Harbaugh to NFL?

It appears ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter has done a U-turn, and is now reporting that Jim Harbaugh will most likely be coaching in the NFL next year. Schefter had reported Harbaugh to Michigan was virtually a done deal last week.

Harbaugh is the overwhelming fans favorite to take over at Michigan, but if he's not available, who will Dave Brandon turn to? I don't think Brady Hoke is ready just yet, and I'm not sure if Les Miles even wants to leave LSU, so is Rodriguez going to get lucky and land a 4th year???

EDIT: I'll try to make my position clearer....

1st choice: Jim Harbaugh

2nd choice: Les Miles/any other high caliber coach (Meyer? Gruden? etc)

3rd choice: Rich Rod

4th choice: Brady Hoke

  1. The hell with RRodriguez. He deserves no 4th year. 2 reason JH will go to Nfl. His wife may not want to leave the bay area, 2nd 49er's throw so much $$ at him. He is not going to Denver. DB needs to lay the hammer on RR and move on, whomever we get in I will support.

First step is to get RR out of Ann Arbor. Period.

  2. JH also has three kids in the bay area from a previous marriage. If he wants to stay close to them he ain't comin' to AA!

Hiring a questionable commodity like Hoke would damage Brandon's credibility very quickly...

  3. Adam Shefter is a joke to the profession. He just checks his twitter account and goes on national television and makes guesses like a weatherman. We CANNOT hire Brady Hoke, that would be a downgrade. RR is a good coach, but its obviously not the right fit. Nothing has gone smoothly from day 1. If we don't get Harbaugh, we better steal a bigger name than Brady Hoke or kiss any good recruiting goodbye (although our recruiting hasn't been great anyways, hard to win games when your teams size looks like a freshman highschool team going against soon to be NFL players)

  4. If RR is fired, I would want Les Miles. His LSU teams have always had great defenses, including this year (#5 in the nation). Also, he uses both pro and spread formation sets which may keep D-Rob from hastily transferring. I know the mad hatter is crazy, but he is a proven winner in the toughest conference in the nation.

If Miles is not available, I am for keeping RR for a 4th year. Lets see what he can do with Sophomores and Jrs in his system rather than Freshman and Sophomores. When all of the teams you play are full of Jrs, Srs, and 5th year Srs and your team is mostly Freshman and Sophomores, it's like a JV high school team going against a Varsity high school team. But if RR stays, we need to ditch our DC and maybe change the defensive scheme to a 4 front, even if it is like TCU's 4-2-5 speed which did a good job against Wisconsin's power. If we are mediocre for one more year and Brady Hoke has another impressive year and finds a way to beat Boise St., then UM can fire RR next year and hire Hoke. In my estimation, he will have proven himself a winner. Remember it took him 5 years to get Ball St. to have a .500 team and then I believe his 6th year is when they went 12-1. Of course Michigan is Hoke's dream job.

In the end U of M cannot just settle for anybody if they are going to make a change. My fear is that Wolverine football becomes like N.D. over the past 15 years which has quite mediocre for that time span because of having 4 different football coaches and philosophies. Part of which was due to an impatient alumni and fanbase that was ready to hire whoever was the hottest coach available......

  5. No-one seems that keen on Brady Hoke, personally I would rather keep Rodriguez and hope they learn to play defense with new coaches.
However the optimal choice is clearly Harbaugh, and DB really should just be chucking money at him right now. Schefter is a Michigan alum, so he might have good sources on this, we'll wait and see.

  6. COme on...2009 represented the most points given up by a UM Defense ever along with yardage, 2010 war the worst ever. Michigan is about a big o-Line, bruising football. This moron gives the # 1 jersey to a Defensive Player, he is not the right fit for Michigan. Anyone in support of giving this fool a 4th year or a chance is out of his mind. If DB keeps him on board, he deserves to be fired also. We can go back & forth on this, the bottom line is he is gonna get fired,..if Saturday's game was not a indication as to how bad things are going, WHAT ELSE ARE WE ASKING FOR ?....

  7. I agree with Ben. Harbaugh or bust. Why keep shuffling head coaches

  8. I want better recruiting. If you take out Ohio State, the Big Ten has 0 top 25 recruits. Thats sad. Michigan is losing to MSU in recruiting the state of Michigan, that is also not acceptable

  9. What about Gruden??

I bet he would have some recruiting power.

  10. Jordan, Michigan currently has 3 of the top 5 in-state recruits committed (Hayes, Beyer, Fisher) and another (Taylor) likey commit in the top 10. That's four of the top 10.

MSU only has two (Thomas, Knox)... How are we losing to them?

  11. @Jordan: Actually, UM is doing well with in state recruits this year with Beyer, Hollowell, Hayes and Morgan. Lawrence Thomas is the best recruit from Michigan MSU beat us to

  12. Note: Lawrence Thomas the top state recruit IMO is commited to MS WHo. Bottomline, RR needs to go. If DB does not secure JH I have a feeling there is a dark horse amongst the candidates. 3 year hiatus is enough... GET RID OF RR.....

  13. What are we gonna do? I completely freaking out here. Michigan has botched entirely too many decisions recently and needs to hit a home run. If Jim Harbaugh goes to the NFL, the options are extremely limited. Les Miles loves Baton Rouge and doesn't want to uproot his family to come back to Ann Arbor. Brady Hoke is still an unproven entity. Urban Meyer wouldn't step down from Florida to spend time with his family to turn around and come coach at Michigan. John Gruden is an Ohio native and has a pretty deep rooted hatred for Michigan. No way he goes to AA. Who else does that leave for Michigan to choose from? They would have to go steal a coach from another high profile team, and with Michigans recent problems, no coach is going to want to leave a high profile team to come to Michigan. What are we gonna do? This sucks as a lifelong Michigan fan.

  14. I DON'T WANT LES MILES...HE IS A SCUMBAG!! He takes away scholarships from players to bring in better ones...That is pathetic and it works in the SEC but the Big10 is better than that.

  15. I guess we all shall see tomorrow. If this doesn't work out, DB will be blamed for decades for the way he handled this. Has anyone mentioned Dave Wanstedt for D-coordinator? Or steal TCU's D-coordinator. They run a similiar speed defense but with 4 down linemen.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Here is the deal. If we can't get JH, then we have to stay with RR. On top of that give him a contract extension to show the recruit that he is sticking around. In that contract there has to be a low buyout price. With RR as our coach we need to adopt a four man front defense. That will allow us to recruit the high end lineman we need. I spent all weekend Jacksonville trying to explain how only JH is the only option for replacing RR. Anyone else will take us farther of track than we already are. Go Blue!!!!

  17. are you kidding me with this last post?...What part of the Saturday debacle did you not see?... The last page in the RR experiment was written on Saturday,..time to get him out of AA.

NO one is going to show him the red carpet any further. The RR experiment did not work out, time for change,...by Friday order will be restored.

  18. Restored if we don't get JH. How the hell is that going to happen. Is DB going to pull a rabbit out of his a$$.

  19. RR haters: Have you forgot Applachian State game?!?! And the Mississippi State( who is a vary good team) is worse? come on now did you really think the defense got that much better in 30 days? We are going to get better on defense next year if its in a 3-3-5 or a 4-3 because 1. that athletes will be better and older. Harbaugh majority of the time plays a 3-4 defense so wont be to much of a change. A new defense of coordinator and better athletes and we will be undefeated going into the Nebraska and possibly OSU game next year.

  20. "Woodosn#2" how can anyone take you seriously when you spell WOODSON wrong, the 3-3-5 might work in the NFL because of the linebackers speed and the secondary in the nfl can actually form tackle, but its not going to work with michigans defense when it takes all 11 players to tackle someone like this year.......lol

    ReplyDelete
  21. Restored as in getting RR out of AA. Change of the helm does not mean we are out of the clear.

Rodriguez brought probation to the program, the worst 3 seasons imaginable, and you still want to give him a pass for what happened 1-11-2011...

    Please.

    ReplyDelete
  22. first of all... WOODSON#2 was taken so I switched it up a little bit... figured most adults would have understood it, guess not and Harbaugh is running a 3-4 tonight against VT if ya didnt know. But I agree I am a fan of the 4-3 defense and would like to see UM return to it with a few of these NFL coaches getting fired as possibly choices. But your extactly right when you say " it takes all 11 players to tackle someone like this year" It's not RR fault the players cant tackle... Look at the athletes he has coming in on defense and tell me there wont be improvment. He can recruit and in the near future will have Michigan playing in a National Championship again

  24. Harbaugh leaves in 3-4 years as HC of Michigan for an NFL job... personally I do not want to look for a HC all over again in couple years
