Danny Hope must be livid right now. He didn't like RR for stealing Roy Roundtree at the last minute, so I guess he won't like Brady Hoke for taking Russell Bellomy away from the Boilermakers only a week before signing day.
Bellomy was a visitor on campus Mon-Tues, and rumors before the visit were saying he was pretty high on Michigan after they starting showing interest. Bellomy is a consensus three star QB, but listed as a dual threat on rivals. I think we all expected to land a pocket passer, so this is somewhat surprising.
Personally I'm just happy to have a QB in the class, as things would have been shaky next year with only Denard and Devin. More on this later.
This won't be the only commit tonight...
Crazy!
ReplyDeleteBenji, I know you were worried about recruiting when we had the coaching change. I know its not over yet, but are you sleeping at night now?
Maybe this puts to rest the idea that Borges doesn't really intend to shift the offensive philosophy away from a traditional pocket guy (who can't run). It seems his intent to implement an offense that utilizes a QB's running ability is genuine.

ReplyDeleteHey Benji have you heard any additional news on whether or not Antonio Poole will be committing to Michigan tonight or The U?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I see of him he is a Pocket QB thats mobile.. Exactly what we need
ReplyDeletePoole is going blue. That is the word on a lot of blogs. Now the issue is we are apparently going to get over 20 commits. Rawls, Bryant, Willingham, Clark, still going after Cooper which is a long shot, talking to Nowicki commit to Penn State.
ReplyDelete@ Brian Ferry he should be annoning in the next 30 min
ReplyDeleteannouncing
ReplyDeleteThis is a huge get for depth purposes. Now that QB, DB, LB seem to be filled we need to get OL, TE, and hopefully a DT.
ReplyDeleteWishlist:
1. Fisher
2. Bryant
3. Cooper
4. Barnett
5. Moreland
Poole doesn't have a committable offer from Miami, so its michigan, pitt or someone else..
ReplyDeleteDon't get hung up on the 20 number. The coaches aren't and they know more about who is coming and going and where scholarships are going to be allocated than we do. Worry about SEC-style over-signing if the class reaches around 30.
ReplyDeleteBellomy's Rival page says he scored a 1620 on his SATS...which means he is very smart. I was a Forcier fan, but I am glad we will be getting recruits with a higher chance of classroom acumen.
ReplyDeleteRivals lists him with a 4.11 GPA
ReplyDeleteIt's about to be Poole time !
ReplyDeleteso...what happened that Michigan dropped Raven? or was it vice versa?
ReplyDeleteCountess has re-affirmed his commitment to Michigan tonight. This is very good news.
ReplyDeleteSince Countess is for sure going blue, the coaching staff might want to free up the remaining scholarships for different positions.
Also, Michigan will probably look at signing around 23 players this year.
Just watched a youtube video of this kid. Reminds me alot of Tate. Throws a nice ball and move around well in the pocket. Has the ability to extend plays and still keeps his eyes down field. Even run a couple read options in the video. I think that this is a very good pick up for the wolverines.
ReplyDeleteGo Brady Go.
ReplyDeleteBellomy is a poor man's version of Devin Gardner, which isn't a knock on Bellomy given that Gardner was arguably the #1 QB nationally. The preconception that Hoke/Borges would strictly pursue pocket passers is false. Unfortunately, certain UM fans want to perpetuate that preconception and will not recognize Bellomy as a dual-threat QB. They argue Bellomy is a part of a "theme" in Hoke's QB recruiting. Unfortunately, the more this "theme" is discussed, the more it becomes apparent that it's really a racial argument rather than a skills/talent argument.
