Ohh my...

Well this is a huge day in the rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State! Jim Tressel, who lets face it, has OWNED Michigan during his tenure as the Buckeye's coach, has resigned. I used to respect Tressel and the image that he portrayed, but the recent allegations have tarnished his reputation amongst me, fans, and perhaps more importantly, recruits.

I think with all the trouble ahead for OSU, he would have eventually been fired, so it makes sense for him to resign now and potentially save OSU from tougher NCAA penalties. One of the assistant coaches has been named as the Interim Head Coach, which could lessen the damage against OSU on the recruiting front; (at least prospects know the new coach).

So here's a quick look at how this will effect a few prospects:

Chris Wormley - Now 'in the bag'. With Tressel gone, I don't see ANY way Wormley doesn't pick Michigan. This will hopefully accelerate his decision timeline.

Jordan Diamond - Personally I didn't think OSU had a great chance of stealing him off Michigan anyway, but I know OSU fans were still hopeful with JD. SEC schools will probably be the main competition now.

Washington and Stanford - I thought the package deal here was destined for Columbus, but now things could be really up in the air. When they visit this summer, Michigan now has a much better chance of swaying them to the good side.

Brionte Dunn - Everyone always asks what I think of our chances with Brionte Dunn, and I never really knew what to say, until now. Michigan has a GREAT chance to steal him away from OSU. He was wavering when the allegations were made, and now he's lost his future coach, plus they will still get penalties, like a bowl ban. Ohio State is probably not looking that good for Dunn right now, whereas at Michigan there is a void at RB in a pro style offense with solid coaches. I'm tempted to say Michigan is a slight favorite, but for now I'll go with 50/50 until we actually hear from Brionte.

Sevon Pittman - Another guy who I thought would be an OSU lock; he'll be up for grabs now, but UM will be full at DE soon.

  1. So the SI article comes out when, tomorrow? Coincidence?

    ReplyDelete
  2. I was certainly thinking that Michael. Even with Tressel gone, OSU is still in major trouble with the NCAA, and it could get worse tomorrow.

  3. Not sure what the weather is like in Michigan right now but it doesn't really matter. It's a beautiful day in the BIG BLUE STATE TODAY!!!

  4. I was thinking the same thing too. The vest must have gotten wind of what was in the article and decided to do what all rats when they know things will get worse...they jump ship. At this point I would have had more respect for him if he would have stayed and taken his punishment like a man. Nope, taking things like a man isn't in integrity vest's vocabulary. The only thing that I will miss is watching him continually get out-coached while he rolls over against big-time non-conference opponents.

  5. Apparently Per Dorman says his article is why. And BOOM goes the dynamite. "I'm told it is likely my SI mag story will be posted at SI.com later today/tonight. Timing of Tress dec. will make sense after you read it" -per his twitter page.

  7. HAHAHAHAHAHA The Vest is gone! Tomorrow's SI article will clearly shred any iota of credibility left which the public or even Buckeyes have for this sanctimonious hypocrite. God, what a great, great piece of news to wake up to, HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!!!!!!

  8. Hey Benji, over at scout they have us picking up a 14th commit. Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  9. If the story of a new commitment broke today, it's probably someone connected to Ohio State, so I'm thinking Wormley.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Benji. What about Dunn. Is there any chance that he liked what he saw at Michigan and was just holding out for hope on tressel

    ReplyDelete
  11. Someone mentioned awhile back about the (2) best coaches osu ever had...

    1. Hayes assaulted a player on the opposing team.
    2. Tressel cheated.

No hall of fame here. Hall of Shame!!

  12. Now the buzz is that Gant will be announcing. Maybe instead of Wormley, even though he might be locked up at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think Wormley is ours, there's a post that TomVH himself locked up, and by the Toledo news reference I've got to believe it's Chris Wormley, It was asked not to speculate because his(whomever he is) family reads Mgoblog, I guess I'll just sit down and watch

  14. so yeah what do you guys think the chances are that they will land urban meyer

    ReplyDelete
  15. Zero. If he wanted to coach he'd still be at Florida. I'm not worried, though. We already beat Urban Meyer.

  16. Other than the commit anouncement on the second has anyone heard anything about anyone else commiting soon that has mich on its board? I am kind of worried that we may have gotten to many to soon, dont get me wrong I am stoked with what we have gotten but now that ohio is on the idk whats happining trail, we may have a shot at some high profile players that we didnt realize before. Im sure hoke knows what hes doing who am I to judge. GO BLUE

  17. An interesting read - http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1920867

  18. Jim Tressel could have saved both his, and Rich Rod's jobs by not playing the Fab Five last season..

    ReplyDelete
  19. Allan Gant has set a date for a press conference... Another Michigan commit?

    ReplyDelete
  20. On top of gant and Wayne we have yet another recruit about to drop per scout.com

    ReplyDelete
  21. Benji is this going to be a busy week for Michigan commit profiles? And any news on who for sure?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't recognize any of the wins ohio and Tressel had over us during the last decade. They are liars and cheats, and I can only hope those games are erased. Suck it, buckeyes!

    ReplyDelete
  23. with the amount of people were in on, i dont see any way we take less than 25

    ReplyDelete
  24. Fox is reporting Pryor is under investion for car and other benefits. This may be the end of Pryor days in OSU. I am starting to be thankful he went to OSU and not Michigan. Has the SI report come out yet?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have to vent a little.
tressel cheated to win all of those games the past ten years. I'm sick of espn hyping his total record & his record against Michigan, it's all a ruse.
And even while he cheated his resume isn't that great. He barely beat teams in the B10 & he got blown away by SEC teams (who cheat as much as he did).
The asshole is nothing but a low-down cheater. Good riddance.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I wish Tressel is going to the SEC next where the cheaters and liars belong!

    ReplyDelete
  27. According to 247sports, Pryor's Ohio State career said to be over!

    ReplyDelete
  28. According to Joe Schad on Twitter, that 8 or 9 players with OSU offers, said to be done with them.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Where did you see that news on Pryor? I didn't find anything on 247... That brings another interesting dynamic to the situation if true.

    ReplyDelete
  30. What a delicious day! Nom nom nom.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wormley, Gant and Morgan are about to Go Blue!

  32. Guys I saw a sign today. I was walking down by Lake Tahoe and next to Vikingsholm I saw bears. It is a sign that Hoke, the Bear God, will deliver us to the promised land!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am from from Columbus, (actually grew up down the street where Tressel lives) but raised a wolverine, all my friends are saying that it is good he resigned so they can get Urban Meyer in there. typical OSU fans.
But also i would always see Pryor driving in his brand new Dodge magnum on campus, and whenever i would say something to my friends about how he would got it, they would say "its not that nice of a car, he probably bought it" Can't wait for this SI article and read more "Hello....." updates.

  34. Plus there's one more that @TomVH has alluded to. June is gonna be sweet! We'll have 16 commits in short order and then it will be time to drink osu's milkshake.

    ReplyDelete
  35. its coming

    ReplyDelete
  36. On 247sports go to the blue board

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hmmm...they ARE from tOSU so maybe it should be explained to them. "If you have a milkshake and I have a milkshake and I have a straw, there it is. That's the straw you see? Now my straw reaches acrooooooooooossssssss the room and starts to drink your milkshake. I, DRINK, YOUR MILKSHAKE!" Now that we have that all cleared up let me just say this...

  38. Well where is the article? I've been looking forward to this all day. I read that it would be posted at 8:00 EST so I put the kids to bed and went outside and watered the plants and fully expected it to be posted when I came back inside....but nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Apparently Fox Toledo announced that Gant is definitely Ann Arbor bound.

  40. Just gotta jump in here on Tressel. This guy and Ohio State have owned our asses for a decade. While he kicked our asses we got outcoached some days and outplayed others. The guy was a great football coach and we can't take that away. The problem I've got with him his that he didn't have integrity. All he had to do a year ago is say "six of my kids screwed up, I've suspended them for the first game or two next season.....We're self reporting" and that would have been the end of it. The kids would have sat out two useless games and tOSU would have continued to be one of the schools with a high rate of self reporting. The guy lost his balls and the possibility of losing even one game was more that he could bring himself to do. The guy knows his football. What he failed to do was teach these kids a "life lesson". I can't take away that he was that good. Bukeye Nation thinks he's been screwed, that he tried to do the right thing, back his players and they just keep making excuses for him. I hope this story makes him out to be the devil that we all so want him to be. If he is that devil, my only concern is that if UofM plays U of Hell, it'll be a tough game. With all this crap going on I hope, really, really, really hope that we just keep running a clean program and I believe we have a man with the integrity to do that. GO BLUE!! Let's all be bigger than those knobs to the south!!!

  41. and now this!!! Apparently Terrelle Pryor showed up to a team meeting in an new car. It's all over Twitter " Nissan 350z with Temp Tags from May 24th" the year of the vehicle is unknown but talk about balls the size of Texas!!!! Even I can't believe that this is true.

  42. I was hoping for more dirt. Hopefully more will be uncovered soon.

    ReplyDelete
  43. plenty of dirt. free tats for basically his entire tenure at the school for players. pretty much the entire roster of starters in the last 4 years got free tats, which can cost upwards of mid 4 figures for the intricate sleeves. players trading tickets for cars, getting free cars, coach signed items being bartered for free things, pryor driving a fleet of vehicles as well as his family getting rides, and the coach/department being fully aware of it all. there will be big sanctions here

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jay,

Did you read the whole story or just the three pases out on SI.com. I agree it really still is just tats for memorabilia.

    Phil

    ReplyDelete
  45. There were only 3 pages on SI.com. Is there more?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I was hoping for more in this article because a user on mgoblog with supposedly insider info in Columbus claims there is pay for play, drug dealing, Ted Ginn Sr. on the payroll to funnel players, girls paid to sleep with players, apartment deals, and free trips. Maybe that will all come out eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Just about everything I read we knew they added a few more players but not that much. I hope there is more?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Not much new came out from what we already "knew" but because of this story Tressel got canned, Pryor is done, all of the extra players named for swapping stuff are ineligible, and the University will get the "lack of institutional control" stamp and worse sanctions than u$c got for just Reggie and one Asst Coaches fib.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh man, do I hope they get slapped with the "lack of institutional control" label. Is this real life?

    ReplyDelete
  50. What does the lack of institutional control label mean?

    ReplyDelete
  51. lack of institutional control is penalty given out if the program has a lack of discipline their kids when discipline is needed. And usually it results in a small penalty like fewer scholarships or probation

    ReplyDelete
  52. lack of disciplinning*

    ReplyDelete
  53. Some of the punishments for lack of control have been loss of 30 scholarships over a 3 year period, multi year bowl/championship game bans, and NCAA mandated TV ban which hurts the most $wise.

    ReplyDelete
  54. According to TomVH we will want to be by a computer this morning on 5/31. Wonder who its going to be

    ReplyDelete
  55. I figured but wasn't 100% sure

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yeah but he's a pure safety and we definitely need that. He's also a legacy with a great pedigree. I'll take it. This is also going to be a big class.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I don't know now that I think about it, mate its bigger news than gant. Don't get me wrong he would be great but I wonder if Tom would hint at a smaller commit as opposed to a major noteworthy one from say wormely. I don't just a thought.
