Who doesn't love a good Michigan State recruiting meltdown? Lately I found myself visiting the 'Spartan Tailgate' message board quite often. It really is hilarious when Michigan gets a commit and they come up with excuses. Take a look:
Believe it or not, there are one or logical posters mixed in between all the garbage.
If we land Burbridge....
Why not? Aaron Burbridge now added to the Ideal Class list.
"He goes to Cass Tech, which is a UM stronghold - no way we get a recruit from there. Kind of like how they will never get a recruit from Farmington Hills Harrison. Wait, nevermind............." This was on their board... I about lost it when I read it!! GO BLUE!
ReplyDeleteI know, that was a classic! I burst out laughing at a few tbh.
ReplyDeleteThat was the funnest thing I have read in a long time. I may just save that web site for when I need a good laugh. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI lol'd. I never lol, but I couldn't help it. Last year my sparty friend was talking about how nobody wanted to go to Michigan anymore and Dantonio would be taking them to win National Championships- yes that's plural. I just shook my head. He also believes his (fathers) school is pure and virtuous and our kids are a bunch of thugs.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I loved how they made fun of Stonum for being suspended and how they thought Hoke would let him off easy.
ReplyDeleteTwo of MSU's players beat up a guy in like Aspen, kicking him on the ground...they ended up missing like 3 spring practices! That board is delusional!
Benji, What do you think about the car dearler story for OSU? Do you think there is any truth to it?
ReplyDeleteYeh, it's not really that new. I mean there were rumors about Tyrelle Pyror test driving cars for 600 miles or something like that a while back.
ReplyDeleteBut the fact that OSU is now investigating it probably means those old rumors were true.
I guess being co big ten champs went to there heads. They forgot they still have recruit.
ReplyDeleteThose rumors about cars were alleged by Mo Clarret years ago, but he had no credibility.
ReplyDeleteI love the MSU boards. LMAO!!! I dont know why they think its so bad on them now, Michigan always out recruits them they should be used to it. Hey Benji great sight brother. GO BLUE!!
ReplyDeleteI've got to admit the Spartan loyalists seem to be coming a bit unhinged. But my question is why are they all thinking that they're going to be good the next two years? They lost some talent to the draft this year and I don't see them replacing Greg Jones anytime soon
ReplyDeleteDang, I checked back in fully expecting two more recruits since my last comment. That's one reason why Hoke was absolutely the right choice as Head Coach. We could have 3 or 4 more by the end of the week!
ReplyDeleteBenji, do you know how Dunn's visit at Michigan went?
ReplyDeleteThe quotes I've read don't sound THAT great, but you have to remember he's trying not to upset OSU fans, so he was hardly going to come out and say that it was the best visit ever!
ReplyDeleteTom on twitter said alot of his visit details he asked not to be shared due to his current verbal to OSU. So his visit may have been spectacular we won't know unless he flips teams. I would look at the obvious though and say he is an OSU commit that visited Ann Arbor and he has not gone anywhere else to look around so to me that speaks volumes.
ReplyDeleteHey Benji, will there be commitment profiles coming?
ReplyDeleteokay thanks.
ReplyDeletewho else was at Michigan this weekend along with dunn?
For all you guys worrying about star ratings the staff knows more about the players' potential than us or any recruiting service. The 3* we are going after are being recruited for a specific reason. Pharaoh Brown looks like an absolute stud on film, and I guarantee you he will be a 4* on all recruiting services by the time it is all said and done (247 sports has him as the #247 player in the country). Also MgoBlog already sees very highly of him if you read the prediction based on filmsy evidence on his Hello post. Standifer is another 3* people have been worrying about, but he fills a specific need. For the last several recruiting classes, and all the DB targets in this class seem to be undersized so Standifer will add much needed height at 6'1".
ReplyDeleteHowever, I am sorry for being hypocritical and completely contradicting what I just said, but there is no way we sign more than 5 D-Lineman. Right now on the board are Ojemudia, Brown, Day, Pipkins, Wormley, and Godin. With all do respect to Godin as he seems to be a great guy and solid player, it's hard to turn away a potential class of Ojemudia, Brown, Day, Pipkins, and Wormley who will all be 4*, and Wormley may even end up a 5* on the D-Line. Also, although we seem to be a long shot, we could get Jarron Jones who is visiting campus although he is a soft verbal to Penn St. Although it is terrible to say this, I hope Godin does not commit to Michigan on the 12th.
Godin does not care what you have to say. Sorry but anyone dogging a kid that wants to commit to UM & whom the coaching staff offered & would accept said commitment, rather you keep comments to yourself.
ReplyDeleteAlright Benji,
ReplyDeleteWhat would you say our chances of landing the following recruits would be..
Ondre Pipkins
Chris Wormley
Jordan Diamond
Sheldon Day
Wayne Morgan
Terry Richardson
and
Brionte Dunn
and do you honestly think we'll end up with any five star recruits or a top ten class?
What are the chances we land some big DT's in this class?? Is it possible we could land a jarron jones with pipkins?
ReplyDeleteWith only 5 Dline scholarships, and pharaoh brown+Omejudia+Godin (committing on the 12th).. we are going to only have 2 more. We would accept day and wormley, so we will probably misss on pipkins and jarron jones. This also confuses me because Godin is said to be a DE/DT mix, so if we landed wormley and day we potentially could have 4 DE and only 1 DT. This is the whole reason why I said I wish we were a little more choosey, it's obvious people are intersted in Michigan again and we can be a little more select.
ReplyDeleteBoy what a problem to have. To much talent wanting to come to Michigan we are living in tough times! If you cant sense that sarcasm you shouldnt be breathing. I am sure the coaches know what they are doing. I do have to say though the stars are a great way of gauging a player I wouldnt count it as the end all be all. The coaches rate these players themselves as well and might not feel the same way as others. Lots goes into the thought process. I also dont think there would be a huge leap from 3 star to 4 star. Sometimes its their high school coaches holding them back you never know. You need role players as well. Though you want people you fighting for playing time you dont want players crying about it either. Just because a kid is a five star dont mean he is going to be the best player ever. Though it might get him some tattoos and a nice car to drive. I am very excited to have Hoke here I love to see that we are getting quality kids that but I dont care if he gets a turd in cleats as long as he beats Sparty and that school down in Blow-HI-OH!
ReplyDelete@ Jennifer, you nailed with Mo Clarrett. If the NCAA digs deep enough they will find this has been going on there since 2001. Tressel is gone,Gene Smith is gone, and that tinker bell school president is gone. The OSU "empire" is exploding like the death star right in front of us. And since I live in Ohio I have a GREAT veiw of it!! lol
ReplyDeleteBeen out watching the Man Utd-Chelsea game (a big deal in England), so I haven't had time to post the commitment profiles, I'll do so in a bit. Questions...
ReplyDelete@Bob, Dunn visited on the Friday, and Devin Funchess, Aaron Burbridge, Mario Ojemudia and Pharaoh Brown all visited on the Saturday.
@Matthew, you're entitled to your opinion, but please don't say that you don't want Godin in the class. Recruits do look at these kind of blogs, they probably google themselves and see what comes up. I doubt Matt would be too thrilled to see some UM fans discouraging him to commit.
As for Jarron Jones, he's a real longshot, even if he is visiting.
@Todd, that's quite a long list so I won't go through each guy individually. I'd say UM has a very good chance with all of those guys except Dunn, who I think will be hard to turn from OSU. Maybe if Tressel is fired, then he'll switch. Michigan will end up with at least one 5 star guy on scout.com's rankings - Jordan Diamond. And yes, Michigan should have a top10 class.
@Brandon, as I said above, Jarron Jones is unlikely to sign with UM, even if he does visit. Because we still have to compete with ND and UNC, as well as Penn State, where he's currently committed. As for big DTs, well Ondre Pipkins is huge at 320lbs, and Sheldon Day/Jaleel Johnson aren't exactly small at 280/290lbs.
@Brian, its a very tricky process for Michigan now, but I'm sure they are doing everything they can to get a quick commitment from Chris Wormley. However, let's assume they take 5 DL before Wormley. And then Chris decides to commit to Michigan; given his talent, I think Brady Hoke would be awfully tempted to take a sixth D-lineman.
I have some friends from there and some are still living there and in fact, they have mentioned me about that and they said that they do really love that
