Mario Ojemudia close to decision?

Four star defensive lineman Mario Ojemudia (Farmington Hills, MI) sounds like he's made his college decision after tweeting "I think ill just make my life easy and get this over with".

Ojemudia started out as a Michigan State lean, but after visiting Michigan twice over the spring, the Wolverines have turned into the slight favorite. UM's chances are boosted further by having Mario's current teammate Devin Funchess already in the recruiting class.

However! He did just visit Michigan State for their spring game on Saturday, so there's a chance that MSU won him over with that trip. Either way, he'll be visiting Michigan on the weekend, and I think a decision will come shortly after that visit, or hopefully during it!

The recent MSU visit puts a little doubt in my mind, but I'm still fairly confident about this one. Michigan really showed him the love on his visits, and the way he speaks about the coaching staff showed genuine interest. With Thompson and Godin not announcing until midway through next week, I think there's a good chance Mario could be our next commitment.

  1. im looking on MSU message boards and they claim they are getting Burbidge, but that word is spreading he will commit Michigan. I hope its true! He would be a nice get

  3. MSU posters on the 247 website seem to think he is going to UM. One of their "sources" even went as far as saying someone in FHH program stated that because of Funchess and Greg Mattison he is going to UM. Hopefully it wrings true!

  4. I would say it is a good sign that he is coming to A2 before announcing

  5. Right now, Burbridge has serious academic issues, and he's going to have to work real hard to get qualified.

That's half the reason UM isn't recruiting him that much, the other half being that he grew up an MSU fan.

  6. Anybody see the preseason rankings by Mark Schlabach on ESPN? He has MSU at 10. He must not have seen the Alabama game from last year (or paid much attention to strength of schedule). I can't wait for them to get crushed by UM this year.

  7. Lol, that's very optimistic for MSU to be ranked 10. Whenever I'm bored I go watch the full game of them vs Alabama, it always cheers me up.

However! MSU does have a good senior quarterback this year, and the game is being played in East Lansing. If I were betting right now, I'd say MSU beats us this year, followed by years of Michigan dominance from 2012 onwards.

  8. Dont bash MSU yet,I think the Big 10 Champion will be between them and Nebraska.

  9. Come on benji them fighting words and can't believe you would that.

  10. @ Benji, whats your thoughts on Chris Wormley as a player? The guys over at GBMW(which I think the worst UM blog) don't think he is a very good player. Just wondering your thoughts on him.

  11. Ojemudia is a better get than Burbridge. I want guys who really want to be here. MSU has a senior qb and their "star" running back but they actually lose everybody. They lose BOTH starting tackles AND center and their defense lost their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th leading tacklers including almost every tackle for loss and turnover. Add on the tougher schedule this year and everyone gunning for them and they'll be struggling to break .500

  12. I know it's a little pessimistic to predict a Sparty win. But I did say if I was betting 'right now', and right now our offense isn't fully adjusted yet. Of course by the time the game is played, our offense could be clicking etc, and maybe I'll predict UM in my gameday choice. Long way to go!

Worm, I haven't seen what they said about Wormley, but I regard him as one of the top defensive ends in the nation, let alone the Midwest. Bucknuts.com recently ranked him as the top player in Ohio, so that should ease any doubts over his ability.
He's one of the more college ready DE's that we've seen over the last few years, and I expect him to contribute pretty early if he signs with Michigan.

  13. if thompson, godin, and possibly mario commit, thats 11 commits with 11 more months to go til the signing day. o boy!

  14. Even in this small class I don't see how we don't land at least 8 of the ESPN 150. 10 is what I'm expecting, but the coaches have gone from success to success and with their track record of recruiting in the past we could land as many as 12 top 150's with fewer than 22 recruits. With these spots filling up I see them knuckling down on individuals for the last few positions and closing strong.

  15. Also keep in mind that the rankings are going to change by seasons end. Some of this kids my move up and some will most certainly fall. When players commit this early most will take a hit in the final rankings,so don't let the final rankings make you any less excited about these kids.

  16. 10 ESPN 150 players?!! That's a pretty big ask right there. Only three teams got 10 last year, so thats going to be really tough for Michigan. We might get 10 watch listers, but its unlikely all of those would make the top 150.

  18. Chris Wormley, Sheldon Day, Jordan Diamond, James Ross, RJS, and Terry Richardson would make 6 players likely to be in the top 150 who will most likely send the LOI to Michigan come signing day. Bolden, Omejudia, and Thompson have an outside chance at making the list while JJ Denman, Zeke Pike, Zach Banner, Jordan Simmons, Dan O'Brien, Brionte Dunn and Greg Garmon are guys who are likely locks to make the cut but are are not as likely to commit to Michigan. This would mean we will land 6-16 top 100 players. My best guess would be 8 with us keeping the 6 I mentioned and Thompson sneaking into the top 150 and us landing one of the guys we have an outside chance with (likely Denman Banner or Garmon in my opinion). Also if we are going to get one safety in this class what do you think about going hard for Bam Bradley?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Think Bam Bradley has academic issues...

    ReplyDelete
  20. I havent heard much on Denman or Benner lately, how are we looking for them and i still cant find Gunner Kiel's visit reaction, does that mean it didn't go well?

    ReplyDelete
  21. kiel keeps his recruiting private, so don't expect to here much from him. at least that's the impression i get from him.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Michigan is in the top five for J.J Denman, he really liked his Michigan visit. He'll be visiting again, probably as an official visit.

As for Gunner Kiel, M is right, he's not that involved with the recruiting media. I'm sure the visit went well, but Michigan probably still trails a couple of other schools.

  23. I think you can sign us up for 6-7 right now. When the roster starts filling up, though, and there are only 6-7 spots left and the top players are still holding out, that's where I expect Hoke/Mattison/Hecklinski to turn it on. Some schools have recruiting prowess, others have coaching cred, others have tradition. When you put all three together I think kids and parents will feel much better about Michigan than, say USC, Auburn, or that school in ohio. Mattison had a top 10 class waiting for him at Florida, his first full classes went #1 and #2, now they're back to roughly top 10 again. Fingers crossed!

  24. Benji, I don't get it. How can you be so far away from AA, yet have the latest news and notes regarding recruiting news? I look forward to checking your site every morning for a piece of good news. You do a great job on here, thanks!

  25. Check out Benji making it into Adam Rittenberg's Big Ten Mailbag on ESPN, 5th one down:

Benji, if that wasn't you then I just found you another UofM fan in London (and happens to be named Ben too!)

    ReplyDelete
  26. how does bam bradley have academic issues but earn offers from stanford, vanderbilt, and northwestern (according to rivals)?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lol that was actually me on Rittenberg's mailbag, I thought it was about time he started talking about recruiting. The rest of his offseason stuff bores me.

    ReplyDelete
  28. He probably has offers because hes a good football player. Right now Aaron Burbridge isn't on track to qualify, and yet he's got a Michigan offer.

Coaches will still offer guys like this, and then just hope they make the grade come signing day.

    ReplyDelete
  29. This will be the best class in a while imo. If your wondering why I say this it's cause of the social networking site know as Facebook. Almost all of the recruits are adding eachother as friends and talking positively about Michigan. It's great to see cause it means they will have a chemistry before they get on campus that won't hurt their chances for success once they step on the field

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, the 2009 class was a special one on paper, but they didn't stay together. A lot of the four star guys transferred. Hopefully this class will be different.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hey Benji, any thoughts on Roderick Chungong DE out of Good Counsel. Kid looks like a beast on film. Wondering why we haven't offered...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Benji - can you tell me when any site (rivals,Scout,Espn) announces 2012 early team recruiting rankings? I am very interested to see where we stand nationally according to these sites.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The first rivals 100 is finally about to come out here very soon.

    ReplyDelete
  34. ESPN's player and team rankings come out in June I think. Not so sure about rivals. If you go by scout.com's rankings, I'd say Michigan is roughly 7th or 8th in the team rankings.

As for Roderick Chungong, Michigan is in on a lot of defensive ends, especially in Ohio. Chungong is only a three star on scout.com, and the coaching staff probably feels they can land better talent.

  35. Benji do you think we will still have two kickers on scholarship at the end of this upcoming season. Seems like a waste if the freshman can kick

    ReplyDelete
  36. OOh yea Benji why the hatred for man u

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well Richard I don't think Michigan will pull Brandon Gibbons scholarship just because he's not that good of a kicker. I don't think we roll like that. Besides if Matt Wile gets injured, and Gibbons improves, he could prove his value this fall...I hope.

Man U as in Manchester United?
I don't dislike them that much, in fact I hope they win the Premier league because I really hate Chelsea. But I do like Barcelona, so I hope Messi and Co beat Man Utd in the final.

  38. Richard - did you really just drop a soccer question? take it somewhere else buddy. this is a blue board.

  39. So who made you board monitor ? What you woke up today, put your superman red cape on & decided to save the world there buddy ?

  40. hmm if I am not correct, feel free to correct me, but I think that by the time you wrote this post, Mario Ojemudia had already decided, at least what I read on a Hostpph.com sport blog
