Wayne Morgan Announcement

A silent commitment is rumored over the weekend, and now Wayne Morgan is set to announce on June 1st, I'll let you decide if these two events are connected ;)

Regardless of the above, Michigan is in a great position for Wayne Morgan. At the start of spring we were trailing Rutgers, but chipping away at their lead seemingly on a daily basis until he said they were an even top two. Then a couple weeks ago, word on the street was that Michigan was the new leader, so yeah, I think he'll be picking Michigan.

Morgan is one of the top DBs on Michigan's board, and he has the added bonus of being able to play corner and safety, making this a potentially very good pickup.

  1. I'm just curious why D.J. Humphries has Michigan listed as his top school on rivals. I know rivals is crap, but I had no idea we were even in on this guy, let alone the leader. Is this completely inaccurate?

  2. Didnt find this blog until just before the Ojemudia announcement and cant believe I didnt find it sooner. Great work Benji

  3. Rivals also has us as one of the leaders for Darius Hamilton. How can we be in on 2 5 star guys (according to rivals) and us not even be talking about them. Is rivals really that crappy that they have us in on two 5 star guys that isn't true?

  4. This can only be good news for Michigan. Seeing that Rutgers is the only other contender for his services, per his top two list, there would be no reason to announce this early if they are his intended destination. He could leave them dangling until signing day, and they'd still have him. Michigan's commit list on the other hand is filling up fast.
Look for 16-17 commits by the first week on June, and then a sharp slow down until the fall season (I believe letters of intent aren't allowed until August 1st) with perhaps a couple of big time recruits closer to signing day. Go Blue!

  5. We were probably in on those 5 star guys on rivals early. Rivals tends not to update their players choice of schools that often.

  6. Benji, who do you think are our most probable next commitments say the next 5-6.

O yea, please respond to my email! Thanks.

  7. Best Michigan recruiting blog on the net. Benji,, Ive turned many friends on to you over the past couple weeks since I found you. Is it possible the silent commit announces this week, then Morgan the following? The way we are landing recruits I wouldn't be surprised. What's the latest with Ondre Pipkins, he really tore it up in Ohio last week with the rest of our boys.

  8. Benji,
On some other sites I have heard people saying that we may have picked up a second silent commit in the last few days. Other than Godin and the new commit. Any truth to this, or are people just getting the whole commit number messed up.

  9. Ondre Pipkins will announce later into his season. We are in a high position with Pipkins we need to let this one play out. I think he will be blue in the end.

  10. Benji im excited about my first Manchester united game in Seattle july 12th. Its a big deal for me, but it would be a whole hell of alot cooler if it was at wimbley. Just wondering if you've ever been there, and if so how awesome is it.

  11. I hope things slow down a bit because most of the 5 star kids can't tell the real offers from the fishing expeditions until they get the actual letters. They best out of state talent won't start deciding until August and I hope we still have room for some of them. :)

  12. @Brent Who can say? Only these kids, really. It would be great news if it were true. Pike had us in his top 2 a while back. Most of the top recruits are keeping it quiet until they get more than a verbal offer but Michigans coaches are very charismatic and connect with people right away. I wouldn't be surprised if Michigan were in a strong position with a few top linemen because they offered almost every one of them and they mean business. We're in the discussion for quite a few kids, hopefully we make it past a few top 5's and into more top 2s.

  13. @ Richard
Did you see Beckham will play for Manchester United in a testimonial match for Gary Neville? I never thought I'd be this excited about Beckham playing again. Should be an incredible lineup.

  14. @ Michael... no I didn't, were did you read about that

  15. t looks as though we are currently leading for Andre, everything matches. He is looking to play in Michigan as he has much family there. He wants early playing time which we can provide. Finally, academics matter to him and the coaches are very high on him, it looks like a match made in heaven.

  16. He is big on trying to earn a business degree. Tough road of study but we have a great program.

  17. At this point it appears as though the coaches strategy is to fill about 20-21 spots as quickly as possible (fulfilling positional needs with very good-elite level talent) and then reserve 4 or more spots for these out of state blue-chippers who plan on taking their time with the decision. This will allow our coaches and our current commits to focus on recruiting these remaining few studs with the highest amount of effort possible. In the end, I honestly think we will have a top 5 class.

  18. Tom just posted this today:

California DT Aziz Shittu sent me a message that said Michigan coach Dan Ferrigno was in school with him today. Shittu is a five star, ranked 12th overall nationally, and currently committed to Stanford. He also had this to say about his future.

There's a possibility that I'll be taking an official to Michigan. I'm not sure of the schools that I will be taking officials to yet.

His plan is to stay committed for now, but to take all his official visits during the season. Something to keep an eye on.

This kid would be a huge pull from Stanford. 5 star DT, absolute monster.

  19. @Richard
ESPN. They're reuniting the "Class of '92" Looks like Gary Neville, Phil Nevile, Nicky Butt, Scholes, Giggs, and Beckham so far. Don't know about the other 5.

  20. @Will, sorry I forgot about your email, it was the one about the 2013 Cass Tech corner right? The reason I didn't respond is because I couldn't actually find out his name. I couldn't remember where I originally saw it, and because he doesn't have an offer yet, he's virtually unknown.

As for the next 5 commits: Morgan, Wormley, Kiel, Standifer, Gant? Those are five guys that could be announcing within the next few weeks, not saying all will pick UM, but Michigan has a good chance with all 5.

  21. @Mucktuck, I think there's a rumor about another silent, but I haven't heard any real confirmation yet. I think someone commented on here yesterday that it was Tom Strobel?

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Richard, I've never been to Wembley, although one of my friends has a like a season ticket for all England games, and he tells me it's pretty special. Hopefully Aston Villa will make the FA cup final, so I have a reason to go!

  23. Is Missouri considered Midwest for the silent commit?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm not sure....are you thinking Pipkins or Boehm

    ReplyDelete
  25. Official, DJ Williamson is transferring. Does that give us 18 scholies for 2012?

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Timbo, it depends on where you come from. I'm from Iowa originally. I live in Missouri now, most from this area consider themselves from the Midwest. FWIW

  28. Thanks Benji, no problems!

  29. @Paul Andre who?
and Michigan is looking to pick up 6 offensive linemen

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think it does give us 18. Coaches are recruiting for a class of near 25 by January. Tough to even guess which scholarship players will go.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Will, Beg your pardon, I meant "Ondre" and Pipkins is to whom I was referring.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Is it just me or is Pipkins sounding more and more like he is already a Michigan commit?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think he is a strong lean but we have to let this one play out all the way.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Benji you are the best, as well as Dylan on the other varsity site. Lol

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ya it just seems he is already a commit on the Scouts web site

    ReplyDelete
  36. What is the full web address to this Scouts web site? Please advise! Thank You GO BLUE

  37. wwww.michigan.scout.com try this

  38. Benji- Villa has Guzan, Lichaj, and now Bradley. Do you think they'll play them next season? Do you think they'll keep Young as well?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Who do you think will be our next tight end? Is Ron Thompson out of the picture now?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Things have gone a little off course with Thompson. If things don't clear up I don't think we take another tight end. I think we use this for an extra DL or OL. Maybe even just hold it for a potential big player that wants to sign much later in the process.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Would be much better to get WR Leonte Carroo and then give Ron Thompsons place to Carroos teammate DE Darius Hamilton.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Michael
Where do we stand with Caroo and Hamilton.....are we in play?

    ReplyDelete
  43. WAYNE Morgan got a 4th star on scout

    ReplyDelete
  44. Bolden, RJS, Richardson and Ross have 4 stars across the board (Rivals, Scout and 247).......So does Morgan. Would be great to make him our next commit.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I couldn't find anything more tangible than them saying nice things about every school who offered but Carroo is being seriously under-appreciated right now. He made Lemmings top 100 a while ago yet is only 211 on Rivals, 80something on Scout, and barely on the 247. I give the nod to Tom Lemming every time. His offer list is very thin: Maryland, Rutgers, UCF, Ohio(just ohio), Pitt. He finally got bigger offers from UNC, BC, ND, Mich., Illi., and Wisco but thats it. Great speed, great hands, big, and a 3.4gpa (he wants an actual degree.)It could be another Mich/Rutgers battle.

    ReplyDelete
  46. On that note Darius Hamilton is being seriously undervalued as well, offer-wise. He's the #5 player in America on Rivals yet has 3 token Pac 12 offers $C-Cal & Colorado, 2 token SEC offers Tenn $ South Car, and zero Big 12 offers. It's basically Big East, Big 10, or ACC for him.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 2 for 1 sale. SOLD! and Michael for whatever it's worth.....even if it's the other one, "It's just OHIO"

    Thanks
    Phil

    ReplyDelete
  48. Iprobably shouldn't bring it up but they have 2 other top teammates in SS Elijah Shumate and Rivals top 100 CB Yuri Wright. All 4 of them are looking for a competitive program that is academically sound, and a chance to compete for playing time. All 4 of them have GPA's above 3.0 and want to get degrees, though they understand the combination of all 3 requirements and space for all 4 of them is a rarity (except Michigan meets all of those needs right now.)
I have to believe that 4 top 10 players (at their positions that is) all from the same school means that Bosco produces some impressive young men more often than not. Pipeline please!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Maybe we can fill a class with Bosco, Taft, Cass and Farmington Kids!!! I only see this class getting stronger. I think that we already have have as many 4 stars as we did last year and I can see several more and maybe a 5 star or two committing!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. The strange thing is most of the top prospects aren't narrowing down their lists yet because they've gotten 50 verbal offers from everybody and they're waiting to get the actual paper offer in August to see who's really interested. Our best prospects nationally are just getting started taking visits and thinking about committing.

  51. in my opinion, you could have seen this coming weeks before he decided to make the announcement, I heard about this rumor (at that time) on this price per head services football blog
