Rivals.com released their top100 prospects for the class of 2012 today, and it doesn't look too positive for Michigan, with just RJS making the list so far at #87. Rivals are usually quite harsh on Michigan, and I think I remember reading somewhere that they don't have a Midwest analyst, so that's certainly a factor in these rankings.
There were some pretty big snubs from the 100, including Jordan Diamond, Chris Wormley, Terry Richardson, James Ross, Brionte Dunn, Sheldon Day - basically all the top guys that Michigan are going after!
Anyway I tend not to focus on rivals too much, but this lowers my expectations a little for when ESPN releases their rankings in early June.
Note: Rivals only released the ratings of the top100 players; the ratings for Michigan's commits will come out later this week.
Rivals is total garbage. They don't even have a midwest analyst and it clearly shows. They say that it is a down year in the midwest in their statements about Royce, totally inaccurate. I think scout, 247, and even espn will be more accurate this year.

ReplyDeleteHere is information on Rivals.com and their Midwest analysts. One, Bill Kurelic, is clearly an Ohio State backer from reading his bio. The other guy I've never heard of. In any event, they have not one, but two Midwest analysts.
Kurelic is new to rivals this year, think he was on ESPN/Bucknuts.com before.
ReplyDeleteSo after reading quickly over the Rivals100, it's evident that the bias of the Midwest Analysts is all over the list. Of the recruits listed from the Midwest, there are 4 players from the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri, and Indiana in total (one each). And the Missouri recruit is basically from Illinois. All the rest are from Illinois and Ohio - big coincidence considering that the analysts are fans of schools from those states.
ReplyDeleteHold on.....you expect ME to believe that someone that is a OSU fan is not to be trusted??? Why would you EVER imply such a thing??
ReplyDeleteWow mike, 4 out of 100. Evident bias all over! The dozen or so midwest players who'll go to the NFL who're not on the list might disagree with you.
ReplyDeleteBenji,
ReplyDeleteWhat are the chances of landing Gunner Kiel? Do we have a real chance and do you know when he will make his decision?
Gunner Kiel isn't too open about his recruitment, he doesn't speak to reporters that much. I think Michigan has a chance, but not a great one. It wouldn't surprise me if we made his top five, but I think we trail other schools right now, probably Notre Dame. If Michigan manages to get another visit (like an official one), then things could get really interesting. So basically, don't get your hopes up, but keep an eye out just in case.
ReplyDeleteHey Benji,on The Wolverine recruiting show they said it looks like Maty Mauk is going to ND. If so the we may sneak into Gunners top 3??
ReplyDeleteWe have an excellent chance of signing at least 6 of Tom Lemmings 100 with outside chances for at least 6 more recruits who're being secretive about their preferences. Only the coaches know who else they're pursuing the most, we may swing a big offensive lineman due to the coaches emphasis on the LOS. I'd be surprised if we landed more than 7 of Lemmings 100.
ReplyDeleteMichael, I think you're misinterpreting what I wrote. I was stating that because the analysts are from Illinois and Ohio (with one being an admitted Ohio State fan) that the recruits listed in the Top100 from the Midwest seem to mostly be focused in those two states. My overall point was that it seems like those analysts are underrating players previously thought to be high-rated players because of their own fan bias. I think you thought I meant something different entirely.
ReplyDeleteBenji, can you give me a timeline for who is announcing this week and when they are? Thanks, keep up the great work.
ReplyDelete- Ron Thompson on Wednesday (might not happen)
ReplyDelete- Matt Godin on Thursday (should be Michigan)
- Anthony Standifer is visiting campus on Thursday, and I think there's a good chance he could commit on the day.
- Terry Richardson might be announcing this week, although no date is officially set.
Funny that Wormly is thought to be #1 overall in Ohio,'and still
ReplyDeleteMisses this list.
I think that most of the reactions were very common, but there are some people that always like to point out the negative things of everything
