Boom!

2013 QB Shane Morris commits to Michigan.

This could prove to be a huge pickup for Michigan, especially coming so early in the recruiting process. Shane Morris is pretty much a guaranteed four star QB, and he could be one of the Midwest's best prospects next year.

Morris is already a big name in the Midwest, and having him committed this early is bound to attract other 2013 prospects to take a look at Michigan, especially wide receivers, which should be a big need in the 2013 class.

This also means that Michigan doesn't have to land that elite guy this year, like a Zeke Pike or Gunner Kiel, because they now already have a top QB ready to take over once Denard and Devin are done. UM can now look to perhaps take a chance on a sleeper prospect at QB in 2012, maybe a guy that's not so polished right now, but has a lot of upside.

Coach Hoke apparently told Morris that they'll still take a QB in the 2012. However now I think the likelihood of that guy being Gunner Kiel is much lower. Whilst Kiel certainly has the talent to compete for the starting role, I'm sure he'll find that other schools have better opportunities for him. Some schools would probably guarantee him playing time early on.

I'll now set up a 2013 commitment page, with an abbreviated commitment post for Morris coming later.

  4. Yeh you just HAVE to love this pickup. It really takes the pressure off 2012 QB recruiting, and if Morris is a keen recruiter, he could help lure in some big names in 2013.

  5. According to many analyst he has a legit shot at the number 1 QB slot for next year. He could be the biggest pick up for us for next year and it is already early. Love it.

  7. Big land for the program, but lets just remember the lessons learned from Ricardo Miller and Marvin Robinson. Guys hyped up after great sophomore years don't always end up being 5 star recruits.

  8. @ Benji. Does that mean you are now a fan of Rivals Recruiting ?. Gotta Be right ?.

  9. What does this have to do with Rivals?

  10. I agree about watching the hype but there has been 5 star chatter around him for the last few months. They say his mechanics are well above his age and at the 7 on 7 camps and games he was considered the best QB there. This included some highly rated QB from this class. To me that says alot.

  11. @Benji. You were having a ranting day because of rivals, now this commitment makes your day right ?. It's a joke. Got humor ?

  12. Lol, I'm certainly very happy right now, but I won't forgive Rivals until they name Shane Morris a 5*!!!

  13. This recruiting surge has been great but there is still one thing I really, really want.........Brionte Dunn! The only thing that can top this years recruiting is to steal away one of OSU's favorite commits.

  14. I'd rather have Chris Wormley than Brionte Dunn (no matter how badly rivals grades him). But that's because I'm buying into the buzz around Thomas Rawls, that kid has the potential to be our starter for a long time.

  15. Hahahahahahaaa! That's what I did when I saw our newest commit. Pumped up for a kid who dreams of being successful at Michigan. I thought we'd get more than 2 commits this week, and I thought we might get a qb this year, I just never thought it'd be for the 2013 class. wOOt!

  16. My perspective on this commitment is now we can turn up the volume on Kiel and Pike, put more eggs in that basket, rather than slowing down on them because we have Morris in the fold. I don't see this commitment having any impact on Kiel or Pike's interest in UM. I would find it hard to believe that those guys have reservations on account of a QB in the class behind them. They will have competition at any upper tier program, whether in the classes ahead or behind them. The bonus is if we were to strike out on Kiel/Pike, we can survive without taking a QB in this class, so we should aim high.
