let's get NSD here to get all this speculation over with.

  4. I agree with the surprise over the T.Rich rankings. They may have changed but doesn't ESPN have him as Michigan's best overall recruit, and scout has him as 10th. Seems like a big gap. Oh well, I look forward to see him patrolling the secondary with Blake and keeping that Cass Tech pipeline open.

  5. Great class as of right now, and I'm hoping we add a couple more 4 star talents before signing day, this class will do great things before their time is up. GO BLUE!!!

  6. I am surprised with Ondre's ranking, I thought he would move up much higher

  9. Does any one think Hoke will go after Darby? I mean we were interested in him earlier and he looked pretty good in his All American bowl game. I know I would if I was hoke

    ReplyDelete
  10. Darby is looking for a school with a excellent Track program as well due to his elite speed and possible chance at running in the Olympics. I dont know much about Michigans track program, but I would guess that it if it isnt the greatest then we are out for Darby.

  11. We have no shot at Darby, he has a final 5 and we are not in it.

  12. for all the david perkins man crush lovers, he has the remaining of his official visits scheduled and none of them consist of a trip to ann arbor. we can only hope that he doesnt choose OSU

    Illinois Warm Jan 24
    Michigan State Warm Jan 27
    Missouri Warm Dec 9
    Ohio State Warm Jan 13
    Oregon Warm Jan 20

  13. Thanks guys, I was just throwing that out there because I knew he decommitted from ND and we were once on his list. For the remainder of the class I just want....
1 CB - If Darby was possible it would be Darby, Reeves, then Wright
2 OL - Diamond (keep him away from OSU and Wisky) + Garnett
1 Stud at any position - I don't feel like we are in a drastic need for TE. Reason being is we will have DR for QB next year and he doesn't require or utilize a TE the same way Shane Morris or even DG will for that matter.

  14. I hate to say this Nate but TE was VERY important to Denard, and our offense as a whole. Kevin Koger is going to be missed big time. Up to the Sugar Bowl he was third on the team in receptions, and untill JR Hemmingways 2 tds he had the lead in touchdowns with 4. Hemmingway of course tied him with his MVP performance, but his value as a saftey valve as well as redzone threat will be greatly missed.

  15. I agree, I felt Koger was never utilized to his potential

  16. One comment regarding Terry Richardson and his ESPN ranking. ESPN is COMPLETELY biased in favor of the guys that play in the Under Armour All American game. They televise it, they have special logos next to their rankings and claimed to have the number one player at their position for 13 of the 16 possible positions at the UA game. Basically, if you play in the UA game ESPN favors you and gives a better rating than on most sites.

  17. UM is up to seven visitors this weekend. Does anybody know all of them? I know about Grant, wright, Diamond and Reeves. Not sure on the others.

Targets: (2012) Jordan Diamond, Armani Reeves, Yuri Wright, Sam Grant, (2013) Ty Issac and E.J. Levenberry Jr. (he's a LB out of Virginia).

  20. Perfect... they come to town when the weather goes to crap and we are supposed to get snow... AWESOME. all year we have been without snow and for the most part, crap weather. Until this weekend. SMH

  22. Was at Crisler last night and the atmosphere at the arena was amazing... Got to see home and the whole football team and got a picture of the sugar bowl trophy. What a great birthday present! I picked up my son from school and made the three hour trip north and back the same night!

  23. Good/Bad News. As for bama players declaring for the draft. Trent Richardson, Dre Kirkpatrick, Courtney Upshaw, Mark Barron all declared. The rest of the top juniors including Donte Hightower have yet to declare yes or no

    ReplyDelete
  24. Courtney Upshaw and Mark Barron were both seniors. They cant declare for the draft they are already in the draft.

  25. Yuri is not visiting this weekend, rivals just reported this. I think its because the coaches are pursuing armani a bit harder. Really a bummer because with Standifer decommitted and wright now seemingly off the board it seems to me like we are very undersized at CB.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @charlie

Yuri wont be playing CB in college. He is to slow. Watch the Army game and what people said about him. Everyone is saying he is going to be a safety. Plus the kid is more of an I person and less of a team person.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The rankings don't really matter. They're just estimations on a player's potential. Considering how close a lot of the ratings are, it tells us that we have a TOP TIER class coming in. Size at CB doesn't mean as much as people think. Reeves must be being recruited harder for a reason. The Honey Badger comparison is a good one. He's shorter yeah, but he's still quite a dominant CB. Relax guys, If Wright doesn't end up here, it's for a reason and our coaches are the ones making that decision. We have bigger safeties coming in and THAT is where size matters more! Take care and Go BLUE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yuri is and he isnt.. is and he isnt.. Rivals says he isnt, then scout says he is... So until this weekend is over I really dont care. I am basically done caring about the whole situation, considering how well we have done up to this point. Just excited to get to Feb 1st.

  29. @Big_Blue
your right, I knew they were I was just listing all the players that ESPN was showing leaving, shoulda clarified, good catch.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Big Blue Yuri is not slow by any means. In a foot race I would take him over T-Rich, but short area quickness is the difference and the ability to react quickly. Playing corner back is more about instincts, recognition and recovery speed than anything else, including size. Although size is great to have, it isn't worth giving up any of the other three components. With his frame at 6'2 and 180 lbs, and his raw skills in man-to-man coverage this has made the coaches prioritize and it sounds like he is less important than Reeves is. If Wright told the staff that he is willing to convert to safety, because he wants to be a Wolverine I bet they would still take him. He is very talented and may be a great FS. I trust Hoke, he hasn't given me a reason not to.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @caleb

I agree with you I think more than anything I am just tired of hearing about Yuri Wright. The coaches sound like they don't want him for whatever reason and I don't second guess the coaching staff.

    @lalondtm

I just heard Dont'a Hightower is going to the NFL. Wow the top three juniors for Bama that were talking about going to the NFL all went.

    1. Of course they are... as I predicted... they won their National Title, they arent going to risk injury when they are first round material. Just makes sense.

  32. Marlin Jackson was shy of 6' too. Besides getting clowned by Plaxico Buress his frosh year, he was a fine CB. Yrust the coaches.

  33. in my opinion James Ross was one of the best and Michael Bennett from Hostpph also thinks the same, so I think it is not a coincidence I think he is one of the best
